Zi Char style order, simple staple dishes still just as flavourful! Perfect for a meal after a long day's work and a wonderful place to visit for a late night supper treat!
This is my second time here and I decided to try their porridge this time. As it was already late and i didn't have much of an appetite, porridge seemed like a great choice! And it definitely did not disappoint.
I went with a friend and she chose to order classic dishes like the sweet and sour pork, shrimp paste fried wings and i had to order the brinjal with minced meat and salted fish for her to try 😋
Prawn paste chicken was deliciously fragrant, crispy bits on the exterior with a tender interior just how i love it.
Their sweet and sour pork is classic and the brinjal is just as good as i remember.
Can't forget their mega homemade Ice Lemon Tea that i absolutely hyped up the first time! Big shoutout it it again 😁

Wholesome hearty soup to warm the heart! I visited this place with a friend on a rainy day and their chicken soup was absolutely just what we needed!
Fragrant, flavourful and just delicious 😋

I highly suggest trying their black chicken soup if you like a nuttier and rich taste to your broth as the lotus root tends to provide that thickness to it.

But if you're into a lighter and still extremely flavourful broth, i highly recommend the white chicken soup with cordyceps 😋 they are both very delicious and perfect for a hearty soupy meal ❤️

We may have went a little overboard and tried all their side dishes but it was SOOO worth it!!

My favourites are definitely the tofu and Ngoh Hiang and an absolute MUST to order!!

The tofu has a crispy exterior, melt-in-your-mouth interior and in the perfect bite-size to enjoy a full bite! It's also not just ur typical tofu as it has some vege to amp up the flavours and add a little bit of their sauce on the side? That additional bit of tang to help you never get sick of it 🤤

The Ngoh Hiang is wrapped FULL to the brim and perfectly fried. It has a crispy exterior with a soulful interior, dip it in the sweet sauce and BOOM burst of flavour 😋

Special mention to the fried egg with cai poh too! Bit of salty + bit of sweet and the nice chewy texture is just 👌 They were also extremely generous with the cai poh servings to make sure you get an even taste of everything.

We ordered so much we couldn't finish but they helped us pack everything nicely so we could enjoy it all after as well 😋 (Even my mum loved it!) Will definitely come back again for more next time!

It's definitely not as convenient when it's raining but if you have a car or don't mind travelling for good food, I 100% recommend trying their food yourselves!

Also, loved their homemade drinks and complimentary ice cream after the meal. Was so extremely satisfied 😋👌

Came by Seng House on a Monday night and really enjoyed the experience. The place has a nice, relaxed vibe—perfect for winding down after work.

We had the double bacon smash burger, Hainanese pork chop, warm salad and churros. Everything was solid—the kind of comfort food you'd come back for. Loved that the pork chop still kept that old-school feel, and the churros were a fun way to end the meal.

Would definitely drop by again if I’m around the area

On top of the comfortable and inviting vibes here, the cafe offers an innovative menu. Every dish that we ordered was well-executed. My special favourite was the Crispy Squid Tentacles with homemade honey lime mayonnaise. The devilishly hot Seng’s family chili sauce was also a star on its own.

Vintage and nostalgic taste with a twist. Chicken rice in a claypot and pandan latte. Had a satisfactory meal! Will be back again to try other local delights.

The food at Tan Ser Seng was truly delicious! We ordered the black chicken herbal soup and the double-boiled turtle soup—both were rich, flavourful, and comforting. The black chicken soup came packed with ingredients, especially tender chicken pieces. A nice touch was that the turtle soup came with a one-time free soup top-up, which we appreciated.

We also tried the jade tofu and prawn rolls, and both impressed us. The tofu was soft inside with a crispy exterior, while the prawn rolls were generously filled, with satisfying bites of chestnut adding great texture.

Everything paired perfectly with the fragrant yam rice. To top it off, we were pleasantly surprised with a range of free ice cream at the end of the meal!

Highly recommend this spot for soup lovers looking for a hearty, satisfying meal. Just a heads-up—the place can get quite warm, so bring a fan or dress light!

I enjoyed an unforgettable lunch at Tan Ser Seng Herbs Restaurant, savoring their signature Turtle Soup and Ginseng Black Chicken Soup. Both broths were rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced, highlighting the natural sweetness of the meats. The turtle meat was especially tender with a prized gelatinous texture, while the black chicken was equally flavorful.
I also highly recommend their side dishes and I have ordered the Jade Tofu and Homemade Prawn Roll which was served piping hot with fresh ingredients and outstanding textures. A complimentary ice cream for dine-in customers was a thoughtful bonus and the refreshing drinks helped beat the afternoon heat.
Service was warm, knowledgeable, and attentive which enhancing the overall experience. If you're looking for traditional, soul-warming herbal soups prepared with care and authenticity, this is the place to visit.
Tips:
• Parking is free after 5 PM and on Sundays.
• Arrive early to avoid queues during peak hours.
• You can also request a one-time soup refill when you order the Turtle Soup!

A well-balanced bowl packed with rich, slightly herbal broth that isn’t too heavy. The tender, juicy chicken slices soak up the flavours beautifully while the chicken balls added a nice bite for variety. The rice noodles had a perfect springy texture and soaked up all the flavourful broth beautifully. The addition of fresh kang kong gave a light crunch and an earthy freshness that helped balance out the richness. A sprinkle of chilli flakes gives it a nice little extra punch 》$8.50

We kicked things off with a crisp, refreshing salad — light but still satisfying with fresh greens and a zesty vinaigrette. It was a perfect palate cleanser before diving into the heartier stuff.

Next up, the Hainanese Porkchop was an absolute standout. A juicy, lightly breaded porkchop, seasoned just right, paired with fragrant rice and that signature garlicky-chili dipping sauce. It had all the comfort of the classic Hainanese chicken, but with a delicious porky twist that made every bite feel like a celebration.

Then came the Double Bacon Smash Burger. Wow. This thing is a savory, smoky masterpiece. Two juicy, crispy-edged patties, melted cheese, and crispy bacon stacked high — it was indulgence at its finest. Each bite was rich and perfectly balanced with just enough grease to make you feel like you’re treating yourself (without any regrets).

And to wrap it all up, the Churros were the perfect sweet finish. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and rolled in cinnamon sugar, they hit all the right notes. If there was a dipping sauce involved, it was just the cherry on top, making it a totally addictive experience.

Overall, this meal was a perfect blend of light, savory, and sweet. A true flavor-packed adventure from start to finish. Would happily dive into round two!

okay you picture this - it’s raining very heavily and you’re slurping on some hot herbal soup!! so yummy!!

that’s me that day when i visited Tan Ser Seng Herbs - honestly the soup was so so thick && the chicken really slipped right off as i pulled on the bone :”

tried their jade tofu and veggies as well and they all didn’t disappoint at all!! gon bring my parents here :D

Visited Gu Zao Ren for dinner and was really impressed! There is a diverse selection of zi char dishes to choose from. We ordered cereal chicken, chai poh omelette, hot plate bean curd and cockles. The cockles are definitely a must order, they are fresh and best eaten with the house chilli.

The other dishes were delicious and paired perfectly with the Taiwanese porridge. Differing from the usual Teochew porridge, it is thicker and has chunks of sweet potato in it. This place is worth visiting if you’re craving for a hearty meal!

Don’t be fooled by the simple presentation—Gu Zao Ren Taiwan Porridge delivers comforting, home-style flavours. The cai po omelette was packed with savoury crunch, and the stir-fried dried shrimp gui miao was a flavourful, crunchy standout. The free-flow rice and porridge were a nice touch. Warm service and cosy vibes round off a satisfying meal.
