[QUEENSTOWN, SINGAPORE] If you are looking for coffee just after a great feast at Alexandra Village Hawker Centre, you now know where to go! @rookies.coffee is a humble coffee shop nestled within the bustling neighbourhood and they serve up great quality coffee 😍

I got their Iced Black ($6) which was very fruity, so much so that I thought I was drinking fruit juice! It was very smooth as well and totally refreshing!

There aren't many seats around, so do take note if you are coming with a big group. I do love the cute stickers and posters around the place which added to the chill vibe 😍 (P.S.... they have other interesting coffee drinks as well which I wanna try out next time!)

Went for the teatime set, $58 net total for 3people

Grew up eating the soup vermicelli version and haven’t had this in probably almost a decade? But my tastebuds have morphed and I love my fishball noodles with Mee pok, dry, spicy, and super vinegary. And Xin Lu gives me just that. The sauciness of the noodles is impeccable, but what was equally impressive was the fresh and bouncy fishballs.

Can't rmb what I loved about it but this is quite a textbook blue, and quite blue it was (if you've never had blue you won't be able to accept)

4 year Gouda: Huge crystals, almost sandgrain-sized. It's a little bit diff from normal Gouda but again didn't rlly change my mind.

Surfin blu: the ale washing gives the exterior crazy complexity, each bite was a different note. Can clearly taste the stitching of the blue and the buffalo mozz, some parts are much stronger than others.

Abe rot: not much flavour, the texture is actl not bad but way too smelly, it's really really bad

A bit of crystals, flavour was good and for this type of cheese it's pretty good. But if you don't like this kind of dry semihard cheese like me it's not gg to change your mind.

Chili la bouse: The chili really works incredibly well w the slightly funky gooey cheese

Belper knolle jung: super soft, crumbly and a tad sour well complemented by the spice crust outside, for a tad of heat

Aarewasser: I think this is as good as this type of cheese gets. Very smooth and soft and with stickiness at the back of the throat. Flavour was pleasant too

We got 2 mains (fish & chips and red wine braised beef) + an iced latte.

- Fish & chips was extremely delish, batter beyond perfection and fish well cooked. It had a delicate taste to it as the fish they use is ‘hake fish’. It’s a 9/10!

- Red wine braised beef was excellent but just slightly salty to my tasting. The sauce was superb and dances well with every ingredient in the bowl.

- The coffee taste of the latte was strong and good too!

As we were too full after the meal, we got each of their doughnuts, a brownie and their signature pistachio burnt basque cheese
cake. Every pastry had their flavours bursting off the roof.

10/10 will be back and highly recommended to give it a visit!

💸 :$12.50 (supposed to b $13 😅😅...)
we ordered 2 drinks + 1 tea cake + 1 scone, and the total was supp to be $13 but he heard banana cake instead of scone but ended up just giving us the cake for free 😭 hence everything in the picture. thank u for ur generosity 🙏

DRINKS 🍵 ($6.50/$7)
comments... rly nice latte art 😭
1) Matcha latte: 8.5/10 (mother's review)
she liked the latte in general but i thought it was a lil bitter 🙏 not thick but i thought the balance between milk and matcha was good bc its more matcha-y

2) Chocolate 🍫: 8/10
same ratio as matcha latte, not thick but same its ur preference. i thought it was p nice and i could finish the whole cup

DESSERT 🍰 ($5,$5.50,$6)
honestly i rly liked all THEYRE P GOOD.. all arent dry & v fragrant
1) Banana cake: 7/10
cant taste banana at all hence the rating... this doesnt taste like usual banana cake but it was q fragrant also

2) Tea cake: 9/10
First i think it depends on ur preference bc my mum said theres a weird taste to it BUT i thought it was nice 😭😭 tastes familiar IDK WHAT but they said its a light tea flavoured cake, its like weird but fragrant...i like it and also i think the portion is so big LOLL its q worth la

3) Scone: 10/10
big portion too 👍 wasnt dry nor hard (ive tried so many like this before...) & came w butter + strawbb jam. the scone itself is q moist and u can just eat it by itself without the jam coz theres alr flavour & raisin. maybe ive just never eaten good scones in my life 💀

ok thats it! i wld return to get the pastries agn more often if there was the 1 for 1 but honestly may come back for the scone even without promo LOL. drinks wldnt get if there isnt 1 for 1 just bc theres nothing unique abt it!!

The hazelnuts were meh and quite surprisingly the most expensive thing, so I guess you can ask for a change or just ask to do without it.

The last 2 items were my add-ons after I was sufficiently impressed, so generally the bill should be about 30+gst which is very reasonable for something of this standard, in fact it's a steal.

Apart from the annoying location, there's really no better place if you want a platter. Most atas restaurants serve 3 types which is really not enough for cheese lovers, plus how much can you eat after the meal. If you want to fix something like this yourself, with a 150g minimum of purchase per cheese it's gonna cost upwards of 200 bucks lol
