Came here for weekday lunch and it's my second time having omakase. Food was definitely great & I really loved their chawanmushi & noodle dish. Chefs were also super attentive towards my preferences throughout the whole dining time & are very friendly as well. Service staff was great and for the price $68 is really worth. This place is really underrated and would come back again with family.
Its my first sashimi experience and i'm blown away by how food the uni sushi can taste. The environment was private and comfortable. The quality of the sushi and sashimi is undeniably amazing. Super good experience, will be back.
Came on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch and was welcomed by friendly staff. Chef Choon carefully explained each dish and everything was so delicious. My favourite is definately the uni handroll. It was sweet, creamy and just amazing with the rice. Would 100% recommend people to head over and try. Their prices are very reasonable as well!
Highly recommend this newly opened sushi restaurant. Ordered the omakase lunch course and my partner and I were really impressed. The chef was very friendly and made the experience cozy and personal.
Reasonably priced menu, and the courses were just right to feel satisfied. Fish was fresh, and the chef explained that they were seasonal selections. Especially loved the chawamushi and fatty tuna!
Will be back to try the dinner menu
First visit to Sushi Muni, the restaurant had a very authentic and atas vibe.
Chef David was our Omakase chef of the day. He was very friendly and introduced each dishes to us passionately.
The food was well prepared, with fresh and well seasoned ingredients. Chef David is also very experienced in preparing the sushi with the right amount of rice and wasabi.
The sushi rice was brown, seasoned with vinegar, which tasted surprisingly good.
Slow-cooked Scallop was wonderful too, bursting with flavours from the well executed seasoning.
My favourite were the fatty tunas dishes, super smooth and buttery.
Overall great experience, would totally recommend those who have yet to experience Omakase. Just sit back, relax and let the Chefs do their magic!
The omakase setting was made comfortable with Chef David's great service. The sushi was deliciously fresh with an interesting mix of vinegars used in the sushi rice. Would definitely recommend for any sushi lovers!
Really delectable experience at Sushi Muni! We had a the lunch set with salad, chawanmushi, soumen, 7-course sushi, tamagoyaki and dessert. Thanks to David for making the experience super enjoyable, he patiently explained each dish to us and ensured that we ended in time as I needed to rush off!
We started with a light, tangy salad with fried lotus. Then we were served chawanmushi steamed with bonito innards (otherwise known as skipjack tuna). It was very silky and had hints of miso and yuzu in it. At the bottom there's shiratama dango which made for a pleasant surprise.
Then, we had the chilled kuzu somen noodles, which was one of my favourites. Very chewy and refreshing as it was paired with grated radish.
Afterwards, we had several sushi pairings:
- Spanish mackerel with seaweed soya sauce (milder taste to start)
- Maguro (fresh and citrusy)
- Shima aji (stripejack that was paired with yuzu instead of wasabi, flavours started to be stronger here)
- Ootoro (my favourite - so buttery and soft)
- Ika (chewy in nature to balance out the softness of the fish)
- Uni (another one that rivals my favorite, buttery, soft, and melts in my mouth)
- Hotate (slow cooked scallop that was mildly sweet and not at all hard)
- Ootoro maki roll with sesame seed and radish (made with the same fatty ootoro)
We then had tamagoyaki made in the form of a custard cake style, steamed with yam, dashi, fish paste and prawn - so unique and balanced between salty and sweet.
Lastly we ended with white miso broth and mizu yokan, a water jelly dessert made with Hokkaido red bean paste.
A hidden gem with an incredible dining experience. A big shoutout to Chef David who was warm and attentive throughout the meal. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, and the sashimi was exceptionally fresh.
Sushi selection was outstanding—highlights included fatty tuna, slow-cooked scallop and the maki with tuna and uni was absolutely divine.
A must-visit for anyone who appreciates quality sushi and warm hospitality!
my friend and i ordered the lunch sushi course worth $68, which included salad, chawanmushi, kuzu somen, 7 courses of sushi, sushi roll, tamagoyaki and a dessert. the service was immaculate and the staff were extremely attentive and friendly. david, our omakase chef patiently explained to us each dish before we got to taste them, and was very knowledgeable! so not only did i get to taste each dish, i also got to learn more about the ingredients used, and the way of preparation, and i got to witness each sushi being prepared fresh, and the techniques used to carefully craft every piece of sushi.
1) salad
the crunchy salad leaves and crispy lotus roots complemented each other really well in terms of texture and sesame dressing gave it the flavor burst that it needed. this was extremely refreshing and appetizing!
2) chawanmushi
our chef explained that the egg was steamed with bonito and it's innards, making this extremely flavourful and umami. the egg was silky in texture, and the chawanmushi was carefully crafted with the first layer predominantly miso-flavoured, and the yuzu flavour kicks in later. at the bottom of the chawanmushi, there was a glutinous rice ball and the bonito innards. i found this extremely flavourful, but towards the end, i found it slightly too salty! overall, it was still great!
3) kuzu somen
the somen was described to have been cooked in a particular method, intended to make the noodles chewy. flavourful, radish, arro(?) thick women sauce coated my noodles fully, giving it the full flavor
4) 7 sushi course
• spanish mackerel with seaweed soy sauce -
very mild in flavour, fresh and the soy sauce and wasabi added an overall flavour kick.
• marinated lean tuna -
beautiful and bright red in colour and it tasted fresh with citrusy notes.
• shima aji
this fish, famous from the town of aji in japan, made its way over for us to experience right in singapore! this tasted slightly spicy, with yuzu notes and the fish on its own was a little salty and chewy in texture.
• fatty tuna sushi (ootoro)
this was one of my favorites from the course! as the name suggests, fatty tuna had more fat content than lean protein, which completely changed the texture of it compared to the marinated lean tuna. this immediately started melting in my mouth, without me even having to chew it.
• cuttlefish (ika)
this sushi had notes of lime and was chewy in texture.
• seaweed with rice and uni
the mouthfeel of this sushi was absolutely mindblowing. this was my first time trying uni, and my spirit transcended and returned back for real. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL, and definitely another one of my favorites.
• slowcooked scallop
this sushi was sweet, and fresh, citrusy with the wasabi tang! the normal scallops you get are usually chewier in texture, which im not a big fan of, but this scallop was more melt-in-your-mouth
5) sushi roll
like i mentioned, i loved the fatty tuna sushi already, so another round of fatty tuna but as a maki roll was thrilling to me. this maki roll was made with chopped fatty tuna, picked radish and sesame seeds. they were extremely generous with the amount of fatty tuna, and it had a brilliant mouthfeel and texture to it. i absolutely enjoyed this.
6) white miso soup
perfect balance between salty and umami and absolutely warmed my soul. the spring onions added depth to the soup in terms of aroma!
7)castella-style tamagoyaki
the chef explained that this was made with prawn, yam, fish and eggs, but to my surprise it actually tasted sweet! the texture was also very cake-like, so my mind registered it was a dessert more than something made with prawns or fish!!
8) mizu yokai
for dessert, we had this red-bean flavoured jelly! it was smooth, melt in your mouth, and decorated with beautiful gold flake on top. this was perfectly sweet, and a wonderful way to wrap up the omakase experience.
overall, this was a flavour and texture fiesta for me, and i thoroughly enjoyed the omakase!
Good quality sushi for an affordable price! Chefs are friendly :)
The ingredients used are fresh and delicious! My favourite was the fatty tuna and somen as the flavour combinations are spectacular. I also enjoyed how the chef interact with diners like us. The ambient was cosy and relaxing too.
Had an awesome experience at Sushi Muni, ambience was simplistic and very japanese.
Food was exemplary and Chef David made us feel at home as he initiated conversations about the food and our experience. Definitely will be back for more!
