Tend to find myself in cuisine phrases (I.e., always craving the same cuisine) so back to Taiwanese food! Discovered this cosy spot in Funan (and didn’t know they have so many outlets!)
Lu rou fan ($5.80) - Hearty bowl that features leaner cuts of meat and thicker braising sauce atop white rice. Enjoyed that it was less oily/fatty although would have preferred for more sauce for better coating of the rice. Comes with a braised egg and added on preserved vegetables (+$0.60) which gave a nice tang balance.
Chicken mee sua ($5.80) - Slurp-worthy and comforting bowl with quite a generous portion of shredded chicken.
Garlic chili mushroom ($3.80) - Enjoyed the array of mushrooms marinated in a vinegar-chili sauce similar to that of spicy chili dumplings.
P.S a google review gets you a free drink (honey lemon or lime calamansi) which likely explains the >1k positive reviews they have! Glad that it lived up to the expectations regardless ☺️
I consider this chain's lu rou fan the most value-for-money vis-a-vis authenticity.
Very sweet. It's basically a honey drink plus one slice of lemon.
This was freshly fried this time. We also realised they cut the cutlet before frying, unlike some places that do the reverse. It meant crispier but drier.
Shiok. Not the crispy and juicy type, but sloppy and heavily seasoned. Also quite a big cut.
One of my reliable spots for this dish. But it reminded me why I usually skip the oysters. So briny!
