Tend to find myself in cuisine phrases (I.e., always craving the same cuisine) so back to Taiwanese food! Discovered this cosy spot in Funan (and didn’t know they have so many outlets!)

Lu rou fan ($5.80) - Hearty bowl that features leaner cuts of meat and thicker braising sauce atop white rice. Enjoyed that it was less oily/fatty although would have preferred for more sauce for better coating of the rice. Comes with a braised egg and added on preserved vegetables (+$0.60) which gave a nice tang balance.

Chicken mee sua ($5.80) - Slurp-worthy and comforting bowl with quite a generous portion of shredded chicken.

Garlic chili mushroom ($3.80) - Enjoyed the array of mushrooms marinated in a vinegar-chili sauce similar to that of spicy chili dumplings.

P.S a google review gets you a free drink (honey lemon or lime calamansi) which likely explains the >1k positive reviews they have! Glad that it lived up to the expectations regardless ☺️

𝐎𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐚 (3.5 ⭐️; $8.50) - Comforting and slurpworthy with a broth that’s flavourful albeit on the thinner and lighter side. Comes with shredded chicken and 3 oysters.

𝐋𝐮 𝐫𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐚𝐧 (4 ⭐️; $5.80) - Classic goodness with the savory juicy and fatty braised pork melding nicely with the fluffy pearl rice. Loved that the flavourful sauce abundantly coated each grain of rice.

𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧 (4 ⭐️; $8.80) - Addictive fried chicken with crispy batter and succulent meat. Enjoyed the spicy seasoning and added flavour from the fried curry leaves.

Classic lu rou fan that features succulent pork belly with good ratio of fat and meat. Their sauce is a thicker and savory rendition that nicely coats the fluffy pearl rice. Served with a braised egg, preserved vegetables, taukwa, and broccoli (a tad odd but greens are always welcomed).

𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐤 (3.5 ⭐️; $12.90) - Well-marinated flavourful and succulent pork paired with fried rice, enhanced by their fragrant chili. The rice itself was quite average but enjoyed the texture of fluffy and firm pearl rice.

𝐋𝐮 𝐫𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐚𝐧 (4 ⭐️; $9.50) - Classic order at Taiwanese restaurants and enjoyed their savory and hearty version. The pork belly was on the fattier side which allowed for tender, melt-in-the-mouth bites. Did wish for a tad more sauce to be drizzled onto the rice for added flavour. Paired with sweetened crunchy cucumber, yummy braised egg, and preserved vegetables.

The star was the ultra chewy and QQ noodles. The beef was enjoyable soft, with a higher ratio of tendon/collagen. The soup was lighter and would have preferred stronger, punchier flavours. Do note that this is only available on Fri & Sat.

Braised minced pork bento (4.5 ⭐️; $10.90) - The braised sauce was a sweeter rendition, coating tender pork and fluffy short-grain rice. Would recommend the bento (+$3) that includes sweet-sour pickled vegetables, fried cabbage which had a distinct wok hei, tender taiwanese sausage that was a good level of sweetness, and fried beancurd. Overall, a hearty and yummy bowl.

𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢 𝐝𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐬 (4.5 ⭐️; $9.90) - Ultra QQ hand-pulled noodles that’s one of the better noodle textures around! Already thinking of returning for that springy firm goodness. Well-coated in an addictive fiery sauce that’s not for the weak. The 3 dumplings were generously stuffed with minced meat and fresh prawns.

𝐂𝐂𝐁 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐧 (4 ⭐️; $7.90) - Super soft and fluffy bun encasing ultra juicy and tender chicken, with lovely textural contrast from the crisp thin batter. Enhanced by the smart Thai fusion of mango salad that added a refreshing sour tang and mild spicy kick. Am never one to ask for more carbs but if nitpicking, did feel that a slightly thicker bun would have allowed better balance with the generously thick chicken.
