Was looking for a dessert joint in the area and chanced upon this cosy-looking restaurant. Saw that they had a Yuzu Lavender Cake ($7.80) so could not resist. The sponge itself was the standard kind, with the yuzu and lavender infused into the cream/frosting. Citrusy flavour of the yuzu was quite prominent in certain parts, but only hints of lavender from the cream. Would have preferred the chocolate glaze to have stronger notes of lavender.
Well-balanced coffee to milk ratio; not bitter or acidic; came with a piece of biscuit which is tad too buttery..
Cake is soft & moist came with a layer of lavender cream which is light; the cream is infused with light yuzu taste, mild sour with citrusy note; love how well the taste complement without each other; not too sweet & definitely 1 of the better sweet ending dessert worth a try..
Breaded crab cake patties mixed with various spices then deep-fried to crispy outside while retaining the moisture inside; came with beet-tartar dip which has taste of dukkah which I dislike..
2 pieces of seabass fillet pan-seared to perfection, meat is fresh & firm; peranakan chilli broth is fragrant & appetizing with distinct spices taste; with okra & brinjal; served with tumeric basmati rice which is soft & fragrant; achar is refreshing & appetizing..
Garlic naan is thin & crispy; came with pieces of butter chicken masala which are tender & fragrant; would be better if there's more meat to go with the naan; love the raita at the side which came with fresh, crunchy onions & cucumbers in yogurt base; it helps to mellow down the richness from the spices & sauce; came with curried coated fries which are crispy but tad salty; probably would be better if it's just lightly salted fries instead as too many different flavors in a dish..
