✨ SALA offers a refreshing take on the Tex-Mex cuisine I know only through Chili’s. Their offerings definitely did not make me feel as jelak as I would from the latter. And unsurprisingly so, with health being a central focus of the eatery (the first thing I see when I enter is Organicule Superfoods products), and did I mention they are vegan 😀? But of course, my favourite dish happens to be the least healthy of the lot— the 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢, which we opted to be deep fried instead of air-fried. It’s like an upgraded version of the 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘮 𝘈𝘴𝘢𝘥𝘢 burrito we had, with the same rice and mushroom filling but complemented by a light, crispy shell; topped with a heaping mountain of beans and tomatoes; and slathered with the aforementioned tangy vegan cheese sauce and mayo.
Would love to be back but I stay too far away 😞 I guess as the Chinese saying goes, 有缘再见 (till fate lets us meet again)
My friends weren’t big fans of the pasta but I quite fancied its creamy, nutty and herby flavours. Big props to the service though! I loved our waitress, super attentive and friendly!

💬 They offer a range of bagels: seeded, pumpkin, all sorts, salted, and plain. I recommend sticking to plain or salted. We tried the all sorts bagel for the Hawaiian and it was more dry and hard to eat in comparison to the plain we opted for with the Moo-ing Avocado.
Will be back to try the rest of their extensive menu + all their other baked breads and desserts.

We were almost going to pass on this (because we were having Samgyupsal after) but thank goodness we ended up ordering it. The cut of egg was thick, fluffy, mildly sweet and coated with a crisp fried panko shell. What tied the whole sandwich together was the layer of (wasabi or mustard?) spread in between the block of egg and what I presume to be slices of Sunday's signature Fat White Bread. One time all I ate was a loaf of that very bread for 3 days straight, but that's a story for another day 😩
Super pretty, cozy space + good food, desserts and drinks! What more can one ask for 🤩 Heard they now serve a version of the sando with mentaiko mayo so I'm dying to re-visit!

Place was packed! Not sure if it was because I was extra famished, every bite of the tender, juicy chicken patty paired with a heaping spoonful of the fluffy short-grain rice was heartily delicious. I'm positive as well that the cosy, dimly-lit environment and the minimalistic yet lively illustrations that filled the space contributed to my pleasant experience.
💬 In a (not so subtle) attempt to get us to leave and give way for the line of guests in waiting though, our dishes got cleared away really quick 😂
My meal here was pretty brief, so I'd want to be back to have a deeper impression! As of present, they're in my good books 😋

The jam undercuts any overpowering richness that may exist in the cake. It's also pretty unconventional (not that I'm complaining, I love it) that they use blueberry and raspberry instead of the traditional strawberry jam for their Victoria Sponge. A first for me to see mascarpone being incorporated in the cream as well, and I'm all for it!
💬 Extras from my day: The cake was so good I decided to get another to-go for my mom. Just as I was about to pay though, the lady at the counter dropped the box with my cake. Long story short I almost got charged for the damaged cake but in the end I got it for free. Still paid for another sticky date pudding because I felt bad 😅

One of the better egg sandwiches I've ever had alongside the egg sando at Sunday. Though both sandwiches are very different in terms of preparation and presentation, I found the flavour profile pretty similar. I'll credit the Japanese influence in both dishes for that. Sunbather's rendition offered more contrast in texture with the ramen egg, cabbage, furikake, mustard? or wasabi? mayo in between slices of earthy, mochi-like dark rye bread.
💬: Gave in to temptation mid meal and ordered an iced matcha latte with houjicha kanten (jelly bits) plus an additional vanilla ice cream topping. Big fan of the velvety smooth texture of their ice cream, but I found the latte itself a little underwhelming. I'm by no means an expert in judging matcha, but I didn't like how I could feel sediments of the matcha in every sip. The jelly bits tasted of nothing 😳
Would recommend you go if you're nearby! I'm definitely heading back to try out more menu options (especially their dessert offerings they start serving at 3pm) 🍰

My favourite dish of the afternoon had to be the rice bowl-- namely, the chicken. The guys at Li, with sorcery unbeknownst to me, retained all the essence of chicken within the generous cuts of meat. Also!! The runny onsen egg married everything together to make a heavenly mouthful. We ordered a side of vegetables as well, and they happened to be serving this rendition of cabbage that day (I believe every day the veg changes but idek if this is still a menu option :/ I don't see it on the website). I've never had cabbage charred and paired with citrus and spices before, so this was a pleasantly refreshing experience!
If you visit, please do yourself a favour and order the rice bowl and some pork toast! Li has definitely become one of my favourite spots alongside Table and Apron. I have to be back!

As a fan of sweet and savoury pairings (HAVE YOU EVER TRIED BANANA + BACON), these were right up my alley. The King, or the beef version, had more complexity in flavour and texture given its multitude of elements like a hash brown and crispy cheddar slice. It was more savoury than the chicken version or The Fowl Word, especially with the latter’s side of maple syrup. In fact, the beef version reminded both myself and my friend of satay. I reckon it’s the peanut butter likening to peanut satay sauce. Between the two, I’d say the chicken burger is more palatable to most (and hence the safer option if you’re sceptical), seeing as fried chicken and sweet carbs are already a well-loved combo (chicken and waffles).
💬: Only thing I really could not come to terms with was jam with my burger. Best believe that sad paper cup of jam went virtually untouched.
Definitely try out the Krispy Kreme x MyBurgerLab burgers while they’re available! They’ve extended the availability to 6th October so hurry!

To quote one of my friends, it’s like upgraded vanilla. The dark chocolate comes in a close second. Being a fan of the deep and mildly bitter nature of dark chocolate, it was right up my alley.
💬: The seasonal flavours come at a premium of RM1, priced at RM3.90, compared to the original Matcha at RM2.90.

✨: Came for the toppokki but it took the kimbap to save the day. The toppokki on its own was as one would expect it-- spicy, sweet, chewy, but really not much to shout about. Until that is, you introduce kimbap to the mix. The melding of flavours between the sweet toppokki sauce and the fragrant sesame oil tainted gimbap makes for a mouthful that hits the spot.
💬: I would argue the size of the toppokki was pretty minuscule for the pricetag and its claim to be ‘large’, though 😂 The dish was smaller than the size of my outstretched hand.

Red Wine Mi Sua [RM12]
✨: Was lucky enough to come on a Saturday when Ah Muk serves their red wine mi sua (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)! A slightly intimidating red colour at first glance, but with an absolutely delightful flavour. The broth is appetizingly acidic and is soaked up by the soft noodles. I can’t be a good judge of whether or not -- serves up a good bowl, though, as I have no comparison. Also tried their house-made garlic vinegar that added a refreshing garlicky twang to anything you have it with. Definitely would say I’m a fan.
Someone from Sitiawan (looking at you @eealynlee and @lyshen1234) please make me a bowl so I know what the good stuff is, please.
