At New Bahru, there’s an exotic seafood restaurant called One Prawn & Co that specializes in wood-fire grilled dishes. My hubby and I decided to try their 8-course feast, and it turned out to be a wonderful dining experience.

We began with Ostra Regal Oysters with Lime Cheek, available fresh or grilled. I opted for fresh, and they were impressively large, briny, and absolutely delicious. Next came the Prawn Toast with Aioli — crispy, golden, and packed with flavorful prawn filling. The okra, lightly grilled with togarashi spice and bonito dressing, was simple yet delightful.

The octopus with assam pedas hummus and crispy renkon chips was a perfect balance of smoky, spicy, and tangy flavors. Then came the stars of the evening — the 16-Day Dry-Aged Kingfish Loin with Green Goddess and the Jumbo Tiger Prawns. The kingfish was beautifully tender, while the prawns were incredibly succulent and juicy.

We ended with their signature Burnt Toast Ice Cream, which was both unique and indulgent.

Overall, it was a memorable experience — we truly enjoyed the wood-fire grilled creations and can’t wait to be back for more.

To celebrate a recent job promotion, we decided to treat ourselves to a special 8-course dinner at One Prawn Co — a spot we’d heard rave reviews about from friends.

The restaurant opened its doors at 6 PM, and by 7 PM, it was nearly a full house. If you’re planning a visit, we highly recommend making a reservation in advance to avoid disappointment.

We chose the fixed 8-course dinner set, paired with wines of our choice. The oysters were a refreshing start which was incredibly fresh. We enjoyed one raw and the other grilled, savoring the best of both preparations.

One of the standout dishes of the evening was the prawn toast with aioli which was perfectly crispy and generously filled with prawn paste, delivering a truly satisfying bite. This was followed by the jumbo prawn, grilled to perfection to preserve its natural sweetness. Another highlight was the 16-day-aged kingfish, which was tender, rich in umami, and beautifully balanced in flavor.

All in all, we had a fantastic night celebrating the promotion. One Prawn Co impressed us with their skillfully prepared seafood dishes that showcased freshness, flavor, and texture. A big thank you to Chef Gwyneth and her team for making our celebration a delicious and memorable one.

The service at One Prawn was impeccable, and the atmosphere was nothing short of welcoming — perfect for an unforgettable dining experience. The dishes were well executed, their dry-aged kingfish offered rich, clean flavours which was simply amazing. Personal highlights were the crispy prawn toast — never knew toast could taste this good, and those exceptional jumbo prawns that were simply divine, very succulent.

Overall, a very pleasant experience here!

Usually not a fan of prawns, but left dinner feeling really satisfied! The dishes were well executed and had really unique taste profiles. Unexpectedly, my favourite was the giant prawns - which was succulent and smoky, paired with a very addictive sauce. The dry aged kingfish loin came a close second - delivering a meaty, umami packed flavour which was unlike anything else.

The drinks were fantastic, my partner and I really enjoyed the cocktails although I would have preferred them a little stronger. The blends were creative yet tasty, unlike many other places serving local inspired cocktails which generally taste terrible/ill-fitted.

Came on a Thursday night but the venue was packed - a testament to how the food is very well received.

their best dish was their jumbo tiger prawns, so fresh and the sauce is creamy it goes really well with the prawns. the ambience of the restaurant is really nice as well.

Fresh seafood, bold flavours, and a perfect finish with their burnt toast ice cream sandwich (+ a super interesting cocktail - hi-bor - which tasted like nasi lemak) ✨ every dish was a pleasant surprise for someone who was never a big seafood fan.
