Never mind that I couldn't quite taste the infusion of miso in the salmon as promised by the menu, this is still hands down one of the best salmon fillet I've ever had. Skillfully done, the meat was tender and moist, and tasted wonderful especially when eaten along with the vegetables and mushrooms ragout. Oh and I nearly forgot about the other co-star in this dish: the lobster claw, which would have been great too if not for its mildly rubbery skin.

The angel hair pasta, spot on in texture and firmness, was laced in chorizo oil, and though I wasn't quite used to its taste at first, the flavor soon grew on me and I found myself enjoying it in no time. For a reasonable price of about $12, they were rather generous with 3 huge chunks of sweet-tasting crab meat. If there's only one starter you're ordering from the menu, make it this!

Our starter for the night, an otherwise humble soft egg jazzed up with mushrooms, radish, and a teaspoonful of caviar to elevate it to atas-ness. Not wow, but surely more than good enough!

Heard there's a special soymilk version of the classic putien beehoon here but I'm sticking to the original cos I think that's the best tasting fried beehoon ever! The poached spinach is another one of my best-loved dishes in their menu. The superior stock that's heavily laced with century egg AND salted egg yolk may be sinful but it is so slurp-worthy! First time ordering their deep fried pig trotters, and contrary to my impression of trotters being very fatty, there was minimal fat but loads of glutinous tendons that laid beneath the crispy pig skin instead. Great collagen booster!

Seems like there's a tendency for their chefs to overcook the food here! The fried chicken pieces (top left) were so badly burnt, little was left by the time we trimmed off the blackened parts. The pork belly rice bowl (bottom left) tasted best amongst all, but still, the charred bits that lined every slice of pork were unpleasantly bitter. The BBQ pork ribs (bottom right) were tender enough on the inside, but the borders were extremely tough and dry. The miserly few pieces of chopped seafood on the pancake (top right) were also too rubbery to eat. I can only say, should have eaten at the nearby chomp chomp instead!

I always have a hard time deciding between a mocha or latte, because the former may turn out too sweet or weak in coffee flavor while the latter too acidic for my liking. Glad my choice of latte today didn't disappoint!

I'm never a big fan of barbecue sauce but the one that coats this slab of pork ribs is quite superb! However, I thought the meat could surely do with a bit more tenderness. The kimchi apple salad on the side was also abit weird to taste, but it did help to refresh our palates in between.

Kilo's got a revamped menu (sadly with increased prices too) and if I don't remember wrongly this Squid Ink Rice is one of their new offerings, and a VERY GOOD one at that! Every component was faultless, from the salmon roe that pops in my mouth to the perfectly cooked grains to the best-I-ever-had deep fried baby squids. Not forgetting the flavorsome garlic aioli of cos, which marries all the ingredients so beautifully together. Highly recommend you give them a good mix before eating, and remember to spritz some lime over for added zest!

For me, Kilo is the kind of place where food is quite expensive but yet so delicious it's pretty much worth every single cent. The one dish I must order EVERY single time I visit, be it at the kallang or orchard outlet, is this Cream of Ebiko Pasta. The smoky chargrilled aroma that wafts from the grilled prawns is simply irresistible and entices my tastebuds even before I start to tuck in. These prawns are so fresh and sweet it had me wondering if they were alive right before the cooking. As you can see, the chef is also very generous with the amount of smelt roe topping, which adds great texture and savouriness to the sweeter cream sauce. Overall, this is one lip-smacking pasta that you should not miss!

Top left: Crab and Nduja Tagliolini. Tastes alright but not wow. Also a pity that the crab meat was too finely shredded that I couldn't quite taste nor feel it on my tongue.

Top right: Beef Ravioli stuffed with finely minced wagyu, made even more delectable with shaved cheese toppings. Another plate of this for me please!

Bottom left: Eggplant Parmigiana, disappointingly bland and could do with much more cheese. At $16, this ties with the beef ravioli as the most expensive dish amongst the 4. Are eggplants so costly?!

Bottom right: Baccala Cakes with Sea Urchin Sabayon. Already quite flavorful on their own, these cod fish balls are even more delicious when dipped into the creamy uni sauce, yummy!

Second time having this and it's same same but different. This time, the crispy fried mushrooms are missing in action and that's such a shame cos they added so much crunch to the mushy risotto. There were 2 new additions though: flavorful chunks of crabmeat and mashed capsicum, which I was initially quite skeptical about but turned out to complement the sweetness of the dashi stock really well. I hope they were just coincidentally out of fried mushrooms that day, cos together with those this would be my ultimate comfort food!
