That Modern Twist.
Botan Ebi + pickled mackerel + Sword Fish Belly +Apple cured Salmom + Ikuura ($36)
Beautifully played, stunning take on the Japanese raw meat, but I'm not sure about the pricing.
My Favourite is probably the Apple cured salmon (delectably yummy, with a obvious hint of smoked Apple wood, but not overpowering) and the swordfish belly (nothing can go wrong with bellies). The mackerel isn't my favourite, slightly too fishy for my liking.
If you like satay and burger, this is the baby to have if you are around the area. The rice bun, is nice and crisp on the outside while soft and chewy on the inside. Thin, so that you can taste the meat and cucumber. Good meat-rice proportion. Such a fun take on a burger, with 24 hour marinated chicken thigh and peanut sauce on the side.
$5/oyster. This larger than life oyster is already heavenly on its own. Topped with smoked tomato gratin, this sexy oyster just made me blush like I was on a first date. Innocent, but packs a whole lot of sexy flavour. And the smoked taste is strong, but gentle to the fresh oyster like the caress of soft silk against a baby's bottom.
What a clever dessert! A seamless blend and mix of coconut, laksa leaf ice cream and pomelo and Chilli. This is one fusion dessert that is perfect to me. I felt that I truly am having a bowl of laksa, but served cold. While it is savoury, the sweetness is pulled through. The coconut, wasn't heavy as I thought that it would be, but the creaminess help the laksa leaf ice cream be a little more dense. The pomelo give the whole dish a burst of sweetness whenever I take a bite. Popping sweetness makes the dish even more fun to eat. Highly recommend you to try this dessert when you have the chance.
Beef tongue as you all know, is the softest and tenderest (if there is such a word) part of the cow. And this bowl of beef tongue already won half the battle, for being well a tongue. Sliced thinly and braised, this well-seasoned beef tongue is then drizzle with wasabi, and decorated with slightly charred pearl onions. Pink in colour, the bowl dazzled me with a mild, but yet explosive flavours of salty and sweet (from the onions) and a tiny hint of wasabi taste. Nothing overwhelms. It sure is a great starter to share with somebody over a glass of good cocktail.
Legit Chili crab-like sauce that put some Chili crabs to shame. The sauce is well-balanced of sweet and spicy, thicken but not gooey (trust me, I have ever had some sauce that it's like gooey, that it's almost gelatine like), and the egg thinly swirled into the sauce. This thicken sauce plays well with their fried mantou on the side, or if you have friends having the classic grilled lobster, steal some of their fries and go ahead and dip it right in.
The highlight of that night. The spicy salted egg butter sauce, is a good dressing to the lobster, in which was firm and fresh enough. Although, Nobelle beg to differ, cause she took the claw, and sadly was just all mushy, yuck! The sauce is creamy, with a good kick of spicy and a nice dose of parsley blended into the sauce. On its own, the sauce is simply a killer, paired with anything, it will make that lobster a star. Thank goodness for the sauce.. Really. YUMZ.
Located in PasarBella (Suntec), this melt in your mouth, chewy tender beef meat is to die for, literally. Lightly drizzled in soy-truffle sauce, the bowl is fragrant and not overwhelming. Oh and those deep fried garlic slices, are stella, adding more flavour and texture to this already lovely bowl. This bowl has a slight edge over the already famed tanuki-bowl, with their oh-so-fluffy rice, and extremely runny onsen egg! Jjang 👍🏻
Marinated in five spices before being deep fried, brings out those good texture of soft and crispy in perfect harmony. Dressed on top with green salad and lily bulbs, there is a good contrast of taste of the perfectly crisped salad (lightly tossed in sesame dressing) and the meat itself. Perfect start to a good lazy Sunday luncheon.
For $18/bowl, this Donburi tasted and looked legit! The meat is done perfectly, pink in the centre, and seemingly "melting" into your mouth with every bite. And while they state "truffle", we all know that there isn't any in this bowl (truffles slices ain't cheap). The "truffle" sauce tasted and smell legit! It brought out the flavour of the beef nicely. The onsen egg was good, runny and soft coating the rice nicely. But the rice itself was utterly and completely disappointing. There are parts of the rice that tasted uncooked. When you chew on the rice, there bits that are tough, and even looked uncooked. Boo to the chef for not having the basic of cooking a pot of proper white and fluffy rice 😒. If not, it's an good and cheap alternative to the famous Fat Cow's beef bowl.
Finally giving this place a try, since the outlet is being opened by one of my friend. Helmed by 3 handsome and young bosses (of which two are the Chefs), this place give "eating clean" an edge over the ever boring salads. Highly recommend the salmon for it's being nicely cooked at a controlled temperature, making the salmon flaky, soft, and delicious. That day, the soba salad (highly recommended) was a tad dry for me. I did gave my friend a quick feedback, so they are aware. Thank god the teppanyaki mushrooms were done just nicely! Portion was big for me on that day, so my belly was happy. I can see why all these weight conscious office crowd queues for their bowl of healthy happiness! Quick, simple and packs a punch of flavours dancing in your mouth!
Buttery, melts in your mouth, divine and beautiful. That's how I will describe this plate. The crunch from the fried parsnip chips, and the soft smooth pumpkin purée is a pair to reckon with. It balanced the saltiness of the red miso making this dish a pleasure to have all these dance in my mouth. #throwback
