Was excited to try the ramen from Machida, especially since the broth sounded super rich flavourful. This particular one was their famous tonkotsu broth with garlic oil and butter added. You also get to choose how strong you want the flavour to be i.e. light, medium or heavy.
I would strongly recommend nothing more than medium or you'll be reaching for ice water every few seconds. The broth was good; but a few mouthfuls in and you'll be reaching for a glass of ice water soon as you'll be overwhelmed by how salty it is. Tbh, it really was quite overpowering, so go easy on the flavour of the broth.
Also, the noodles are Yokohama-style yellow noodles - very reminiscent of our own local yellow noodles. While some may get used to it, it just tasted like normal yellow noodles to me which I personally don't really like.
The other ingredients were good though, especially the cha-shu with fats that melt in your mouth. Overall the experience was just marred by the overly-salty soup.
Great ramen at a really affordable price! The soup was thick and really flavourful - those who prefer a thicker and concentrated broth would like the one here. The black variant has a strong garlicky flavour which makes it tastier and really enhances the flavour of the soup. The cha shu was tender with melt-in-your-mouth fats, and considering the price, quite a reasonable portion of toppings were given. You get to choose between thick or thin noodles, which is a plus for me as I prefer those on the thinner side. The noodles were cooked al dente with a nice bite to it. All in all, good ramen that's worth the price!
The noodles were springy and cooked perfectly, and the broth was rich and creamy. Super loved the fact that they gave a lot of onion which gives it additional flavour and crunch with each bite. The egg was gooey and runny inside - damn satisfying to just bite into. The pork cutlet was not too oily despite being fried, and had just the right amount of fats such that each piece was tender and soft. Really liked the ramen here!
The soup was light and clear; a refreshing departure from all more commonly richer and thicker broths. The noodles were firm and springy, and had a really nice texture. Toppings include spring onion, bamboo shoot, seaweed, pork slices, and an egg. The pork was tender and melts in your mouth (which is the way it should be) and the bamboo shoots and onion provided a nice crunch with each mouthful. The egg, being the star of every ramen, did not disappoint. The centre was nice and runny, and the white was not over-cooked and was soft and spring. Really liked it for its simplicity. Worth trying! Cost $14.00
