Tender, juicy, and most importantly, very flavourful! Was I too hungry? Initially, I thought this would taste like the usual tze char kopi-O pork ribs, but it was not! It could fit as a high-priced main at a posh restaurant! For $16, this goes very well with my couscous grains ($3, lightly mixed with chives)! On a Tuesday evening, this place is quiet, and it has happy hour until 8.30! Located at the old NOL Building, near Labrador MRT and opposite Gillian Barracks; it's a great place for a quiet weeknight dinner!
As its colloquial name suggests, this Alexandra establishment is chock-full of local pride, and that shows in its food. The zi char inspired space is helmed by executive chef Nixon Low, previously from Portico, so despite the restaurant's cheeky branding, expect the kitchen team to be real serious about the food. The space is very near Mapletree Business City, which makes it a great lunch spot for Burpplers working in the area. Pop by for their rice or salad bowls — the Signature Sesame Soy Sauce Chicken ($6.90) comes with wood ear mushrooms and pomegranate for crunch and flavour, the Nonya Assam Salmon ($8.90) comes slicked in a tangy and delicious gravy, and the Kimchi Chicken Salad ($7.90) keeps it light but tasty with soft-centered eggs and a soy sesame dressing. At dinner, the menu is filled with zi char style dishes like Har Cheong Chicken ($13) served roulade style and Ang Ji Kao Stout Braised Beef Cheek ($17), a spin on Guinness beef stew that comes served on a genius crunchy peanut butter mash. Take note that they close on weekends.
Avg Price: $10 for lunch, $25 for dinner

Perfectly cooked Salmon with crispy skin! Assam is thick & creamy! Would be even better if there is more salmon & sauce but I'm not complaining with the $9.90 price tag (inclusive of a drink). The thai iced tea is quite shiok & goes with the don! Recommended to satisfy a don craving!
From Jiakpalang Eating House — not to be misread as chapalang it's actually 吃饱人 translated from Hokkien; most probably means "eat full person"? Nonetheless, they serve up rice bowls and salads during lunch hours here, while serving only cakes and coffee past lunch till evening.
Went straight for this because of the unusual pairing with Chinese pear while also comes with plumped raisins, vegetables alongside the brown rice mix. Overall a pretty decent rice bowl; briny beef brisket that was rather tender though a little gamey, a savoury mix of grains and soft greens to crunch on; the addition of the crunchy cubes of pear was strange yet fitting at the same time, providing a hint of sweetness alongside the raisins to cut the heavy flavours of the entire bowl. The poached egg was a little overdone however; didn't really flow. Generally a rather wholesome rice bowl that fits the working crowd, though definitely could be a bit more refined if one were to be a little picky about the overall quality.
