Nice To 🥩 You!
It's been a hot minute since I have been back at Fat Belly and their steak is just as good as I remembered!
For starters, look no further than their Raclette Cheese ($18) with Toasted Sourdough ($6) served with a side of salted butter. Such an indulgent number! The gooey melted cheese was so shiok and comforting with the saltish crisp bacon bits studded in the mix. The slices of sourdough were crusty and fragrant too, the perfect thing to mop up all that rich goodness.
Moving to the star of the show, the steaks arrive with a robust crust from the open flame and together with salt, garlic confit and mustard sauce - each cut was grilled to pink perfection with that deep, smokey char. The Australian Full Blood Wagyu MS 8/9 Denver ($65) was bolder in flavour and rather beefy. The Denver cut with the more rectangular, block-like shape had a more uniform marbling which I personally prefer. It was simply rich and juicy. With the more tapered and triangular shape, the American Wagyu MS 6/7 Picanha ($55) had higher marbling and glossy fat rendering. Succulent with that yummy seared fat cap - providing that added layer of buttery decadence.
Don’t sleep on the sides because the Pomme Puree ($10) was super silky smooth. The velvety mash was executed wonderfully with plenty of butter and cream. The charred Fried Brussels Sprouts ($14) were so moreish as well! The sweet-savoury garum caramel with crunchy seeds gives that much-needed oomph.
All in all, ignoring the fact that Serene Centre is still undergoing renovations, it is a really nice spot for some solid steak.
I had lunch with a friend here and was so impressed by their wagyu steak. I’m still thinking about how juicy and full of flavour it was from my first bite. I’m usually a tough critic on my steaks and hate when it tastes rubbery, but the steak I had here met my expectations and more — when seasoned with a little sea salt on the side, was SO savoury, smoked to perfection. I love a tender steak! Also, I liked that FBS was a 3min walk from botanics mrt, so it was very accessible. We had a series of dishes and on the whole was really satisfied with everything, the staff are nice and hospitable plus the food was served at just the right pace. For starters, we had the sourdough and it looks unassuming, but it was torched in front of our eyes, so the result of that was a crisp, perfectly buttered, just-enough portion to whet your appetite. This was served with the burrata, in little bite-sized pieces and was served with pesto, which was delicious. Cheesecake was homemade and of a firmer texture, balanced with yuzu (which I found quite zesty), and topped with tangy berries so that made for a rich, fuller flavour (but you’ll definitely want to share this dessert as it feels a bit much if just for 1 person). The star for me in all this was still the wagyu steak of course (I think this was the Denver for $68), which was so tender, as well as steak with fries ($32). The latter was still good but is firmer. Overall really enjoyed this cosy little steakhouse, nice for dates, both romantic or with good friends!
Tomatoes topped with cheese and olive oil caviar. The started was unique refreshing and had robust taste. For me the sauce was the start in terms of flavour while the tomatoes topped with cheese makes it a refreshing and creamy dish
Went to fat belly today and i must say i had a very experience there. The ambience is fantastic and the food there is amazing. Had the wagyu beef and it’s the best I have ever eaten.
Great experience at FBG. Quality of their steaks are exceptional and very worth the price. Best sour dough bread I've had. Overall a great place to bring a date on a special occasion!
First visit to FBG at Serene Centre (Near Botanic Gardens) and it definitely did not disappoint!
Start off with a sourdough bread and burrata. The sourdough bread is a must try as it was super crispy and tasty. The burrata was really good as well!
For the mains, we ordered a Blood Wagyu - Denver, a Wagyu steak rice bowl and the broccolini. The Wagyu steaks were amazing. They were very tender and juicy. It had a beautiful char on the meat as well which gave that distinct grilled meat flavour. Paired with the salsa verde, it was a stunner. I was pleasantly surprised by the Brussels Sprouts in the rice bowl as well. It’s a dish I’ve not tried before so I was a little cautious at first. But the flavours were amazing and won me over.
We ended the meal with a delicious cheesecake. Overall, an amazing experience FBG and would definitely come back again.
