Sometimes you just get that itch for some good olā frog porridge. My dad used to bring me to Dunman Food Centre for this, wanton mee and the infamous rojak stall with crazy long waits.
Gong bao frog is always my top pick for the spicy gravy thatās awesome with the thick porridge. Theirs was a little sweeter than we liked but we did ask for it to be less spicy so that might have thrown the balance off. But damn, their frogs were one of the silkiest, most tender frogs Iāve had. Will be back! šø
Frog Porridge ($28/5 frogs)
.
Thereās a variety of options to have the frogs done. The more interesting ones included frogs in herbal soup and chicken essence. As this was my first visit Dragon City Claypot Frog Porridge, I opted for the conservative gong bao in part also so that I could drizzle the thick black gravy into my plain porridge for more flavour. My benchmark of a good frog porridge is Sinma G7. The frog meat here is perfectly done with the texture still springy and tender. The sauce was also tasty and gave my porridge the heat and kick it needed. When compared with Sinma though, I found the sauce more starchy and less aromatic and I was a little disappointed that I couldnāt choose the number of frogs then decide to split the frogs into different flavours. That would involve ordering each flavour separately at a steeper price point.
