Price has increased to $9.50, but this is still a stall I would frequent. Generous slab of salmon (loved how they cooked it such that the skin is crisp). Pickles and miso soup to complement. Sweet sauce to counter the savoury taste, and definitely the star has got to be the mentaiko sauce which was served in generous amounts.
What's most disappointing was the deep-fried fish. Never deep-fry salmon, especially if you're pairing it with mentai. The result didn't make sense. However, the mentai and donburi sauce salvaged the dish. Overall, $9 for this in a coffeeshop is a fail.
Salmon Mentai Don was pretty good, but I find the sauce was quite salty. Bf ordered Unagi Tama Don ($8.80) and he loves it, unagi was cooked perfectly. Tbh I also preferred the Unagi Tama Don more.
We also got the Donya Maki ($5.80) to share. It was a pretty good dinner 👍🏻
Sharing both their food and their story with the heartlands in toa payoh - making fancy Japanese dishes affordable for the masses. From seeing the torched mentaiko, it's irresistible smell, and digging in to the generous mentaiko paired with nicely done salmon (crisp skin, tender flesh) - it's a winner. ($8.80)
This place is about a 5mins walk from Braddell mrt
Also happy that they now have an outlet in bugis!
$5.8 for this chicken katsu don! This place is part of a coffee shop. The food is really decent for the price and the people serving us were so nice! We were one of the last customers for the day so they gave us some bonus things on top of what we ordered and we were so pleasantly surprised :”) Will be back to try more dishes for sure!
Went for my usual fix of salmon mentai don! Love how crispy the salmon skin is, and how the saltiness of the mentai compliments the the sauce poured over the rice! The sauce can get a little salty, but you can always request for less sauce. I also like how they torched the mentai to give it a smoky flavour. Don comes with a free miso soup, great to finish the don with!
