What really wowed me about this bowl of ramen was the texture of the noodles. It was just hard enough, with enough bite, But didn’t feel undercooked. The soup was super flavorful but do note that it thickens when mixed in with the chilli sauce. Not sure why though. For $13.90, I’ll be back.
What’s the best part about a dry ban mian? The chilli sauce. When done right, it should deliver a punch without being too oily but still mega fragrant.
Grandma Ban Mian ($5) hits all the right notes - with the best type of chilli, perfectly cooked noodles and a runny side up added to the mix. I absolutely loved how the anchovies added a nice savory flavour to the noodles and that welcoming crunch. Always a good choice at Amoy food market.
I’m not a fan of burgers so I have not been to Omakase Burger 😂 I was surprised how good this is... I’m all ready to head back again 👅.
Fluffy buns that is crusted below, with a medium rare juicy patty and CHEESE!!!! I finished this a little too quickly than I’d have liked cause it’s just so yummy!!! The fries that comes with the set tastes great too as they are nicely skinny and soft on the inside.
$18.90 a set. Not cheap but a great value I must say.
Apiary waffle and ice creams are a great way to close off a FriYAY night with friends. We chose the Apiary and chocolate flavored ice cream and ended up all just diving straight into the chocolate one. Not that the signature Apiary ice cream isn’t good, it is really smooth and creamy without coming off as too sweet, however, the chocolate was WHOA. Dark, creamy and subtly bitter, it just worked so well with the sweet crusty waffle below. And oh, please don’t miss out on the waffles, fluffy on the inside, crusty on the outside, it is a perfect match for the ice cream.
Always loved the brownies at Bundt and my favourite has always been the Himalayan Pink Salt with Mars bars/ Snicker bars brownies... Until this contender came along.
The banana brownie is so fragrant and moist, it’s just so damn good. I took my first bite after a really heavy lunch and found myself finishing half of it 🤦🏻♀️. Had to actively stop myself from eating more to save some for tea break. Definitely something I would come back to... Thank goodness they change their flavors everyday otherwise I foresee an expanding waistline from this brownie 🤣
I guess what’s still throwing me off slightly is the price tag of this Nasi Campur. $25. $25. $25.
Created in the good hands of Malcom Lee, this super lemak Nasi Campur is a peranakan’s dream. Absolutely loved the salted duck balls and the homemade sambal sauce. The rice also packed a punch.
But I can’t figure out what is PBD’s role in this though....
$14 for steak frites, Salad and 2 eggs in a nice WiFi enabled cafe is really quite a steal (considering the portion, ambience and quality). While it’s not a drop dead yummy steak, it was nicely executed, with a little char on the top. I also loved how the sunny side ups were properly done with a flowy yolk!
Compared to the famous mapo tofu, Julius and I surprisingly preferred this Dan Dan Mian instead. It’s noodles are SO CHEWY AND SPRINGY, I’ve honestly not have had anything like it before. The texture is unparalleled. And also, that lovely peanut sauce that accompanies the noodles was really yummy without getting too ‘gelat’.
The half and half signature set costs $11.90.
Supposedly helmed by a Michelin Star chef, Chen’s Mapo Tofu is a really good place to try the Michelin awarded mapo tofu. That gooey spicy sauce is accompanied by chunks of fluffy tofu and drenched onto a mountain of Japanese rice. It’s a great mapo sauce I admit, however it just got a little too oily towards the end.
We had the signature half and half set for $11.90.
There was a little buzz on social media when Guan Hin moved over to Chinatown Complex so I’ve been wanting to try it. Sadly, it was never opened when I went over so I had to wait until last weekend to finally have It. IT WAS SO WORTH IT!
The carrot cake bits were so fluffy and soft, I could break it with my tongue. Two thumbs up for the super flavorful egg that has been thrown over the sizzling hot plate with chye Poh and garlic. Everything in this dish is what you can ask for in a carrot cake. $3 for the portion you see here is a really reasonable price too!
When cravings for beef noodles hit, a relatively good place to go for it will be LeNu Taiwanese Beef Noodle Bar.
I had mine with picked vegetables, which surprisingly came with jalapeños (??), which added a nice kick to the broth but was quite painful to bite into. Literally burst into tears when I accidentally hit into one.
Soup wise was rather thick, but can it compare to its Taiwanese counterparts? I’d hesitate to answer.
Came here on a cold rainy day, seeking for some warmth and comfort. Chicken Hotpot is like a huge Gong Bao pot of chicken bits, to be adorned with more vegetables/ tofu/ noodles (+$2.20/ plate onwards). A large pot was plenty for two, comes at a price of $30+ per pot.
Simple, delicious and yummy - the gravy is itself was addictive to have. Literally wiped out my rice after drenching it with the gravy.
