Nasi Padang

I guess what’s still throwing me off slightly is the price tag of this Nasi Campur. $25. $25. $25.

Created in the good hands of Malcom Lee, this super lemak Nasi Campur is a peranakan’s dream. Absolutely loved the salted duck balls and the homemade sambal sauce. The rice also packed a punch.

But I can’t figure out what is PBD’s role in this though....

The only lunch option on the menu, this Nasi Lemak costs $12.90 and comes with chicken drunlets, egg, peanuts and Ikan Billis. Non chicken lovers can opt to change it to their Otah instead. The rice is fragrant, chicken drummer is pretty 'shiok', but what stole the show for me was the SUPER SPICY sambal chili on the side which I kept going for, even though it was burning in my mouth. Worth a splurge, even though my preferred nasi Lemak is the $3.50 version found in hawker centers.

With Golden Shoe closing down, I made my way to have this Nasi Lemak once more. Not necessarily the most yummy, but I assure you it is definitely one of the most value for money around.

Unlike other branded nasi lemak, this one here is simple and homely. One drumstick, one otah and one serving of vegetable only came up to $2.70 (including takeaway box)! Tell me how affordable is that!

Their drumstick was super juicy and crispy, though slightly rare on the inside. The vegetable and otah were just average. But the star here is that sweet spicy chilli sauce you wish you could have more of! In fact, the lady in front of me was asking for a second serving of chilli!

So I slowly made my way to Amoy and decided that I had a Nasi Lemak craving. While standing in line patiently for my turn, the uncle from the store came to check on our orders. And then I heard him tell this lady behind me, "Sorry sold out already." Checked my watched and i was only 1230pm.

This unassuming stall situated right beside the famous Lor Mee on the 2nd floor had a loyal following of its own. It isn't surprising why. This plate pictured was only $3, came with a huge pile of super fragrant coconut rice and a kickass chicken wing. The chilli sauce is on the sweet side, but it was still satisfying to Mix in the chilli with the fragrant rice. At this price and quality, it's no wonder people make a beeline for it.

Nasi Ambeng is essentially Nasi Padang on a platter - a mountain of rice surrounded by various types of dishes. The one pax portion served at Pu3 comes with choice of chicken or beef, cuttlefish, tempeh, chilli eggplant, bagada land ikan billis. And trust me, that's just about sufficient for two (even though it's meant to be a one pax portion).

You'll find yourself digging into a medley of spices- having mouthfuls after mouthfuls while slurping on your Teh Cino ice to extinguish the fire in your mouth. Definitely among the more value-for-money Javanese food I've had.
