Treating ourselves to a better lunch becos Friyay! I had the Chef Fishwich ($11.90) which was unfortunately very meh: The ciabatta was rather tough to chew and there wasn't enough sauce/flavour from the fish. The pasta option definitely looked better and tastier. We shared a side of truffle fries ($5.90) which was pretty good actually! Sufficiently salty and truffly, and good thickness and amount of potato as well! And for the price, very worth it. We shared a Tiramisu ($5.90) becos we were both craving sweets but I found it way too alcoholic for my liking!
Felt like treating ourselves to a better lunch today so we found ourselves at this nearby cafe. Ambience felt nice and cosy here, rather quiet on a weekday at lunch time. I had the Smoked Salmon Tartine ($16) and my colleague had The Hulk ($16). The portion was deceivingly small: a single slice of toast but piled on with ingredients. I'm a coffee-lover so I had a Long Black ($4) but they had really interesting tea latte options on their menu like Tumeric and Beetroot. Perhaps I'll try those next time round; I'm pretty curious to see how they'd taste like!
Apple pies are my weakness: Warm, cinnamon-y apples in a flaky buttery pie crust, accompanied with a scoop of my favourite cookie and cream ice cream from Island Creamery. The cold and hot combination is the perfect complement for each other. It was reasonably priced as well ($6.50), and there were actually a variety of other desserts that were really tempting: Waffles, Baked Alaska and the popular Dark Chocolate Lava Cake. One of my favourite ice-cream joints in Singapore!
Looking forward to the desserts and I was so pleased when I saw Tiramisu on my plate: just my favourite Italian dessert. Apart from that, there was Panna Cotta, Apple Cake with fruits and a small piece of sweet Meringue. Really wonderful sweet ending to this satisfying dinner course!
The No Menu dinner course was at $108/pax.
For mains, we both chose the fish option: Snapper with lemon butter sauce on a bed of spinach, cherry tomatoes and enoki mushrooms. The fish was pan-fried nicely to retain its moisture. Since I preferred it light, I skipped the creamy butter sauce and just squeezed a bit of lemon juice over the top; goes perfectly together. ππ»π
Our second course were the Beef Bolognese Tagliatelle, Tomato-based Penne and Truffled Risotto (with truffle slices to garnish! π) My favourite was definitely the handmade tagliatelle pasta, perfectly al dentΓ© and well-coated with the bolognese sauce.
I've heard amazing reviews of this place for their food and service, and we're pretty excited to try out their No Menu course. It was hustling and bustling that evening, but somehow I loved the vibe and the cosy atmosphere, and their attentive staff providing excellent service. We didn't make reservations but glad that we managed to get a place on a Thursday night.
For starters, we had Burrata Cheese with Salad, Prosciutto and Figs and Potato Salad, Homemade Bread and Sicilian Tomatoes. The buffalo mozzarella was definitely the star of this dish. But my favourite? The warm focaccia bread in the background that's served free-flow, dipped in olive oil or with a pΓ’tΓ© spread. Can't stop thinking about that bread! π»
Was so excited for Indian cuisine for dinner tonight cos it's been quite awhile π We had the Fish Tikka Masala, Chicken Vindaloo and Gobi Manchurian. There was one-for-one for mains on the Entertainer app too so total bill came up to just about $30 for 2. Really worth it for the spread! Oh and the Teh Halia (less sweet) here is one my favourites!
Brunch date with the girls @ Rider's cafe. The place was full when we arrived, around 130pm on a Saturday but thankfully we made an advanced booking via the Chope app. I had the Smoked Salmon and Sweet Corn Hash ($17); can't go wrong with this standard breakfast combination so it's pretty decent, but the sweet corn hash could have been more flavourful. We had 1/2 dozen Cornflakes Crusted Chicken Wings as appetisers, and the yoghurt dip that came with it was really good, I'll definitely recommend this for sharing! The uniqueness of this cafe will be the occasional sightings of horses and equestrians! Definitely makes this a more interesting cafe to visit despite its slight inaccessibility!
Back at one of my favourite Japanese places for their value-for-money meal sets. I had the Salmon Teriyaki ($11.90) from their ala carte menu, with add on of a chasoba and chawanmushi set ($5) that came with fruit. Good food and always great customer service π€
One of my favourite JB cafes in the Jalan Dhoby area mainly because of the lovely flower-themed ambience of this 2-storied establishment. I had the Salmon Eggs Benedict and I'd recommend this one because instead of hollandaise sauce, it comes with a healthier pesto sauce spread on the toast. Apart of coffee, they sell quite a selection of refreshing fruit-based beverages. Their cakes look pretty and nice for pictures but I'd personally give those a miss, not the best! (The carrot cake was way too moist for my liking!)
This is the first time I'm hearing about Soup Restaurant branching out to serve ηΉεΏ with this Teahouse concept. Soup Restaurant is one of my favourite trusted Chinese restaurant so I had high expectations. For ηΉεΏ, I'd recommend what we ordered: the Har Gaw had a generous portion of prawns, the Char Siew Sou had a light pastry although on the oily side, and the soft and fluffy Mushroom Bao resembling a giant Shiitake was interesting to look at and had a pretty tasty filling too. The shrimp dumpling noodles were just meh imo, I'd skip that and go straight for the other Dim Sum on the menu. π
