This is a place I've been long wanting to try and I think I've found my newest favourite vegetarian restaurant. Great food with an interesting fusion with Mediterranean flavours, lovely candle-light and wine appropriate ambience and warm hospitality from the friendly waitresses: 3 big thumbs up from me ππ»ππ»ππ» I had the Bosco Misto, which was made up of patties of spinach, tofu and feta in a sweet plum sauce. Very rich and filling and great for sharing. Our second dish was the Lasagna, which was a good choice to complement and cut through the richness from the first dish. Both very yummy dishes, looking forward to try out the many other options on the menu! π
Really excited to try out this vegetarian restaurant that was awarded a star in the Michelin BIB guide and was featured in a recent NOC Food King video! We went for all that were chef-recommended and everything we ordered was really way up there on the flavour-profile scale, with my personal favourites being the Olive Brown Rice and Enchanted Forest. I got to try so many varieties of mushrooms which I never know existed, and cooked in ways that is very similar to meat-dishes, e.g.: sweet and sour, rendang. A definite recommendation for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike!
If you are looking for really good Saba (aka Mackerel) fish, this is the place. The fish was so well-grilled to retain the moistness of the center and the skin was lightly salted, slightly crispy and had a tinge of charring. The set meal was complete with two small sides of seasoned cucumber and tofu, seaweed soup and Japanese rice. There was a promotion for 1 free toro-saba sushi if you downloaded and created an account on the JPassport app so we did to sample the sushi. ππ» (Which we found interesting but we'd rather stick with normal sushi)
SOBAAAA πI had intense soba cravings yesterday so imagine my excitement when I found specialising in soba noodles and priding themselves in an msg-free broth. I ordered the simple chicken and leek hot soba ($15.80) which was also the chef recommended option, to experience the taste as it is. The shoyu-based broth had hints of yuzu and it was really flavourful despite being no-msg. The noodles were done nicely too, with a good bite and texture to them. Very satisfied with my dinner and a really perfect dish when you are wanting something warm on a cold day!
Found my newest favourite brunch spot for the weekends. π€ Known for their gluten-free bread and healthier options, this place is pretty popular and the busiest eatery along Chip Bee Gardens on a Sunday at lunchtime. I went for a relatively lighter option of veggie quiche and Raw Energy salad set ($11). Really liked the salad, really refreshing and naturally sweetened. The hollandaise sauce on the Eggs Benedict with Crispy Bacon ($17) is pretty rich and creamy, and is one of the more popular brunch choice there. Oh and this place is dog-friendly with an outdoor eating space too! πΆ
Ventured out looking for good fish soup and found ourselves here upon recommendation. Located within NUS Alumni is this quiet Chinese restaurant that was awarded 1 star in the 2016 Michellin BIB Guide. We ordered a veggie, tofu bowl and a bowl of sliced fish soup noodles to share. The dishes, I'd skip and just go for their famed fish soup which had a really rich, creamy and flavourful broth and the slices of fresh sang yu (snakehead fish). It was good but I think a portion for 2 to share is just nice as the broth is pretty rich. Nevertheless, 2 thumbs-up for good service and quiet ambience on a Friday night!
Such photogenic scrambled eggs toast set sitting atop a generous chunk of fried chicken chop in mushroom sauce. The eggs looks as good as it tastes; buttery and silky and perfect with a thick slice of toast. I'll skip the chicken chop though, found it a tad too dry and personally not a fan of this combination (although I think some will really enjoy having more meat/proteins in their dish). We had to have the famed egg tarts which never fails to disappoint. And the milk tea was nice and rich, and it came unsweetened so that the sugar level preference is entirely up to you. Food was tasty, value for money and there wasn't a queue on a Sunday at lunch time. I'll definitely be here often. π
βοΈGood serving portions for hungry appetites
βοΈ1-for-1 for house-pour wines ($12) on weekdays
βοΈGood range of menu options: mains, pizza and pasta
We chanced upon this restaurant as we were randomly walking around Jem looking for a non-crowded place to dine at. The food was pretty ok; the pasta and sauce were tasty but found my seabass ($16.95) slightly dry. My dinner date had the Margarita ($18.95) and he seems to quite enjoy it. For dessert we had a nice slab of warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice-cream and drizzled chocolate fudge ($6.95), basically a combination that was difficult to go wrong. π
This was on the side menu but I'm glad I didn't miss it. Cooked in white wine sauce with capers and olives, this seafood dish (salmon, mussels, clams) was plenty flavourful. Some may find this too salty but i actually really like the rich savoury flavours. I'm usually not one to point this out but thumbs up on presentation too, makes me feel as though the chef spent effort with the overall assembly.
For a lovely, sophisticated ambience and guarantee of good brunch quality, Wild Honey is the place for that. It was a busy Saturday afternoon at lunch time, but thankfully I had reserved a place using the Chope app so zero waiting time for tables. With the crowd, it was difficult to get the attention of the staff, but I really did appreciate the waitresses' stellar customer service in spite of that. I had the Tunisian, the vegetarian Shakshuka, which seems highly recommended on Burpple. I liked the fact that the brioche was thick and fluffy to fully absorb the tangy tomato and eggy stew. ππ I find the prices are actually pretty reasonable considering the big portions and cafe location. I'm excited to try the other menu options when I'm back here. π
Sweets after dinner is a definite must, glad we chose to walk over to this cafe all the way from Little India after our dinner to try out the famous lava cafe. I'm all for the presentation of the dish and it's incredibly satisfying to cut into the cake and watch the 'lava' spill over the ice-cream and cookie nougat crumbs. I liked the mix of textures, soft and creamy from the cake and ice-cream, complimenting the crunch from the brittle and crumb bottom. And the combination of flavours were all well-thought out. There was an ice-cream bar there too and I got a scoop of the Black Sesame: luxuriously creamy and rich in flavour. This is a dessert place I'd definitely recommend. ππ»π
My newest favourite ice-cream joint! And located so conveniently close to my place as well. π My love for ice-cream is like no other, it somehow has the ability to lift you out of whatever crappy mood I am in. I had the Blackcurrent Sorbet and Coffee flavours and both were great, a good balance between sweet and tart. I sampled a few of the other flavours though (the Premium ones) and some were a miss for me, so recommended to try some out first! Very reasonably priced at $6.50 for 2 scoops. I'm excited to try out the waffles next time I'm there!
