It’s a Good Friday indeed having brunch here at Faculty of Caffeine. This cafe is just a short 5-10 mins walk from City Square Mall which was great because we were starving when we reached (reason: we spent 3 hours clearing customs...) I had the Bacon and Eggs Waffles: Fluffy waffles with mustard seed butter, buttery scrambled eggs, beef bacon. My brunch date had went for the full flair: The Breakfast, with additional sautΓ©ed mushrooms, crispy hash brown and stewed chickpeas. The slight variation from the usual toast is pretty interesting and there are other heavier options on the menu too (pasta, rice bowls) so it should be a rather nice lunch spot too. ☺️

Been exercising a little more frequently these days so feel the need to eat clean (so as to not be counter-effective!) Glad to be at Haakon for dinner tonight for their nutritious and wholesome, yet filling bowls. Really makes eating clean a whole lot easier and yummier! I customised mine, choosing the half brown rice and salad option, and would say it’s a decent serving size. Been going meatless pretty regularly now so I opted for tofu, beetroot hummus, mushrooms and veges to fill up my bowl.

This dessert combination is one of my favourites: Warm and crusty Apple pie with a single scoop of my favourite cookie and cream ice-cream from Island Creamery. This is my feel-better therapy if I’m having a bad day. 😌

For a different brunch experience, I highly recommend this place. Artichoke is now available on Chope so I won’t have any difficulties with finding seats for 4 on a Saturday afternoon. The vegetarian-friendly Cauliflower Sabbich is just amazing: charred cauliflower, pickled vegetables, hummus and crispy toast; all those things I really love. The Feta Burrata was good too (the cheese and bread combination is just so simply satisfying) but there’s a whole bunch of rocket salad in this one so those who don’t fancy this β€˜bitter’ salad shouldn’t order this! The last item was the Turkish Hot Pan Eggs which had soft-boiled eggs, mozzarella cheese and lamb meatballs. I’m not a fan of lamb but others who tried this enjoyed it!

Teriyaki chicken, purple rice infused with sesame oil, slightly charred from the kettle hot pot, mixed with the runny yolk from the onsen egg - exactly my kinda Japanese lunch. 😌

A chilled Saturday brunch out with friends saw us at Hatched, but to my disappointment the standards there seemed to have dropped pretty significantly since the last time I was there! I had the Tortilla Espanola which was basically fried eggs sitting atop some roasted potatoes, bell peppers and onions and topped with salsa and 2 slices of plain toast. The eggs were lacking seasoning, the vegetables were cold and the bread slices came plain and tastes meh. Out of all the dishes my friends had, I'd say only the rosti tasted decent!

I just love Dosais I cannot even 😍 I tried the crispy paper-thin dosai at Komala's for the first time and imagine my joy when I first saw the huge rolled up Indian crepe! I had it plain, just dipped in the accompanying daal, but to get it crispy do note that it will definitely be oily than the non-crispy version!

Finallyyy had the chance to visit this vegan burger place after Food King did their review and is Food-King good πŸ˜‹ I went for the Christmas edition of with fried battered portobello as the 'meat' with slaw and kale and lots of truffle umami flavour. Huge portion and big flavours I was a happy kid that day. πŸ˜‡ For something a bit lighter, you can go for the Avocado Beetroot one or the Mushroom one that comes with a soy patty that I find tastes pretty good too! Only wished Veganburg has more outlets in Singapore and perhaps one near me!

Family had our mini NYE celebratory dinner here at Brio in Jurong Point last Sunday (also because it was crowded everywhere and we managed to get seats here πŸ˜…) We shared these among us: Garlic Mussels and Clams, Salted Egg Fish and Chips and Salmon with Aubergine. I'd recommend the mussels appetiser; the fish and chips were normal (although portion was big and I liked the fries) and I find the salmon dry and tad overcooked!

I heard good things about the salad bowls here and it did live up to my expectations πŸ™‚ I opted for the small DIY bowl ($11.90) and I decided to go vegetarian today hence no meat. I liked that the portion of brown rice was generous and it was 100% brown. All components were flavourful and nicely done (and I particularly liked the beetroot hummus!) There was a lot of options to select from (I took a longgg time deciding) and I'll definitely see myself back here!
