I was a little confused because the restaurant name states Soba but what I see and taste is very much like Ramen noodles. 🤔 Nevertheless we were still have much excited to try out this one Michelin star restaurant that was also featured in Buzzfeed's Worth It video. I went for the Shoyu based one because that is always my favourite but there was also Shio (salt) and Miso, and the dry ones. I find the soup incredibly flavourful because of the addition of truffle oil and bits of truffle in the soup base, giving it a umami flavour that may had been missing because it isn't the normal tonkatsu based ramen. However, personally I felt this was something very different, and very unlike the ramen I was used to. Even the cha-siew wasn't the kind that would melt in your mouth, pretty tough. Also, the noodles were on the hard side (and I don't think there was the option to get it softer).

Tried out this Chikuwatei outlet at Holland Village and what's good is that there is a 'Hot' and 'Cold' section of the menu to segregate the sashimi/raw stuff from cooked (great for me because I don't eat sashimi!) Variety was decent in the 'Hot' menu: many starters, don options and meat skewers. I had the Tokyo Katsu ($14) which came with a generous portion of chicken. The Chirashi Don had good reviews too; sashimi slices were thick and fresh! 👍🏻

Selected a Mexican restaurant for my dad's birthday dinner and we ordered corn chips, mixed greens and 3 platters for sharing: Red Snapper with Clams, Chargrilled Angus Steak with Chilli Mayo and Roasted Pork Ribs with Piña Salsa. Despite these falling under the 'family-style for sharing' category in the menu, the portions for these weren't that big. But for me, it was quality over quantity. (However different from my experiences in the States) The dishes were flavourful and the accompanying dipping sauces were great. (The Piña Salsa was definitely an interesting one!) There's a drinks bar within the restaurant as well so it's also a good location for after-work drinks with friends!

For desserts to satisfy that after-dinner sweet tooth cravings, we went to Laurent Bernard Chocolatier. We had the Black Forest Cake, The Trianon and double scoops of Mango Passion and Raspberry sorbet. I enjoy something lighter and less rich so the Black Forest was my preferred choice as there's also the tartness from the fruits that cut through the sweetness. The Trianon was definitely richer and had lots of good reviews from my family as well!

Finally tried out this vegetarian cafe after walking past it so many times! We had the Thunder Tea Rice ($8.50) and Chee Kueh ($5.50). The rice was tasty yet doesn't feel heavily seasoned with flavour so it felt pretty healthy! Each and every component complements and was done well (I found the fried vegetarian ikan bilis really interesting!). I'd recommend this place for those wanting something wholesome and healthy but still filling!

It's been a long time since I've last been to Saveur (I think the last time it was still during my university days). Still remember it as the place for good French cuisine at affordable prices, especially so for a poor student then. 😂

For starters, we shared the Garden Salad and the Truffle Foie Gras. For mains, we ordered the Duck Confit and Seabass. Interestingly, both of us agreed that the star of the mains was actually the potato sides: the mashed potato with gravy and the sautéed potatoes with fried onions. The dessert was a win though: Pistachio Panna Cotta that tasted so much better than it looked. Very rich and strong pistachio flavours that wasn't artificial tasting. Two thumbs up for that dessert! 👍🏻👍🏻

I googled at random a Japanese place (having some Jap-food cravings~) near Orchard and this showed up. It did not disappoint and glad I recommended this for dinner for my colleague and boss!

For sharing, we had the California Maki ($16) and the Aoegoshi (White Fish) Tempura ($20). These appetisers were simple yet well-executed. I really enjoyed the maki simply dipped in soy sauce! (IMO you can already get a sensing of the quality of the food by the quality of their soy sauce 👌🏻)

For mains, I had the Stewed Mackerel ($26) and added on rice, miso soup and pickles for an additional $9. Apart from the tiny bones I had to pick out slowly, the fish was nicely stewed, felt like a very traditional home cooked meal. 🙂🙃

Fridate dinner at Tin Hill Social, just a short walking distance from Sixth Avenue.Thankful for the lovely ambience away from the bustle, a great place to unwind after a long work week.

We shared the Pappadelle Seafood ($33) and Sous Vide Baby Chicken ($33) between two of us, using the 1-1 Entertainer deal. 👍🏻 I really liked the seafood stew, flavourful but yet not too rich and thick, with lots of seafood: there were mussels, clams, prawns, crayfish and squid! For meat lovers, the whole baby chicken should be more than sufficiently filling and the sous vide meat itself was also really tender. Although we didn't have any, you can order drinks from the bar there as well!

Been longing for another brunch date hence here we are. Nothing more satisfying then ordering my favourite usual: Smoked salmon, poached eggs on sourdough. The Pulled Pork Benedict was a slight miss for me though, personally found it too sweet for my liking probably because of the Apple cider hollandaise! Nevertheless, lovely and quiet ambience tucked away in Bukit Timah Plaza, with both indoor and al-fresco dining options available!

It's been awhile since we had family brunch so took the opportunity during the Diwali holidays to revisit an old favourite. Wanted something lighter and healthy hence went for the miso-glazed salmon salad bowl ($15) topped with charred baby corn, broccoli and poached egg. Not to be underestimated though; this meal was light but hearty and filling enough. Generally, the portions here are large, family ordered the Ultimate Breakfast Croissant ($13) and Salmon Eggs Benedict ($16), making it very value-for-money if you ask me!

This portion of Banana Split at the promotion price of $7.50 (otherwise $15.90) is really value-for-money: Banana accompanied with 2 scoops of ice-cream of your choice, a waffle cone, whipped cream, drizzled with chocolate sauce and topped with chopped nuts. Great dessert for sharing amongst a group of 2-3! We chose the vanilla and mango flavour; the vanilla one was really flavourful you can actually see the specks on vanilla bean! There's a good selection of flavours to choose from and some alcoholic options (chocolate rum, rum and raisin) as well!

Set lunches were at $10.90++ and I went for the Spaghetti Arrabiata out of the 3 options and my colleague went for the Chicken Cutlet. There were free flow pumpkin soup and fresh vegetable with vinaigrette salad which you can help yourselves with, as well as the choice of either orange or calamansi juice. The food was decent and the portion was sufficient, no complains based on just how value-for-money this set is! 👍🏻
