Among the 2 tarts featured here, I personally prefer the Banana pudding which lives up to expectations as being listed under one of the ‘Best’ options. Not exactly a pudding here but it comprises of coffee cream cheese encased within a crumbly tart shell and topped with fresh, ripe banana slices. Cream cheese wasn’t too overwhelming and felt more like fresh cream instead, smooth and light, coupled with a lingering aroma of caffeine infused within. Tart shell was also crumbly with a subtle lingering buttery fragrance. On the other hand, the dome chocolate would appeal to the chocoholics with its thick chocolate cream filling that’s decadent albeit sinful, along with a base of chocolate sponge that was a tad too dry for my liking. The chocolate flavoured tart was bittersweet though, providing a good counterbalance to the otherwise saccharine chocolate cream and glaze elements within. Tart shell was also firm albeit crumbly, with a distinct bittersweet cocoa flavour here. Actually came here for the drinks served on an instagrammable flamingo float after seeing @fatgirlsfoodguide ‘s post, but a pity they didn’t have that anymore 😢. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the banana pudding tart and the minimalistic, cozy ambience was a good place to chill in too! ~ .

2 pieces of Belgian liege waffles, along with your choice of double scoop gelato and assorted fruits. One of the better waffles I’ve had in Seoul, with a crisp and caramelised golden brown exterior coupled with soft, fluffy interior that withheld an aromatic and lingering buttery fragrance 👍🏻! Usually not a fan of plain waffles but this was delectably enjoyable in silo without the need for any accompanying condiments. As for the gelato flavours, I opted for Matcha & Yogurt and both scoops were smooth, creamy with a melt-in-the-mouth texture. The matcha gelato came with a distinct earthy note but was subtle and leaned towards the milky flavour profile, hence not for the hardcore matchaholics. On the other hand, the yogurt gelato came with a refreshing tangy note that complements the assorted fruits topping. On a side note, the cozy ambience and vibes here, coupled with free WiFi and charging points makes it a conducive environment for studying and catching up on some work here, which was what I’ve observed among most customers here .

Apart from the usual rice cake and almond flakes, this injeolmi bingsu here has upped its game with the addition of crushed macaron pieces, topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and a whole macaron. Later did I know (and learnt from the natives here) that ‘Injeolmi’ actually stands for ‘rice cake’ and not the roasted soybean powder which we are all familiar with. And so... it’s the bean powder which I have been liking all along 🤭. With its striking resemblance to Kinako (or are they the same?🤔), the bean powder comes with a pleasant, roasted flavour and lingering aroma that never fails to make a good complement to the soft, chewy rice cake (Injeolmi). And not forgetting the snowflake-alike, finely shaved ice that was smooth with an instant melt-in-the mouth texture. Feels like having clouds in the mouth which may also be the reason why it sends one on cloud nine after consuming? 😌😉 On the downside, I didn’t really fancy the macaron pieces which were too chewy and a tad tough for my liking. Would prefer it to be less chewy, more crisp and perhaps less dense in texture. The accompanying vanilla ice cream is smooth, creamy with a pleasant milky flavour and fragrance, coupled with an optional shot of condensed milk for an added milky sweetness, which I would personally prefer to omit it, if not for my mandatory pouring shot! 😅 .

Despite being one of the ‘Best’ items here, this pastry has got to be my least favourite among the 3. Do not get me wrong though, it’s still decently enjoyable with a fluffy, pillowy texture (swipe to view the interior), with an aromatic vanilla fragrance and subtle albeit distinct eggy flavour. Topped with a sharp tip of icing sugar powder, I would highly recommend to share this pastry unless you have a really sweet tooth, or otherwise omit some of that icing sugar.
2️⃣Seaweed fulvescens + Kajime with honey [5000KRW ~> $6]
Also listed under one of the ‘Best’ items here, this surprisingly surpassed expectation and was my favourite among the 3! 💕 Toasted to an ideal crisp, crusty perfection on its golden brown edges, the soft and pillowy interior possessed a pleasant umami flavour, coupled with a subtle tinge of sweetness from the honey infused within. Topped with a thin layer of ‘grass patch’ Kajime seaweed, this savoury toast deserves the Best’ award indeed! 🥇 3️⃣Black soybean scone [5000KRW ~>$6]
Exclusive to the Anguk outlet, my initial skepticism on this forlorn-looking pastry (we got the last piece left btw✌🏻) was warded off as I took a bite of this scone. The seemingly dry and plain-looking pastry was the exact opposite of what I had imagined it to be, coming with a sufficiently moist interior adorned with crisp golden brown edges. Topped with a dollop of black soybean mascarpone cream that was smooth, creamy with a slight grainy mouthfeel from the black beans embedded within, the substantial presence of it was a good complement to the buttery, fragrant scone.
.
On a side note, the palace-theme vibes and ambience of this Anguk outlet is definitely a perfect place for your insta-worthy #ootd here! 🤩 Perhaps you might consider heading over to Bukchon Hanok village that’s in the vicinity and wear a Hanbok while enjoying some scrumptious pastries here? 😉 .

14 April aka. Black Day where Korean singles celebrate by eating Jajangmyeon 🖤. Also a perfect excuse for me to indulge in yet another one of my favourite Korean local cuisine - Jajangmyeon aka. black bean paste noodles served with sliced onions and minced meat. This was in fact one of the better ones I’ve had in Seoul, coming with a pocket-friendly price tag as well, even though the place is famous for their Kalguksu 갈국수 instead. Served with a side of pickles that’s crunchy, refreshing and tangy, this huge bowl of Jajangmyeon here also comes with potato cubes 😍 and tender meat chunks instead of minced, along with sliced onions. The black bean paste sauce was thick, flavourful, without being overwhelmingly salty, coming with a pleasant tinge of umami-sweet flavour. Also good for those who don’t fancy or can’t tolerate spice as Jajangmyeon are typically non-spicy! But as one who adores spice, I added some Chilli flakes to it 🤭. The hand made and hand-pulled noodles here did live up to expectations and was worth the queue, coming with a slight chewy, QQ texture that was pleasant to the bite. Do consume it ASAP though, as otherwise the noodles might turn soggy which did somehow for mine, due to my long phototaking session 😅. Free-flow kimchi are also provided here, to which the greedy me took 2 more servings 🤭. Not sure if it’s just me or the portion of noodles here seems to be really generous that posed as a challenge for me to finish it all, which I did eventually with no regrets 😌 .

Fortunate to have been one of the first few to try this (had this almost about a year ago🤭) and the first to witness a LIVE PLATING in action by @damien_tc xoxo! 🤩 “不苦不收钱” - not bitter matcha no need to pay; thankfully (or not), the matcha flavour here came with a prominent lingering bitter undertone which lived up to my expectations and fondness for intense, bitter and GAO matcha 🍵 . Although this also means I have to pay for it but JUST TAKE MY MONEY luh, 一分钱一分货! Encased within a chocolate flavoured tart shell that was firm, solid and crisp with a lingering buttery fragrance, the matcha ganache filling was thick, creamy with a characteristic earthy flavour that gradually increases in intensity, one that became robust and of course, pleasant and satisfying to my palate! 😋 Surrounding this ‘one eye green monster’ (or perhaps angel to me 😇) are assorted elements that not only contributed to the kaleidoscopic aesthetics but enhances the palatability as well! 😋 Comprising of chewy mochi drizzled with Gula Melaka sauce, blueberries with tangy raspberry sauce, light whipped cream topped with tuille, diced dragonfruit with Gula Melaka and lastly, the most bizarre (or unique) of all - diced mango garnished with chilli flakes! 😱 Spicy mango?!! Yay or nay? Sadly being an anti-mango fan, it’s a nah for me. But after all, the main highlight here has got to be the MATCGA GAO(est) tart which was really impressive!💖 .
.
[PS: Bemyguest will officially ceased operations on 15 April 👋🏻😭😭. Last 2 days remaining to get your hands on the food and homemade pastries here! Calling out to all hardcore, matchaholics out there this tart is definitely a MUST TRY!!! Do rmb to reserve in advance to avoid disappointment too] .

Italian cuisine in Seoul, why not?😉Especially when it’s seoul good that I wouldn’t mind coming back again✌🏻! Hardly would you find pasta in a bread bowl and even though this was a carbs-loaded dish, the word ‘diet’ can be forgone for once just for this pasta bread bowl! 😛 With your choice of Rosa or Cream sauce, I opted for the latter since Rosa is a mix of tomato & cream which I am not a fan of 🍅 . Comprising of sliced mushrooms and broccoli, a meat-free and vegetarian-friendly dish, the spaghetti noodles were done to a slight al dente texture and drenched in a pool of creamy, luscious cream sauce. Highly recommended to share or consume it when you are starving, as the cream sauce can get a tad overwhelming after some time. The bread bowl inevitably turned soggy due to contact with the cream sauce but I certainly do not mind, being a fan of soft > hard bread🤭. Furthermore the cream sauce serves as a great complement to the pillowy and fluffy bread💖. Despite that, the ‘cap’ still remains crisp and crusty! 👍🏻 On the other hand, the Risotto as featured here is served with your choice of Tomato, Rosa or Cream sauce. I chose the Rosa sauce this time round, in the hope to balance off the overwhelming aftermath from the creamy pasta bread bowl but true enough, my loathe for tomato still holds a significant role here, as the characteristic tangy note of tomato was still an unpleasant sensation to my palate 🤭. Do note that it’s just personal preference here, as my dining partner who’s neutral to tomatoes enjoyed this dish greatly. Comprising of shrimps and mushrooms, the risotto is slow cooked to a slight grainy, thick and creamy texture which I adore too! 😋 Prices may not be exactly favourable here but the, generous and filling portion is certainly worth it! ✨.

A plant-based situated in a small alley at Itaewon, serving up meatless meals and vegan cakes made in house which is unfortunately closed every Monday😢. Hence no more ‘Meatless Monday’ but fret not as there’s always Tuesdays, Wednesdays and so on ~! The Jalapeños burger which I’ve tried was pretty impressive, surpassing expectations to which my dining partner couldn’t help singing praises for it. Sandwiched between two soft and fluffy organic buns lies a thick lentil patty, topped with jalapeños, sriracha mayo, vegan chilli , fried onions, along with a base of lettuce and tomato. A distinct, aromatic tinge of spice which came as a pleasant surprise as I was expecting the spiciness to be rather mild instead. The flavourful, creamy sriracha mayo and tangy, crunchy jalapeños were great companions and complements to the chargrilled, ‘juicy’ lentil patty. The burger is also served with crisp potato wedges that comes with a slight chargrilled exterior and a soft, starchy interior - a much better substitute to the usual fries imo, as well as a crunchy side salad in tangy balsamic dressing. On the downside, the mushroom cream pasta paled significantly in comparison. Though the penne was done to an al dente texture, there were only two petite mushroom slices present in the entire bowl of this mushroom soy cream sauce pasta which comes with a thick, creamy and viscous texture. Imo this sauce would have pulled off well if it was made into a soup instead! 😅 .

Unleash the inner child in you as you slowly savour this Cookie Monster dessert cum beverage! 😉 Milky with a hint of chocolatey note, the sweetness was fortunately not cloying here.
말차숲 Matcha [6500KRW ~>$7.80] .
Iced matcha latte topped with a scoop of matcha ice cream, sprinkled with matcha powder, along with white chocolate glazing surrounding the rim of the cup. The iced matcha latte was a tad too sweet for my liking, despite the request for omission of syrup. The ice cream was decent still at least, with a distinctive earthy note. Not for the hardcore matchaholics as this leans towards the milky flavour profile, lacking a characteristic lingering bitter undertone that I would have adored. .
On a side note, I really love the cosy and minimalistic vibes of this cafe thats small yet comfy! Do note that due to limited seatings, you might be required to wait too, hence do avoid weekends / peak hours if you are planning to head down without having to wait for a seat! .

While almost everyone here went for the Strawberry flavour, I was glad that I had chose this Injeolmi flavour, which may not be as aesthetically appealing but was definitely worth the 30 minutes wait, surpassing my expectations! 💕 Till date the BEST soufflé pancakes I’ve ever had in Seoul (@paulinpancake would have been on par if not for my recent disappointing experience with a raw, underbaked pancake😿). Sandwiched between these two soft, fluffy and wobbly soufflé pancakes comes a pleasant surprise of thin mochi layer that carries off a piquant cheesy flavour, a subtle lingering pleasant tings of saltiness that complemented the other sweet elements, coupled with a soft and chewy mouthfeel. Topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, the pancakes are also served with Injeolmi rice cake, cream that’s dusted with roasted soybean (Injeolmi) powder. Usually not a fan of cream but the one here is really light, with a smooth melt-in-the mouth texture, along with a lingering fragrance that made it a compatible companion to the soufflé pancakes. The addition of Injeolmi powder and mochi was a pleasant delight with its aromatic roasted flavour that’s distinctively prominent here and most importantly, the soufflé pancakes was baked to an ideal fluffy perfection, cotton-like and light where consuming one portion all by yourself is no challenge at all, which I think I might even be able to have 3 all by myself for a meal 🤭 .
.
[PS: Long queues is inevitable during weekends, and even on a Friday afternoon I had to queue for 20 minutes. But no regrets though, and there’s even a complimentary cup of hot fruit tea for all queueing customers waiting in line 👍🏻 Do head down early or perhaps on a weekday if you wish to avoid (longer) queues! ✨] .
