Every 初二, our family will have lunch together outside. This year, we chose to have it at Peach Blossoms as we really love the food here! We ordered a mixture of dishes, dim sum and dessert, and were super full at the end🤤. Our favourites were the Mapo Beancurd, Stir-fried Celtuce Stem and Crispy Taro Puff. The Mapo Beancurd was soft and silky🍲, and the sauce was spicy and numbing but not overpowering🌶️. We also loved the different textures in the Stir-fried Celtuce stem with Sakura Ebi, Fresh Lily bulb and stuffed Lotus Root. The Celtuce stem and Lotus Root is crunchy, while the shrimp paste was soft🍤, really good! However, after dining here twice, we did feel that the menu was quite limited as we were running out of dishes that we would like to try😥. But for the delicious food, we'll definitely be back again in the future👍!

📍Burnt Ends, Dempsey📍

Can't believe almost a month has past since we dined at Burnt Ends... 😐 It was tough getting a reservation towards the end of last year, but we were lucky to have scored one! We had an absolutely amazing dining experience. From small plates, main courses, to dessert🍬, the food was exquisitely presented and we loved the combination of flavours. Do try their Blackmores' cube roll🥩...it's THAT good! 😌

📍Beard Papa's, Plaza Singapura📍
💸 Pistachio Cream Puff: $3.80
...
I'm sure we're not the only ones who are attracted to the smell of Beard Papa's freshly baked pastries everytime we walk out of Dhoby Ghaut mrt station👃! Anyways, we were lucky to have tried their pistachio cream puff, their seasonal special for Dec 22, on it's last day😬! We liked that the pistachio cream is smooth, rich and nutty🥜, but we still prefer their original vanilla custard. Nonetheless, it's still a good cream puff🥧! Always love how their cream is freshly piped upon order, which keeps the crust still crispy. It's always generously filled as well, which makes every mouthful super fulfilling and enjoyable😌!

Happy 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣3️⃣! Had our first meal of the year at Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck🦆, a restaurant we've wanted to try for the longest time. Their Peking Duck definitely lives up to its name of one of the best in Singapore👍. The skin is thin, crispy with just the right amount of fat, and the meat is juicy, not dry at all🥩. Having the meat on it's own is good, but we preferred it in the wheat wrap. It tastes refreshing and slightly sweet with the scallions, cucumber🥒 and sauce. Super good! We chose to stir-fry the remaining duck on the bone with ginger and scallion. The gravy was really nice and savoury, we think this would go super well with rice🍚. Overall, the Peking Duck was really delicious. We loved having different ways to enjoy one dish, it made the experience more fun and enjoyable😍!

Piping hot stews are truly the best for a rainy day, so we found ourselves at SBCD Korean Tofu House for dinner today⛈️! The Soontofu in their stew is very soft and silky, and we especially love the one with pork in it🐷! Their other dishes were super good too, especially the Unagi. It's well-seasoned, soft and nicely grilled🐟! The prices here might be slightly high, but the food's really good🍲. And their portions are pretty generous and with free-flow side dishes as well, we're always stuffed at the end😌!

📍Uncle Lee Confectionery, 4 Jln Pisang📍
💸 Nostalgic Buttercream Cake (Vanilla sponge, Peanut): $20
...
After trying their Kaya Cake previously, we had to try their Peanut Vanilla cake, which was also highly raved about🍰. True enough, the cake was super soft, and the peanuts on top were very fragrant🥜. Not too sweet too so it's good for everyone in the family to enjoy. We could be biased, but as we love kaya, we definitely love the Kaya cake more🌚. But our parents preferred the Peanut Buttercream cake, I guess we'll have no choice but to get both next time? 😝

📍Redhill Pork Porridge, Redhill Food Centre📍
💸 Pork Porridge: $3.50
...
What better way to start the morning than with a warm bowl of porridge☺️? The porridge from Redhill Pork Porridge is affordably priced and comes with lots of ingredients like meatball, pork slices and liver🐷. The rice grains were cooked till soft but personally we prefer the smooth silky porridge texture🍚.The meatball and pork slices were yummy, but the liver was slightly undercooked and had blood on it😥. We also felt that the porridge itself was not that flavourful, hence might not brave the long queue again🥣.

📍Fu Ming Cooked Food, Redhill Food Centre📍
💸 Carrot cake (White/Black): $3
...
Woke up early for breakfast at Redhill Food Centre the other day, it was crowded but we were lucky to have found a seat quickly👍. Couldn't decide if we wanted black⚫ or white⚪ carrot cake at Fu Ming so we just got both haha. The carrot cake itself is really soft and not starchy at all, it just disintegrate in your mouth! We liked the black version more, as it flavourful and slightly sweet. The charred bits were really nice too😃. The white version, on the other hand, was nice too but we would've preferred it to be the crispy kind. We felt that the egg given was a bit little too🍳. However, still a nice place for a quick and fuss-free breakfast🌞!
Do you guys prefer White or Black carrot cake☺️?

📍Don Don Donki, Orchard Central📍
💸 Wagyu Kushi: $8.90 for 2 pieces
...
Have always wanted to try Don Don Donki's Wagyu Kushi skewers but it was always sold out whenever we go😟. This time, we finally got lucky! The beef was well-grilled, tender, juicy and super flavourful🥩! It might not be the most affordable food at Donki, but definitely good for those want to have some Wagyu beef without breaking the bank. Absolutely loved it!😍

📍Toast days, 24 Haji Lane📍
💸 Traditional Pandan Waffles (Kaya): $12.80
💸 Kopi C Kosong (Iced): $3.30
...
Visited Toast Days, a relatively new Local cafe that opened in Haji Lane! Perhaps due to its location, the prices were slightly higher than usual😅. We quite enjoyed the Nanyang coffee, which was dark, strong and fragrant☕! The Kaya Waffles however, fell short of our expectations. The Waffles didn't really have a strong pandan flavour, which is what we usually prefer🧇. Also, we felt that the ice cream🍦 that came along with it didn't really go well with the Kaya waffles. When eaten together, you can't really taste the Kaya anymore☹️. However, we did appreciate the generous kaya spread given. Given it's hefty price tag though, we'll much prefer neighbourhood bakeries for waffles! But if you're in Haji Lane and looking for a cafe serving up local snacks, this could be the place for you☺️!

📍No. 1 Western Food, Margaret Drive Hawker Centre📍
💸 Chicken Cutlet: $6.50
…
Once in a while, we love having hawker western food for it's generous portions and old-school taste👍. The Chicken Cutlet here is super huge and crispy🥩, and comes with a generous portion of crinkle-cut fries🍟. Our favourite is definitely their sauce. Unlike the usual black pepper or mushroom sauce, this tastes like a tomato based sauce 🍅. It's a bit tough to describe, but it's reminiscent of the sauce they put on hainanese pork chop, which is sweet and savoury. This has a very old-school taste that reminds us of our childhood memories😌!!

💸 Kaya Cake (8-inch): $28
💸 Custard Puff: $0.60 per pc

Enjoyed our afternoon tea with Uncle Lee Confectionery's Kaya Cake and Custard Puff😍. The smell of pandan hit us the moment we brought the cake out from the fridge, super duper fragrant🤩! The pandan sponge is light and airy, love it with the layers of pandan kaya custard🍰. Be sure to chill it before consumption. The old-school custard puffs were also cheap and delicious, one of the best we've had👏!
