We're so excited Tsukimi Hamburg opened an outlet in the East, giving us an opportunity to finally try it! Their signature Tsukimi Hamburg Don is a very comforting bowl with rice🍚, Hamburg steak, radish, topped with creamy egg yolk🍳. Their Hamburg steak is a mix of US beef, pork and Miyazaki Wagyu beef. We loved that it's thick and juicy, but felt that it has more pork than beef taste🥩. The donburi also came with house-made sauce that tastes like Kombu and bonito. However, we felt that the taste of the sauce was a bit too mild and preferred the brown sauce that comes with other Hamburg steaks usually😅. They have other interesting types of donburis and set meals revolving around Hamburg steak, we'll probably try those the next time😄!

💸 Unadon Double: $14.50

Unatoto is a pretty newly opened fast food Unagi Chain from Japan. Truly lived up to it's "fast food" concept, as the price of Unagi dons are pretty affordable and our food was served quickly🧑🍳. We really enjoyed our Unagi Don with double portion of unagi, as the Unagi was a pretty thick slice, hence really satisfying to eat🍚. It was also soft and nicely grilled with a slight char. Not too sweet as well, and if you want more sauce, they do have different sauces and condiments you can add, hence really customisable🧂! However, having just the Unagi Don was a little one dimensional for us, so we got an Umaki as well for some variety🍳. The egg was really good, soft and fluffy. There wasn't much Unagi rolled it in, think just having the egg itself would suffice as well. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal. The queue can be quite long during mealtimes, but it moves pretty fast. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area and have some time to wait😌!

📍Don Don Donki, Orchard Central📍
💸 Wagyu Kushi: $8.90 for 2 pieces
...
Have always wanted to try Don Don Donki's Wagyu Kushi skewers but it was always sold out whenever we go😟. This time, we finally got lucky! The beef was well-grilled, tender, juicy and super flavourful🥩! It might not be the most affordable food at Donki, but definitely good for those want to have some Wagyu beef without breaking the bank. Absolutely loved it!😍

Discovered a hidden gem in Punggol today which serves affordable Sashimi Dons and Makis😄! Do try the Makis too as they're super good as well. Our favourite was the Soft Shell Crab Maki🦀, which we felt was the best version we ever had! It's well-fried, crunchy and meaty, unlike some soft shell crabs which are too hard and you only can taste the shell😖. These Sashimi Dons and Makis are really a steal at it's price-point so do show them some support if you're in the area🙌!

Discovered a hidden gem in Punggol today which serves affordable Sashimi Dons and Makis😄! The sushi rice was not the best, but the star of the show was definitely the sashimi slices🌟! Super fresh and thick, every mouthful with a dash of wasabi and soy sauce was so satisfying🍣

📍Maruhachi Donburi & Curry, Punggol📍
💸 Pork Katsu Don: $9.80
💸 Pork Fillet Katsu Curry: $10.80
💸 Pork Katsu Set: $11.80
...
Looking for good quality and affordable Japanese food in a hawker setting🤔? Try Maruhachi! Their Pork katsu was an absolute delight to eat, as pork was thick, well-seasoned and not oily at all🥩. Furthermore, it remained crispy even after some time! Really generous portions for the price as well, as we had leftover Pork Katsu even after we finished our rice🍚. Super worth it😋!

Super affordable tempura bowls under $15 and it was so delicious!!🤩 Really enjoyed how light and crispy the batter was. Also, would recommend to get the less rice option so that you can save some stomach for their other sides and ice cream😋

📍Esora, 15 Mohamed Sultan Rd📍
💸 Black Angus Beef: $38
💸 Japanese Pork: $28
💸 Tamagoyaki: $18
💸 Ebi Katsu: $28
💸 Japanese Pudding: $8
...
Couldn't resist getting these Katsu sandos from Esora, especially after we found out that these are specially curated for takeaway during this period and are not available on their usual menu😲. The packaging is super duper cute and unwrapping them almost feels like unwrapping a gift🎁! Tried a variety of pork🐷, beef🐮, ebi🦐 and tamagoyaki sandos. Would have been more enjoyable if the patties retained more of their crispy outer layer, but guess it couldn’t be helped😢 Our favourite though, was the tamagoyaki sando🍳! We loved how eggy, milky, soft and thick it was, which made it super satisfying when we bit into it!
Lastly, rounded up our meal with the Japanese pudding🍮. Chilled it before consuming and it was so so good. Super light and fragrant, not sweet at all with the slightly bitter caramel at the bottom balancing it out. Truly a good end to the meal🙆♀️!

💸Matcha Bavarois

Passed by Misato several times and always wondered why is there a queue outside this restaurant🤔Ordered a ton of food and we have to say everything was so delicious and exquisite looking (really want to own their tableware😍)!! While everything was amazing, what definitely stood out for us was the Okonomiyaki, Ebi Donburi, Cha Soba and the Warabi Mochi🤩 The Okononiyaki was just packed full of crunchy cabbage, you have to eat it piping hot♨️The Cha Soba, may seem simple, but really done right with that beautiful dip. The Misato Ebi Donburi seems quite special topped with oyakodon style runny egg, yums! The perfect ending to our meal was the Warabi Mochi: goma🖤> kinako💛> matcha💚Do try to get there slightly earlier before their opening hours as we got there right before they open for dinner and there was already a queue forming

📍Tonkatsu by ma maison, Mandarin Gallery📍
One of our go-to places for tonkatsu in Singapore, Ma Maison continues to dish out consistent and quality tonkatsu over the years. 💯 Got their famed tonkatsu and it certainly was well-fried, hot, fresh and crispy while the meat remains juicy!🐷 Another highlight for us was definitely the other components of the set meal, such as the pickles, cabbage, miso soup which are refillable!!!🎉 Also love that they serve other types of deep-fried items, which we couldn't resist trying their oyster katsu. Equally crispy and the juices just burst into your mouth when you bite into it!! Served with a slice of lemon that helps to cut through the grease.🍋 Though not the most affordable, but the food quality and refillable side dishes in the set makes up for it if you're feeling hungry!!😌

📍Fat Cow, Camden Medical Centre📍
💸 Fatcow premium donburi (Miyazaki A4 wagyu): $128++ (we used the Entertainer 1-1 deal)
...
Just the look of this decadent wagyu beef donburi and you can tell that Fat Cow is definitely a luxurious treat.👑 It is an ensemble of premium miyazaki A4 wagyu beef, foie gras, uni, caviar, fish roe, onsen egg and truffle flavoured rice. All that goodness in one bowl!🐮 But did it live up to its expectation, especially at its price point?🤔 While the beef was to-die-for, we felt that the balance of the whole donburi was kinda off. There were just too many heavy-tasting elements in the dish, such that we felt jelat after a while...and craved for something lighter on the palette instead.🥴 Overall, Fat cow is great for enjoying good quality beef but should we ever return, we would probably give the donburi a miss or share it with others!😬

📍Sushiro, Tiong Bahru Plaza📍
Ever since we discovered Sushiro, it has become our favourite Sushi restaurant which serves up quality sushi without breaking the bank.😍 The dishes are decently priced, with prices ranging from $2.20++ to $4.80++ per plate depending of the colour of the plate.🔴🟡⚫ We love Sushiro for its freshness of the sashimi slices and its crazy amount of variety. For example, they offer different cuts and quality for the same fish, which allowed us to compare between the more premium and normal cuts.👍 Also, they offer many innovative sushi such as roast pork belly sushi, salmon with basil cheese which were part of our favourites. Some of our other favourites were Japanese jack mackerel (seasonal), Tuna, Fried shrimp & Avocado roll, Young yellowtail and premium grilled eel.🍣 Also, we recommend you to make a reservation before going down as the queue gets pretty crazy. But even if you don't have a reservation, the wait isn't that long as each table only has 1h of dining time.😃
