Tan Yu has recently opened their latest outlet at Waterway Point and exclusive to this outlet is the Grilled Fish with Sauerkraut! The standard of their grilled fish is always consistently yummy, and it’s no different with this new flavour ! It’s fragrant, piquant and flavourful, especially with my favourite limbo fish! This is also suitable for those of you who cannot handle spice well.

We went to The Original Boat Noodle’s Suntec City outlet to try their food recently:

~Boat Noodle (Pathumthani, Ayutthaya 2.0, Creamy Tomyum & Sweet Kuey Chap - $1.80 per bowl): You can choose between beef and chicken for each bowl, as well as your choice of noodle (rice noodle or springy noodle), with each flavour coming with its own other toppings. My favourite ones were the Pathumthani and Creamy Tomyum!

~Kra Pow Chicken Rice ($10.99): This was pretty decent, but would have enjoyed it more if it was spicer.

~Flame Grilled Ayam Legend ($11.99): This was surprisingly yummy! The skin was crispy while the meat was tender and juicy. It went well with the spicy dipping sauce too!

~Phad Thai ($9.99): Would’ve preferred if this came in a seafood version, as our table was covered in a number of chicken dishes already. Quite an average plate of phad Thai.

~Fried Chicken Skin ($4.99): Crispy and addictive! Definitely can’t stop at just one!

~Hot Steamy Sangkayaa ($5.99) / Cha Yen & Cha Keow Yen (both $4.50): These will definitely satisfy those with a sweet tooth! I like the soft bread with the indulgent sangkayaa!

All their outlets are halal-certified, except their Suntec City outlet that is in the midst of procuring its cert. They don’t use pork or lard in any of their dishes.

Wu Wang Guo at Chinatown Point is one of the better hotpot places we’ve visited recently! The tasty soup bases, quality ingredients and attentive service from the staff elevated our dining experience! Best of all, they are open till 3am daily (with 25% off ingredients from 9.30pm onwards!), so you can satisfy your hotpot cravings anytime of the day here!

We chose 4 different soup bases (WWG Collagen Beauty Soup, Spicy Nourish Mala Soup, Vitamin C Tomato Soup & Golden Pig Stomach Soup with Fish Maw), and the Golden Pig Stomach Soup with Fish Maw was my favourite - it was so tasty & comforting, and the pig stomach slices were nice and tender too!

As for their hotpot ingredients, they offer a good variety of fresh seafood, premium meats and more, as well as ready-to-eat dishes for you to choose from! In general, the ingredients we ordered were all satisfying, but the one that really stood out was the Sake Drunken Prawns - the prawns were super fresh and the sweet seafood flavour was nicely enhanced from the alcohol! Definitely a must-order here!

Lastly, I must say the service standard here is excellent! The staff were super friendly and constantly checked back on every table to see if you need any assistance. They even offer to help de-shell prawns for you without asking.

We were over at Mandai Executive Golf Course recently, not to play golf but to have lunch at Golf Spot Cafe & Bistro.

~G-Spot Fountain Cheese Wagyu Beef Burger ($24.90)
~Fusion Aglio Olio Pasta (Prawn) ($12.90)
~Smoked Salmon Avocado Tartare w/ Tortilla Chips ($15.90)
~Wilderness Mushroom Soup w/ Sourdough ($7.90)

The popular dish here is the G-Spot Fountain Cheese Wagyu Beef Burger, and taste-wise it did not disappoint. We felt the addition of the melted cheese really elevated the overall taste of the burger (check out the vid of how the burger is served). However, don’t sleep on the Fusion Aglio Olio Pasta too, as it was really delicious, and we both agreed that this should be the star dish here! Not sure what went into the process of cooking the pasta, but it was so flavourful and full of umami! Highly recommended to order if you’re here! The Smoked Salmon Avocado Tartare w/ Tortilla Chips was a nice light starter to share while the Wilderness Mushroom Soup w/ Sourdough was pretty normal (not much to shout about).

There is no GST or service charge here, and they also have an ongoing weekday set lunch promo as well: 1 Main (selected dishes only), 1 Side & 1 Drink for only $15 nett from 11am to 3pm.

Toast Box has recently launched two limited time specials (Dry Laksa & Butterfly Pea Lemonade) in celebration of their 17th Anniversary! Hurry to your nearest Toast Box because these are only available from now till 31st October 2022.

We felt the Dry Laksa was pretty yummy with a nice ‘lemak’ flavour, although, IMO, the portion size would probably not be filling enough for big eaters. You can choose your preferred choice of noodle: bee hoon, noodles or mee tai bak, which is served together with prawns, fish cakes, beancurd puffs, soft boiled egg, and bean sprouts. As for the Butterfly Pea Lemonade, it was a refreshing thirst quencher to beat the heat! We also got teacakes as part of the bundle set*, and we recommend the Raspberry Vanilla cake!

*The bundle set comes with a Dry Laksa and Butterfly Pea Lemonade complete with a teacake at $9.80 or 2 sets with 2 teacakes at $17 (U.P. $19.60), at all Toast Box outlets except Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa.

We recently discovered a good zi char restaurant Jin Jue Seafood in the Jalan Besar area! Here’s what we had:

~Red Snapper Signature Steamboat ($38)
~Shrimp Paste Chicken ($12)
~Salted Egg Pork Ribs ($18)
~Golden Crispy Tofu ($12)
~Stir Fried Kailan with Dried Scallops ($15)

The main highlight was the Red Snapper Signature Steamboat! The refillable broth was so rich and flavourful, and the fresh red snapper slices are served separately, so you can cook it as and when you want to eat it, and at your preferred doneness too! Other dishes we liked were the Shrimp Paste Chicken (crispy & juicy!), Salted Egg Pork Ribs (tender pork ribs coated in addictive salted egg yolk sauce!) and Stir Fried Kailan with Dried Scallops (first time having kailan cooked this way, and we found it interesting & yummy!).

Overall, I’d definitely recommend a visit to Jin Jue Seafood with your family or friends for a good zi char meal!

Westies rejoice! Tai Er hasofficially opened their 2nd outlet at Jem! Here are the dishes we tried at their pre-opening:

~Suancai & Fish
~Spicy Cereal Prawn
~Griddle Cooked Bullfrog With Chili And Pepper
~Poached Sliced Beef in Hot Chili Oil
~Yummy Steamed Chicken With Chili Sauce
~Seaweed Roll With Salted Egg Yolk
~Egg Coated Glutinous Rice Rolls With Brown Sugar
~Ice Jelly With Coconut Milk
~Sichuan Pepper Milk Tea

They are well-known for their signature Suancai & Fish and I can see why! The broth is so piquant and appetising, while the fish slices are so fresh and flaky! It’s definitely a dish that I would return again for! Other dishes I’d strongly recommend are the Spicy Cereal Prawn (deep-fried till very crispy and you can eat the prawns together with the shell, very addictive!), Griddle Cooked Bullfrog With Chili And Pepper (love the tender bullfrog meat!), and Egg Coated Glutinous Rice Rolls With Brown Sugar (an indulgent treat!). Special mention goes to the Sichuan Pepper Milk Tea too, which I think is a really interesting drink! I felt the combination of Sichuan pepper and milk tea worked surprisingly well! 10/10 would recommend this authentic Chinese Sichuan restaurant!

Tiong Bahru Bakery has recently opened their newest outlet at Punggol Waterway Point. Besides their regular pastries (which I’m a huge fan of!), exclusive to this outlet is their all-day dining menu available from 10am daily!

We had some of the dishes from the exclusive menu like Cluckin' Amazin' Burger (CAB) ($22), Pull My Pork Croffle ($22) and Breakfast Croffle ($22). As I usually prefer stronger flavours for my food, the CAB and Pull My Pork Croffle really appealed to me! The CAB came with a huge-ass piece of crispy & juicy chicken patty, together with creamy gochujang dressing and picked cucumbers, and was so flavourful overall! The Pull My Pork Croffle was even yummier! The Mexican pulled pork went really well with the croissant waffle (which itself had a nice crispy & flaky texture), and when eaten together with the guacamole and sour cream, the flavours went up a notch!

We ended our meal with the indulgent Dessert Croffle ($14) that’s served with vanilla bean ice cream and chocolate sauce.

Tanuki Raw has recently launched their new Blue Burger, exclusively available at their National Design Centre outlet. This burger includes a 250g hand-chopped premium wagyu beef short rib tartare patty that’s lightly seared and seasoned with Tanuki Raw's sianature spice blend, sandwiched between soft and fluffy slow-roasted Yaki Imo Milk Bread, and topped with house pickles and Emmental cheese. If you like your beef on the rarer side, this is definitely the burger for you! It is also served together with a side of Mentai Cheese Waffle Fries that are crispy and savoury! The Blue Burger is available from now till 31 Dec 2022, via pre-order on their website with a 10 days notice.

Finally checked this nasi lemak joint off my to try list! When we reached here, there was only the Ayam Berempah Leg option left so that’s what we got! The fried chicken leg was the star of the show - it was nicely marinated with a fragrant flavour and was pretty juicy too! Also, I love the sambal chilli, so savoury with some spice! I just wished the rice could have been slightly more ‘lemak’ but I guess it’s to balance out all the richness already on the plate. Will definitely be back!

I tried Carl’s Jr.’s limited-time Smokey Brisket Angus Beef Burger recently. This burger, which consists of a thick patty made with 100% Angus Beef, a generous portion of smokey brisket draped with BBQ sauce, and classic smoked American cheese, is freshly made to order, and it was pretty yummy! I liked how juicy the patty was, and the smokiness from the brisket and cheese elevated the overall flavour! You can complete your meal in the form of a combo with their natural-cut fries and a cup of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar.

Oh, and if you’re not aware, their all-you-can-drink Beverage Bar and Salsa Bar are back after a 2-year hiatus. Help yourself to unlimited refills of drinks, as well as condiments like jalapeño and fresh salsa to pair with your burger.

We had dinner at Guriru, a Japanese Hamayaki inspired concept by Chef Teppei Yamashita and Anagram Food Lab last week. We tried a number of food items like charcoal-grilled seafood & meats, pizzas and more!

~Black Tiger Prawn
~Hyogo Oysters (both grilled & raw)
~Guriru Oyster Rice
~Kurobuta Pork Belly
~Meltique Beef
~Whole Squid
~Smoked Duck Pizza
~Fugu Mirin Boshi & Burnt Round Cabbage
~Chocolate & Black Sesame Mochi (will be in menu soon)

We were pretty impressed with the food, with more hits than misses overall. Some of the hits include Black Tiger Prawn (nicely grilled, with the garlic butter adding a good flavour to the prawns!), Raw Oysters (so fresh and succulent, with the ponzu sauce pairing so well with the oysters!), Kurobuta Pork Belly (this was so good, with a lovely melt-in-mouth texture!), Fugu Mirin Boshi (very addictive!) & Smoked Duck Pizza (love the texture of the crust!)! They have some off-menu items here too, like Grilled Yellowtail Fish (which we tried but not pictured) and more, that can be ordered but subject to availability on that day. We also had a preview of their new upcoming mochi dessert, and we liked how smooth and soft the texture was!

Although the location here is a little out of the way, I would recommend a visit here (especially if you drive) for their food, chill poolside dining vibes and great service (shoutout to Cris for her awesome hospitality!).
