My first ever Pao Fan experience, I gave to @shaobbq, and boy was I in for a treat!
We had the large sized Mixed Seafood Pao Fan which they’ve considerately packed in two separate containers: one, a milky seafood broth which I couldn’t get enough of, and two: crispy fried rice, fluffy white rice with an array of seafood (lala, prawns, squid and plump oysters).
This meal ticked all the right boxes for me: texturally crunchy, full of flavour, temperature; still piping hot when we ate and just wholesomely full on comfort.

Velvety texture, generous with their ginkgo nuts, enjoyed the extra touch of fragrance from their addition of osmanthus flowers.
My love for Yam Paste is abundant. This one from SHAO was just a tad too sweet for me, but I would order it again as a sweet end to my SHAO teochew meal.

The Mister’s very own Middle-eastern Izakaya joint along Haji Lane, now delivering to your doorstep during this pandemic. Visually, now that I’ve laid them all out, his food seem to reflect the vibrant colours of the art murals along Haji Lane.
Everything was super yum and my favourites were the:
- Mentaiko Taramasalata Dip, XO, housemade labne, briny sweet tobiko, crispy shallots
- Roasted Brussels Sprouts, banging Kinnogomadare sauce, red cabbage pickles, jalapeños, bonito
- Burrata di puglia, ashtray tomatoes, yuzu, daikon salsa, basil oil
- Stockyard’s angus ribeye 300g, mechoui rubbed, garlic ponzu jus, fresh wombok slaw

The real star of the show goes to those silky thin sheets of chee cheong fan that’s hidden beneath them lobsters.
Oh, and the gravy. Carries the sweetness of seafood, fragrance from fried shallots, garlic and fresh spring onions.
This pairing was truly, (and I seldom ever say this about many things cause I believe there’s always room for improvement) truly perfect.

Amongst the 10 other cafes that opened up in the east within the past six months, @thebrewingground easily reigns as the spot that slings out the best food in my books. Looking straight at you @sebastiansjl @wc1993. They never disappoint.
Like this brunch favourite of mine: generous amounts of creamy burrata sitting on a bed of caramelized onions and toasted sourdough. Finished with some juicy tomatoes, pickles, balsamic for that zing and fragrant basil oil. Excellent option for vegetarians. On occasion, I’ll add up their maple bacon whenever I feel like having some meat.

There’s a half an hour window where the kitchen team takes a pause (so no hot food will be served during this time) between 530pm-6pm to turn from their Day menu to their Night menu, so we decided to have coffee and cake before dinner.
Turned out to be a wonderful decision.
This Honey Yuzu Cake had lovely fluffy layers of sponge and a brave amount of tang, something I find lacking in most other Yuzu cakes. The next time I order this, I won’t be sharing it!

Crisp edges, chewy pancake generously studded with seafood.
Best Seafood PaJeon in Singapore, imo.

Sounds like an odd pairing, but this combination works crazy well together. Helps that the pumpkin sticks were battered and fried till crisp yet still retains its natural sweetness and soft mushy interior before its coated in generous amounts of curry leaves and salted egg paste. I could’ve easily finished the entire serving on my own.

Mechoui spice rubbed Angus Ribeye given a seriously sexy char over the grill. Served with some truffle garlic ponzu jus and a refreshing wombok slaw. Cheers to diving deep into the realm of where Middle-eastern flavours meet Japanese ones. Flavour bombs all the way through.
You know you’re getting the good stuff when it’s the chef’s personal favourite cut of steak.

Over the moon cause they obliged when our table requested for more of that delicious punchy spicy sauce which the salmon sashimi were tossed in. Also very generous with the mounts of Ikura; they added mouthfuls of saline goodness that balanced the fattiness of the fish with every pop. Extra soy sauce served on the side, excellent for folks who prefer an extra touch of savouriness to their food.

Favourite piece awarded to the unassuming eggplant! Lightly caramelized from the frying yet manages to its natural sweetness even with the fish paste sandwiched in between. Most comforting soup base which I thoroughly enjoyed with their housemade chilli that packs a punch.
