[Non-MealPal price $9.90] after a sinful weekend of kway chap and seafood boils, this healthy vegan bowl was perfect for a Monday lunch. the beetroot hummus went well with the quinoa and veggies. Otherwise the ingredients are quite plain. 3/5.
The Cheesy Burger ($10.90 nett) might have also been a case of mismatched expectations. The patty wasn't a whole portobello mushroom like I thought it'd be. It was a minced mushroom kind of patty which couldn't hold itself together because it was not compacted tightly enough. Upon first bite, this already disappointed me. The sweet potato fries were the only respite.
Perhaps I should've ordered the Buddha Bowl ($9.90 nett) which looks better & might taste better.

I'm not really one to eat vegan food, but Soul ALife piqued my curiosity. However, my experience here was less than desired - might have been a case of mismatched expectations? I don't know.
The Mac and Cheese ($7.90 nett) looked great in pictures & reviews - was pleasantly surprised to find this was actually a full portion enough for a meal, not like the appetizer-size that I was expecting.
But upon first bite, I wasn't sure how I felt about it. It didn't have that authentic cheesy feel that I was looking for. A few bites in, I started to regret ordering it. Eventually, my partner & I didn't finish it; we left 1/5 untouched because it was just too salty to handle. Definitely not ordering this again 😔

Healthy, vegan food can taste yummy. I didn’t even notice the fact that there wasn’t any meat in this Buddha Bowl ($9.90) that looked so eye-catching and tasted amazing! With a plethora of ingredients from chickpeas/edamame, tumeric cauliflower, sautéed mushrooms, purple slaw, marinated tofu, quinoa, other grilled vegetables and topped with a huge dollop of beetroot hummus, this bowl kept me satisfied all the way till dinner. So happy that I managed to score this item, which is honestly cheaper than any other similar dish I’ve seen so far.

Thankful for the earlier postings on burpple - I decided to visit this small cafe .
I love supporting small enterprises and our local Singaporeans and it really warms my heart knowing that this cafe is started by a young lady in her 20s. What a brave heart in this highly competitive and rent - killing part of Singapore.
As though that is not enough, serving clean and raw food is also much of an uphill battle. With the likes of “ health food “ joints sprouting up and around everywhere , most are mis- leading the public about healthy eating. Just a few greens tossed in doesn’t make a meal healthy - there is much more to it than that.
Thus, I admire the courage of this young cafe owner.
The Buddha bowl ( why Buddha ?? Hahaha) was ver light and clean on the palate with the beetroot hummus being the star of the dish . It had a good amount of tumeric / cumin spice and was smooth in texture. The other elements in the bowl were ok - roasted potatoes , tumeric cauliflower, purple slaw , cherry tomatoes. An unexpected find were the Asian mushrooms in place of button mushrooms ( perhaps this helps to keep the costs lower).
The Buddha bowl was close to 12 dollars after adding in gst and service charge - a little expensive I would say because it was not as though any of the ingredients were organic.
Also, I see that the mircrowave is used to heat up certain elements of food here - so that might be a deterrent for me because microwave and healthy eating just don’t come together .
There are some raw cakes and gluten free cakes served in the cafe but seeing that there were just lone 1 or 2 pieces displayed - I might come back the next time when there is a fresh batch baked .
The Teriyaki Burger is served with crispy sweet potato fries. The burger patty, which is made from mushroom, really does look like a decent beef patty that you can get from upscale burger joints.
