There are a lot of other stalls bearing their name, but the originator is the hawker at Toa Payoh, with other related stalls run by family or relatives.
.
Hand made and rustic, their fish balls are lightly bouncy with mild salty sweet savoury flavour, and the fish paste stuffed beancurd skin is spongy soft with grainy sweet salty notes.
.
The noodles are softly springy, generously portioned, picking up the savoury spicy sour salty flavours of the gravy nicely.
.
The her giao / fish dumpling is chewy and slippery, with pleasant meaty fishy sweet flavour.
.
The originator usually goes full flavoured, while the related stalls have more balance overall.

Another Song Kee. We went for the homemade fishballs first and were disappointed. They felt like factory-made.
Bought two packets of fishball noodles. Asked if that packet was chilli free and she replied, not chilli then ketchup right! Ask for cut chilli, uncle throw me the plastic bag and gave me the irritated look (mind u it was 3pm and I was the only customer, nobody was behind me so I wasn't holding up the queue) Fine I filled up myself and the soya sauce was dripped on the outside (im not a professional chilli packer) and I used the towel beside to wipe the packet and got scolded.
As I walked away from the stall I realised the food content was so hot that the orange outer plastic bag melted and fused together with the internal plastic that was holding my noodles! I don't know how much the plastic has leached into my noodles.
Anyway i ate the other bag, and no doubt the fishball was good, the noodles was just soaked in lard and chilli oil. It was too oily for me.
Another queue you can find in this hawker centre would be this fishball noodle stall. They also sell otah separately.
I was very excited to see the red color of the chili. Of cos I asked for extra chili. The handmade fish balls, meatballs and fish paste in tofu skin were incredibly delicious. But this bowl was too oily for me. The pork lard just added to the oiliness. The soup tasted very bland.
The noodles were drenched in chilli oil, making it difficult to stomach after a while. The saving grace was the bouncy (handmade!) fishball noodles which were plentiful.
At $3.50 for a bowl, it was expected that the noodle portion be less than satisfactory. Still a bit of a let down though.
