Itās such a pleasant experience with Rakuya. Itās like a 8+2 course omakase set! We started with pufferfish strips in ponzu sauce as appetizer. Itās chewy and citrusy, definitely whetting up your appetite for the remaining courses.
After which was the premium sashimi platter. Loved their choice of sashimi so much and each of them comes in thick succulent cut. Thereās a variety of tuna, sea bream, otoro, chutoro, sweet prawns, swordfish, yellowtail and japanese silver needlefish. My favorites has got to go to the chutoro, full fat tuna that has such a creamy and melt in your mouth texture.
Next up was their chawamushi served with coriander broth. Thereās no traces of pungent-ness of the coriander, instead it was rather clean tasting and fragrance. It makes you feel as though youāre drinking a soup but youāre actually eating a spoonful of smooth silky steam egg!
Followed by pufferfish base nabe. I love how they served up pufferfish in so many different ways! We then had a sushi platter when they have pre-paired it with condiments and seasoning that goes so well in flavors. Some of the sushi includes the surf clam, sea bream, the prawn and the flounder. Some of the seasoning includes truffle and miso.
Before our dessert we had maguro mixed rice topped with uni, caviar and ikura. At the side served with snow crab miso soup. While our desserts consist of the Japanese melon, mochi with rockmelon filling and a black sesame paste. The melon is so sweeet tasting and the texture is of soft-crunchy. The sweetness balances out well with the black sesame paste. Itās so good!
This is a small cosy place with soso food and ok experience. Used 1for1 with the entertainer app .
The cooked dish was served pork instead of beef due to dietary requirements, the pork was the toughest meat i ever had . However i like to state that the do have items that i find was decent , like the cooked fish & the truffle noodles with pork rib . Without the 1for1 i would not return again .
Value set lunch at Rakuya - All sets come with rice, fruit and chawanmushi. Great quality and affordable sashimi set. Weāre planning to return for their omakase!!
And always miso cod. Or miso everything. Think itās better than Har-Cheong-Gai-everything or salted-egg-everything or matcha-everything. Not into food trends, only into good food.
Donāt believe everything nice you see online; we found out the hard way. Having read good things about their previous offerings, we expected bold, inventive dishes in the same vein, but boy were we sorely disappointed. Gone were the much raved Foie Gras Chawanmushi, the āCurry Puffā with seaweed tempura, and even the Bak Kut Teh Udon. Hereās what we had:
-Escargot and pickles -Salmon Carpaccio with Ponzu and Truffle Oil (ok quite tasty)
-Chawanmushi with Ikura (???)
-Minced Meat with pumpkin and eggplant (minced meat, really?)
-Thai-spiced Pork Neck Skewer
(not that tender or well-marinated)
-Hand-roll with a piece of salmon
(Iām not even bothering with a photo) -Light Dashi with Minced Chicken (they werenāt joking about lightāit was really bland, the chicken too)
-Yuzu Sorbet with Coconut cream (a small saving grace, this worked nicely)
What did we just pay for? None of the 8 dishes were worth $6. Where was the promised invention? Compared to the dishes from just over two months ago (see the @eatbooksg review) the ones we had were just boring and tasted mediocre, even for its $48 price tag. If you arenāt invited to a tasting, take your money and go elsewhere. āCheap Omakaseā always felt like an oxymoron to me, and on such a showing, seems like Iām still right. @rakuya.sg

Using Inaniwa udon, the broth is a cross between the herbal and peppery bak kut teh. It even comes with a piece of Kurobuta baby back ribs that has been cooked to tender, falling off the bone with ease. This is probably the most expensive bak kut teh I have eaten, topped with edible gold leaf.
