Heard alot about the Chinese food here at @myorestobar and had a chance to try a variety of their dishes 😍 I must say that overall, the food quality here is really good and definitely fit for family meals and gatherings! Here are my favourites:
The Kia Hiang Claypot Spring Chicken ($26) is their speciality and I can see why. The chicken itself was incredibly tender and all drenched in a sweet savoury sauce that had a deep herbal flavour as well. The cabbage is cooked till really soft as well. Really comforting dish I don't mind having again.
Garoupa Fillet in Claypot with Garlic and Ginger ($22/30/38) - this dish was kept very simple, yet incredibly well executed. The fish slices had a firm bite and were tender; they were lightly seasoned by the sauce which had simple garlic and ginger flavours. Once again another comforting dish.
Crispy Yam Bag with Scallops ($5.50 each) - yes they may be expensive but once again this is one dish executed well. Really crispy exterior with soft creamy yam paste and snappy scallop, the contrast in texture was well appreciated.
It can be quite pricey, but still, a solid place to bring your family for celebratory meals!
Another must-order is the dessert, their Young Coconut steamed with Peach Gum and Egg White ($9.00). Served in its husk, the cold version was the perfect sweet finale as the coconut egg white pudding was surprisingly fragrant and moreish. The combination was not overly saccharine or heavy. You have to love the velvety texture of the steamed egg white too! The jelly-like Peach Gum was the icing on the cake and added a refreshing touch.
We had the Grilled Miyazaki A5 Wagyu ($45 per 100gm) too as part of the set which didn’t look like much at first (at the initial glance seemed dry and well-done) but was super tender and succulent. Thinly sliced, the protein wasn’t too lean and had a pleasant beefy flavour (great even without the sauce on the side).
Discovered a new family favourite at Myo Restobar, where the star of the show was their signature Kia Hiang Claypot Spring Chicken ($25). The hunky (70g) chicken dish arrived enveloped in caramelised cabbage, generously drenched in a rich herbal sauce. Fall off the bone tender, the deliciously succulent chicken was so nicely seasoned. The savoury sauce was also bangin’ and lip-smacking - very good with a steaming bowl of rice, truly the highlight at the lunch table.

The first year we dine out for the reunion meal after the demise of my 大姨 and we miss her presence on such occasions. I have take it upon me to celebrate when my 干妈 and 姨姨 for the many remaining years I can. This year we visit a more casual family fare restobar recommended to me many year ago.
I reckon that MYO prides itself in comforting Chinese fare; the highlights of our set menu were the Lou Hei, Wagyu beef and claypot Garoupa. I prefer Lou Hei with fish but the abalone was cooked softly to complement the fresh platter of fibre and carbs with a house-made fruit sauce. Then the premium and well executed wagyu beef and fish gives you the bang for your buck in this set menu.
Another comforting dish was the signature MYO claypot chicken that had braised soft chicken meat and cabbage soaked in a glistening starched broth. Excellent with plain carbs, but not too salty on its own too.
My only gripe were the slightly tough abalone on the siew mai, and pork ribs in the other dishes we had.
A friend who frequents said we shouldn’t leave without trying the coconut milk dessert here, she was right for the husk of edible delicious coconut flesh had a Hokkaido milk based pudding with peach gum that would be a great conclusion to any meal here.
