It’s been ages since our last visit to West Mall and we were glad to discover many new eateries at basement 1 after the major renovation. 🤍

We popped by Gochiya to try their Weekday Lunch Promo, featuring Chestnut Collar Set and Hamburg & Chicken Set. Served on individual hot plates, we got to turn up the heat ourselves and let the meats sizzle right at the table. 🤩 Each set came with silky ikura chawanmushi, steamy hot Kama cooked rice, medley of roasted vegetables and a choice between mushroom cream sauce or black pepper sauce.

I’m happy to report that the pork collar, hamburg and chicken chop were cooked just right — tender, juicy, and full of flavour, despite my novice cooking skills. And the best part? The variety of condiments! I happily sprinkled lots of pink Himalayan salt on all my meats and vegetables! 😉

Yippee! 🥳 Christmas came early at home this year with this delightful log cake from Balmoral Bakery. Soft vanilla sponge coated in thick, old-school buttercream. And just look at those adorable classic ornaments — tiny Santa, reindeer 🦌, cute pine tree 🌲 and a meringue mushroom 🍄 perched right on the log 🪵. Nothing like a little vintage charm to kick off the festive season. ⭐️

Craving some Teochew porridge tonight? 🥣 We visited Heng Long Teochew Porridge outlet at Clementi for some simple comforts that we have missed for a while like braise meat, steamed meat to accompany with a bowl of Teochew muay [a.k.a. porridge] and in my case, an extra bowl of rice 🍚 to fill me up a little more.

Nothing fancy, just plain satisfying, hearty and delicious. We’re already looking forward to our next visit! 😋

My folks absolutely love curry fish head, so as the weather turns cooler 🌦️ we decided it was the perfect time to treat ourselves. Their red snapper fish head comes served over a lighted warmer that keeps the thick, fragrant curry gravy hot & happily bubbling. The pot is loaded with tomatoes, long beans, eggplant and tender, meaty fish to soak up that amazing gravy. 😋

Just discovered a hearty and affordable gem — quality NZ sirloin steak for only $16! 🤩 Perfectly seared to a juicy medium-rare, tender, smoky and topped with a homemade butter herb that I’d never expect to find in a coffee-shop setting. And that fat cap — Rich, buttery. melt-in-your-mouth perfection. I’m still thinking about it. 🥩🤤

Say hello to these succulent, charred satay sticks — complete with those glorious little bits of sweet fat tucked in between the meat, from one of Clementi Central’s most beloved stalls. 🤤

Couldn’t help but take a little trip down memory lane today — back to those weekends when my folks would bring us to the old Satay Club at the Esplanade. Nothing hits quite like nostalgic comfort food like these.

Fast-forward to today… I may or may not be battling a serious food coma after stuffing myself silly. Time to unwind and drift into a well-earned snooze. 😴💤

Okay…… confession time. 😅 We are definitely late to the hype on these dumplings and wontons — mostly because I have always been hesitant about mainland-style food. But watching the staff hand-wrap each dumpling and wonton right behind the counter was way too tempting to resist.

The freshly made shrimp and vegetable pork filling was absolutely scrumptious! Generously packed, bouncy and that shrimp-and-black-fungus crunch. The pork was clean-tasting with zero porky smell.
Warm, comforting and clearly made with care. Consider me officially converted. 💛🥟✨

Headed to Hawker’s Street outlet at The Clementi Mall which brings together a collection of famous hawker gems. It was buzzing during mealtime, but totally worth the wait because I managed to enjoy three amazing dishes in one go!
