Comfort Grub 🥓
Two favourites out of From Mama Africa items we tried. I really liked the complexity the smoked fish added into former, while I loved the brightness of the goat curry thanks to the lemon’s acidity.
I love roasting cauliflower as it brings out its natural nuttiness. Loved that chef took this till the florets’ edges are browned and crisped up. Pair that with a creamy avo salsa and tangy slaw and you have this mouth-watering number!
The same lovely pork that they use for the kolo mee coupled with sweet, juicy pineapples and crunchy apple celery between fluffy buns. Yumyum!
Well-cooked chicken breast fillet with the works: blt + guac and cheddar. Flavour and texture-packed stack, perfect for non-beef eaters.
I really, really liked this, but I will not queue for it if there’s more than 10 people in front of me (with 10 minutes to go for the next batch) — so far, the queue during weekdays between 2-5pm for this outlet seem most bearable.
It’s an exceptionally good sweet potato, especially with the caramelised blistered edges. I usually eat sweet potato with butter and honey (or almond butter), so I tried this with and without, but it’s so good even on its own (especially when it’s warm)!
If you’re coming with at least two other friends, the Dumpling Platter of 15 ($20) is a good way to try more flavours, plus it’ll give you more bang for your buck. You get three each of The Original, Veggie Mandu, Momo Curry, Fried Pierogi and Smoked Duck.
Umami bomb enhanced with caramelised leek, shiitake and hoisin mustard with the filling. Comes drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette for balance.
Also available as part of the Dumpling Platter ($20 for 15).
Hard to go wrong with this classic pork and napa cabbage potstickers. I’m a sucker for ginger and black vinegar so this was one of my favourites.

Just like the pierogis, I would have preferred a slightly thicker and chewier dough. While I was hoping that it was kimchi-based initially, I did like that there wasn’t too much gochujang that could easily overpower the flavours of spinach, tofu, shiitake and pickles. It’s tasty even without the garlic aioli!
Also available as part of the Dumpling Platter ($20 for 15).
Parcels of minced pork and charred cauliflower flavoured with curry spices atop labneh. I wish the charred taste was more prominent and expected more moisture with the cauliflower in the picture, but the latter is easily fixed with a good smear of labneh.
Also available as part of the Dumpling Platter ($20 for 15).
Enjoyed the straightforward cheesy combination with gorgonzola, tallegio, scarmoza and mozzarella over the salmon pizza. They don't put too much blue cheese, so don't worry if you're not too fond of the funk. They make their thin crust in-house and I liked that it wasn't too doughy.
If you're looking for something less indulgent, opt for the latter with mesclun, smoked salmon and shaved Parmesan.
The YTF stall is usually my default choice here, but we only noticed recently that the soup stall is run by Aher. Looks like making a beeline for their hearty soups will be my reprogrammed auto-pilot routine here!
