Served right out of the fryer, these smelt so good that we couldn't resist grabbing them right away though they were burning our fingers. I've not had that many Korean fried chickens to compare, but this was yum yum yum! They were seasoned well, fried to crisp yet still remaining juicy and tender inside. The fried skin was so addictive that my mum kept sneakily grabbing them off pieces in the basket even though she was full. You can also get the half (4 pieces) at $20 or top up $10 for the whole (8 pieces). Other flavors include Sweet & Spicy ($25/$35), Garlic Soy Sauce ($25/$35), Sliced Green Onion with Mustard Sauce ($25/$40).

Left this small little shop smelling like walking tempuras but still so, so satisfied. You can expect chicken fillets, long beans, mushrooms, pumpkin, prawns, eggplant and my favorite, a fried onsen egg all in this one bowl. Though all fried, these were surprisingly light and not the jerlat kind of oily. Folding the oozing yolk in the rice drizzled with tendon sauce was the best part. A really value for money bowl served with silky smooth chawanmushi, hot miso soup and free flow pickled vegetables. This will surely fill you up! Their green tea was pricey at $3.80, so stick to plain water if you want to save the moolah. Dinner service starts at 5.30pm but the queue began as early as 5pm. Remember to bring your cash along as they don't accept nets or cards!

Former head chef of Crystal Jade and man behind CJ's wanton mee, Master Tang previously had a stall in Chinatown but is now here in Sixth Avenue! Prices are super affordable - $3.50 Wanton Noodle, $3.50 Wanton Soup, $5 Pork Knuckle Noodle and $6 Beef Tendon Stewed Beef Brisket Noodle, etc. My Wanton Noodle had al-dente springy egg noodles, fresh juicy wantons and not forgetting the CJ lookalike plus tastealike chili. Though I would have liked a more flavorful soup, it was still a satisfying plate of noodles so similar to CJ's! At this price? I'm so coming back!

I started eating pig livers only quite recently, after being encouraged to try it during a bak kut teh meal. I got hooked! This was my first time trying them being cooked in this manner and I know I will be coming back. Livers overcooked are the worst but Keng Eng Kee did it like a pro. The texture was just right and the braised sauce is another part worth mentioning - so robust, flavorful and perfect with rice!

Had this at about 3+pm after class and the queue was still going strong. When I was waiting to collect my bowl, there were just 3 bowls left to being sold out. (Phew I got there in time!) It's not hard to understand why really. Handmade fishballs and fish cakes were bouncy, q and firm to the bite. The noodles tossed in pork lard and sambal chili were springy and so tasty. They have the choice of Yong Tau Foo too, with each piece at 50 cents for NUS staff and students, 60 cents for public. I know where to eat the next time I'm in Utown!

I'm a fan of tonkotsu based soups but decided to try this since it's Sanpoutei's signature! Have you ever experienced while eating, that you already know you would crave for this same dish a few weeks or days later? THIS WAS THAT FOR ME. The soup base is made from boiling a combination of chicken, vegetables, tonkotsu, dried sardine and etc. for 6 hours. Don't be deceived by the clear soup because it was flavorful and intense, in a good way. The thick cha shu melted immediately in the mouth. It was tasty but might be too oily for some. Ramen noodles were flat, thick and springy. I'll definitely be back when the craving comes (and I foresee that to be very soon)!

I've never tried any durian desserts similar to this. The mousse was milky, thick and creamy with a nice icy crunch and texture to it. A generous scoop of durian puree tops it all off! Once you have your first bite, it's quite hard to stop and a bowl for each person is definitely easy. It was also surprisingly refreshing with a good balance of flavors, preventing it to fall into being too jerlat. I usually avoid ordering durian desserts for fear of the artificial flavorings used but this was good and authentic. Lovers of durians should try this!

Another star dish of the restaurant that you will find sitting on most tables, this oyster omelette is definitely different from the rest you've tried! I love this dish for its super crispy omelette with a sweet tasting chili sauce that compliments it so well. Oysters were fresh and juicy. It's funny how everyone was grabbing the crispy parts instead of the oyster and the small portion was surely insufficient! But if you're not a fan of crispy oyster omelette, then this is something you should steer clear. If not, dig in!!!

Finally back in Singapore and this was that one dish I craved soooooo badly!!! I should probably create the geotag for this place. With the downtown line opening, Bugis is 15 minutes away from my house and that means? That means MORE Suan La Fen in my tummy! Woohoo! Thick sweet potato noodles are chewy and q, soup is addictive, generous portion of vegetables, and even without much ingredients, this is that one bowl that keeps me coming back. Top ups for meats and other ingredients are available along with customizable level of spiciness.

Thick yet amazingly fluffy pancakes (no artificial rising agents used, only wild yeast!) with a sunny side up in between, candied bacon on the top and crispy grilled cheese surrounding the bottom. Just tell me, HOW DOES THAT NOT SOUND GOOD? Plus! Not forgetting a generous amount of maple syrup drizzled all over. This guys, is a perfect example of how savory and sweet can work well together. Portion looks small but surprisingly filling. Maple syrup was quite sweet for me but requesting it to be served separately should solve the problem. This is served till 6pm but I missed it on my first visit at 3pm. Go early for a satisfying sinful breakfast with thumbs up service!

When in doubt, go chocolate. What chocolate? Awfully Chocolate! Mad love for the hei ice cream and same goes to the All Chocolate cake - dark chocolate cake with dark chocolate fudge. Love how it's mildly sweet but so dense and so chocolate-y. No scrimping on any chocolate here and sends you right into chocolate heaven.
