Tucked away in a corner of Far East Plaza is Hong Hu Express, a small and cosy store that specializes in noodles🍜 and dumplings. Loved their generous portion of Ban mian with vegetables🥬, minced meat, mushroom and egg🍳. The noodles had a good bite and the soup was delicious, really yummy and affordable! The Pan-fried dumplings, though a little oily, was crispy, juicy and had a good amount of filling in it🥟. A must-order to go along with your noodles😋!
At just $5.50 for the Dumpling Noodle, you can hardly find such prices with such portion anymore in the Orchard Road area. The noodles can be cooked till too soft so do request it to be cooked shorter so that it still retains the al dente bite. The soup is nicely balanced with the right umami notes, but the star has got to be the big bulbous dumplings that contain a chive and meat filling. The Zha Jiang Mian ($5) also comes with a sizeable portion with a savoury meat sauce. We also saw several tables ordering the pan-fried dumplings and tom yum soup which are two things we will order to try the next time when we are back.

Went around to try somewhere new (to me) for lunch — Hong Hu Express serves U-Mian and Ban Mian along with fish soup for hungry office folks in the area. The dry ramen came with minced meat, fried Wanton skins and a good amount of chili for those who opt for it — the noodles were somewhat slurpy and chewy, while laced in a chili that was more vinegary than spicy. The wanton skin comes a little hard; could have be more crisp than its current form that was crunchy. Also come switch two Fuzhou fishballs; bouncy and filled with meat for a good bite as well as strips of cucumbers that gives a crunch. An affordable option for those working in be area no doubt.
The perfect lunch, but not when you're wearing a light-coloured shirt. Potential disaster aside, the great balance of the spicy and sour notes in this bowl is executed flawlessly. Also, not only are the strands of noodles silky smooth, they're not overly done as well and still have a firm bite throughout. Ok, that's all.
Found a delish bowl of You Mian hidden on the 4th floor of Far East Plaza to cure my insane craving for this savoury bowl of noodles. Tasted of anchovies, minced meat and fried onions, the soup base was fragrant and not overly salty (which is a major plus because you can finish drinking all the soup!). The texture of the noodles here is worth a mention, for its QQ springy texture. Oh, and the Chilli they serve on the side just goes so damn well with all the savoury ingredients in that bowl. Almost ordered another bowl because I just couldn't get enough.
Well-crisped on the outside and juicy on the inside!
