[ROCHOR, SINGAPORE] Found yet another Korean restaurant that makes me wanna come back for more 😍
I believe @gagahoho_sg is known for their unique Kimchi, that is very unlike the ones served in other establishments. The cabbage slices are much larger, and they were very fresh and crisp. The seasoning on the kimchi can be quite heavy on the fermented shrimp, but it's perfect with some rice. Give me that with rice and I think it's a meal already 🤭
For the recent rainy weather, their Seoul Beef Soup ($15.90) is lovely, due to its comforting beef broth. Meat slices were tender, though we wished it was slightly thicker. Do note that you need to salt the broth yourself!
Their Boiled Pork Slices ($36) are a must have to share, as it's so tender and flavourful, all without the pork odour. Pair this with their condiments and a vegetable wrap and you get a satisfying bite!
Last but not least, their Squid Leek Pancake ($19) is another must order. Crispy and savoury with a heavy seafood flavour, the pancakes were so rich and addictive especially with the crispy bits on top! It can be quite heavy so it's best to share 🤣
With a focused menu, no GST and quality food, I can't wait for my next visit here again!
We were told if we added too much salt, they could add soup for us to balance it out. Halfway through, we enquired if we could get a bit more soup & were told "其实我们这里是不可以加汤的" ("actually you can't just add soup like that")..... So I guess there's a pro-tip for you right there. Add a lot of salt at the start, if you want more soup? 🤷🏻♀️ Seems like it's a matter of principle... There's a first time for everything, I suppose.
In all, a confusing experience & I didn't particularly enjoy the food. The fresh kimchi was pretty good, but that's not enough to make me want to return.
Was looking forward to having some Ox Bone Soup here, per their namesake, but instead was disappointed this didn't feature on their menu.
Ordered 2 soups - Seoul Beef Soup & Half Chicken Soup ($15.90+ each), as I thought in similar fashion, the soups would be good..... They weren't, IMHO. They were very bland. Granted, these soups are made without MSG & you are advised to add your own salt & pepper table-side, but they were overall very lacklustre.
Reasonably tender, mild pork umami. Quite a decent version, except that it's not very seasoned at all because it's meant to go with condiments
One of the best bulgogis. Pork was reasonably tender, and very well seasoned. It's intense and the generous spring onions added to the aroma
Lovely version. It's quite funny how their pork items are (allegedly) better than their beef
The super crunchy fresh style. It's a decent version for this style, on the milder side
