i can’t believe this is my first kouign amann ($4.50~) experience……but omg it was heavenly!!! the croissant part was crisp, flaky and the sweetness of the ?sugar paired so well with it. it reminds me a bit of the big flat flaky biscuits in french bakeries (iykwim). we also got the almond croissant (~$6) with a sweetened almond paste inside and again the croissant was 🤌🤌 the bakes were waaay more filling than i had expected lol but very happy that it didn’t feel too greasy :-) i recommend sharing these goodies tho bc portions were q big and can get a bit jelat. otherwise service was commendable - the ppl were rly nice :-) my only qualm is that it’s rather pricey.

[Verdict: Terryfic 👍🏻] I dare say you can’t go wrong with the Kouign Amann from @tiongbahrubakery. They are apparently the first (or one of the first) to bring in this sinfully delicious Brittany viennoiserie onto Singapore’s shores. If you haven’t already tried this, please do.

It’s a huge piece and it’s so good that you’ll finish it all. Don’t count the calories or sugar in it to prevent a shock-induced heart attack. Quite a good deal for $5++.

Why is it sinful?

Copious amounts of sugar is sprinkled between many layers of laminated dough made with quality French butter. That same dough is then swirled to give its distinct appearance.

The end result is a crispy, flaky exterior that’s coated with caramelised sugar. On the inside, it’s fragrant, soft and buttery.

If you’re wondering why it can be a bit salty within the crispy pastry, that’s because salt is one of the key ingredients.

Super shiok. The girlfriend described it best - it's the bom prata in an angmoh country.

The kouign amann had a crispy buttery texture and caramelised sugar glaze while bits of bak kwa and white sesame added a nice touch of savoury and nutty flavour

Highly recommended!

The kouign amann is SO GOOD. Buttery, sugary, with crispy sides and a moist chewy centre! Surprisingly the green tea almond croissant paled in comparison. The raisin danish tasted more like a brioche than a puff pastry. I’m rly excited to try their other selections soon!! 🤩

Tiong Bahru Bakery is not exactly the most affordable place to grab desserts, but it’s one of the spots that consistently serves quality pastries.

The Kouign Amann is a must-have, in my opinion. It looks so simple but it’s so buttery and flakey. 🤩 And the caramelized exterior makes it so crispy. Yumz! It’s on the sweet side though so it might not be for everyone, but it’ll go well with a cup of tea / coffee :)

The croissants here are also delicious. Have tried a few different flavours (matcha, almond etc) and they’re all yummy. So far I haven’t had any misses here!

A perfect light lunch after eating a heavy breakfast — Munching on this flaky layered croissant 🥐 sandwich filled with gruyere cheese and sliced ham that is pre-made and heated up, upon ordering (that explain the slightly browned ham). #burpple #burpplesg #stfoodtrending #sgfood #sgeats #foodsg #wheretoeatsg #whattoeatsg #tiongbahrubakery #rafflescityshoppingcentre

Delicious food at an affordable price. My usual favourite - kouign Amann! Look at those golden brown buttery caramelised crispy layers! Had the hot chocolate too to make it a full late afternoon meal~ ☕ #shopbackgo #burpple #burpplesg #food #foodiesg #sgfoodie #whati8today #8dayseat #vscofoodie #iweeklyfood #foodporn #foodstagram #vscofood #foodphotography #sgmakan #sgmakandiary #sgfoodstagram #singaporeeats #exploresingaporeeats #exploresg #whatsgoodhere #sgfoodie

The second sweet treat that we always go for in TBB is Kouign Amann. For those who have it first time, the pastry is baked until it achieves the crunchy exterior (might be too ignorant for us to say that it is like a roti curling up in circle or caramelised croissant).🤐 Known as the fattiest pastry in Europe but somehow TBB manages to make us forget about this fact. We would prefer if they give us a bigger plate for better sharing.👌
P.S. this Raffles City always impress us with indoor dining whenever we bring visitors.🙏
