Gave this a go while exploring JB and it was pretty decent. Chicken’s got that crispy skin and comes drenched in a thick soy sauce that’s sweet, savoury and a little sticky. Rice was surprisingly fragrant.
Chili’s more tangy than spicy and the soup is your usual light broth that has nothing to shout about but it rounds out the meal. Portion’s generous and the stall has got that classic JB hawker vibe.
I wouldn’t travel again just for this but if I’m nearby and hungry, I wouldn’t mind having it again 》RM12
Back for my seafood fix! Sambal sweet potato leaf with that smoky kick, juicy salt-grilled crayfish, fragrant ginger scallion clams and sambal noodles. Rustic banana leaf feast that never fails to comfort.
[JB, MALAYSIA] If you like your spice and your seafood, this is really one place you need to go in JB. We ate so much and yet only spent about $15 a person! Food was absolutely delicious as well 😍
Everything was cooked on a banana leaf, which really alleviated their flavours. Their Sambal Stingray came in a huge generous portion (in fact we got 2 plates of this size) and it was meaty and perfect with their homemade sweet and savoury sambal. Everyone attacked the dish so fast and it got devoured very quickly!
Even if you don't take spice, their Salted Egg Prawns are pretty fantastic as well. The sauce was so rich and full of umami that we had to scoop every drop of it into our rice! The prawns themselves were very meaty and pretty huge. The only downside was that it was not cooked in the sauce for long, so the salted egg flavour did not penetrate the prawns.
Vegetables are needed for every meal 😂 and Sambal Kang Kong was one of the best renditions I've had. Crunchy fresh stalks were well coated with their sambal, which did not have too much heat but the shrimp umami flavours came out strongly. Absolutely delicious!
Both the Sambal Sotong and Otah we ordered were good as well, with the Sotong being very bouncy and not hard, and the Otah having loads of fish meat within.
Finally, as for the carbs, they offer Seafood Mee Goreng which was pretty splendid. With a sweet and savoury base, the noodles were stir fried very well and remained rather al dente. Although there was no wok hei present, it was still very tasty and we cleared it up quickly too!
The total bill was about RM300 which was really affordable for 6 people considering the amount of seafood we ate. Do expect queues and a waiting time of about an hour during peak timings!
Generic yellow noodles coated in savoury mee rebus gravy, garnished with green chilli, scallion, parsley, and fried crisps. While the alkaline taste of the noodles was a bit strong, the gravy couldn't quite mask it, rendering the overall dish average. We had better ones elsewhere like Mee Rebus House.
Absolutely delicious! Among the three dishes we tried, this stood out as the best. Dense, mushy compressed rice served with sambal goreng, sambal chicken, and serunding. The tender chicken coated in sweet and spicy sambal was a delightful pairing with the lontong. Highly recommended! You can also opt for rendang or kicap style for the meat.
Although the location is a bit hidden from the main streets of JB, but this place is constantly packed with people during lunch peak hours.
Only one item available on the menu, it is their signature soy sauce chicken that grilled perfectly before serving to your plate of rice. Accompanied by some veggies.
Queue is usually formed outside the shop, with everyone waiting patiently for the table availability. The wait is totally worth it for a piece of juicy grilled chicken.
Although they would get your order at your table and serve the chicken rice to you. But you have to self-service with the soy sauce, chilli sauce and soup from the counter inside the shop.
So next time you are here in JB, perhaps this is a good chance to try something the locals like.
Mee Rebus Biasa (RM 8.90) consists of blanched yellow noodles served with delicious thick gravy, a boiled egg on the side, garnished with fried onion, green chili, Chinese parsley, crispy keropok, and lime. The gravy amazed me once again – thick, savoury, and sweet, with the fritters adding a lovely texture to the dish. The Burpple Beyond deal for a complimentary Mee Rebus dish is still valid, but communication about the deal might be a bit challenging due to limited English proficiency.
This time, I also ordered their Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng (RM 11.90), a traditional dish that caught my eye during my previous visit. I'm glad I tried it – a yummylicious plate of fragrant fluffy coconut rice, hard-boiled egg, savoury crunchy fried peanuts and anchovies, sliced cucumber, and a generous serving of special-made sambal tumis, accompanied by a freshly fried chicken on the side. The coconut rice was fragrant, and the sambal tumis wins my heart with its deep, spicy, sweet, and savoury flavours. The fried chicken, although a bit greasy, had tender and flavourful meat.
After having such a fantastic meal here the first time, I'm back to feast on their Mee Rebus again. It's just that amazing.

Juicy and tasty and most importantly it’s worth the money
I am back here again in less than a month. This is now my go-to place for BBQ seafood in JB. Tried the salted egg prawns previously and I loved it. Now I am having it together with squid to have the best of both in a dish. The grilled prawns were still as good and the sotong was cooked just right, chewy but not rubbery.
