Yummy! Best linguine I’ve had. Fresh tasty Boston lobster meat in yummy tomato sauce is really great with the linguine.

I have always been the foodie in the relationship. At a hawker centre, my other half is the type who doesn't see the point in queuing or waiting for food even if it's only a couple of minutes (let alone an entire half hour), regardless of yumminess and reputation. When he places an order, it would be in the most basic style, either by holding up an index finger (for one bowl of whatever it is) or use the shortest sentence possible. I, on the other hand, would wait up to an hour (with my trusty mobile phone as company) for a dish I like, make a beeline for any queue in front of a stall that looks promising and when it's my turn, launch a little spiel on specifics like to please add more chilli, hold the sweet sauce and pile on the pork lard. So no prizes for guessing who's the one who always does the ordering and who "chopes" the seats!
Not surprisingly, when we dine at fancier places, he leaves it entirely to me to decide. On a visit not too long ago to "L'atelier Joel de Robuchon", as usual, I was the one who perused the menu, chatted with the chef and waiters before selecting the dishes for us. And thus it was because of this that he got to be transported by the "La Roseval" ($39++), a dish of pig trotter, something he would usually not touch with a ten-foot pole. When it was served, he eyed it suspiciously before taking a tentative bite. Love struck in an instant. By the way his eyes lit up, it was obvious I now had to share his heart with this gloriously aromatic, fatty pork. That gratinated finish with aged Parmesan cheese only made the bits of cartilage even more irresistible, resulting in a savoury, sticky yumminess that had him (and myself) enamoured.
So yes, the adage "opposites attract" rings true for us. And I would like to think that because of my influence, his tastebuds have gone on many thrilling rides, with many more to come.

If the idea of taut, juicy prawns perched on a spaghetti timbale (that houses an otah-like filling), mushrooms and bitter greens fails to excite you, then the prawn bisque that's due to gush in should. It was a lip-smacking concentration of umami that milked every last drop from the sweet crustacean.

My friends kept commenting how this was their favourite dish, because of how well done the meatballs were and combined with the truffle hash and egg it was extremely flavourful. I tried the truffle hash and my only gripe is I wish they had more!

Mini Man Tou burgers American-style, with a fat juicy minced beef patty, melted cheese, tomato slices and pickles. ($25) Gonna be biased towards this because I love anything with those golden, crispy Man Tou buns. The meat could do with a nice glazing of barbeque sauce imo, but it does taste just as flavourful without. The dish did come with a small saucer of barbeque sauce for dipping though. The truffle fries on the side however was just plain fries. Absolutely zero truffle. I'm pretty sure the chef had forgotten to toss abit of truffle oil, which is kinda disappointing because I had their truffle fries the last time and they were pretty good šŸ˜ž

Stuck at work, dreaming of brunch and this beef cheek on potato pancake which is the epitome of the perfect brunch food came to mind. Crisp potato pancakes resembling rosti (MY FAVOURITE!!) / hashbrown, with cayenne buttermilk, topped with free-ranged poached egg and the star of it all : fork-tender slow-braised beef cheeks as a result of cooking with red-wine for 6h. šŸ˜‹

Thanks #burpple for the invite, and Ying @chinesewinegal / @rooseveltsdinerbar for the kind hospitality!

By using Chianti wine as the braising agent, the Beef Cheek Pappardelle ($28) stands out among the rest in the comfort and indulgence index. If M&Ms melts in your hand, the beef cheek definitely melts in your mouth.

Presentation is everything. Which is why an order of the Santa's Coffee martini in its distinct cocoa powder-coated glass ended up on our table. But it wasn't just the way it looked that we found pleasing. The cocktail itself was a very drinkable sweet, coffee-flavoured concoction of vodka, a real espresso shot, paprika smoked cream, sugar, cocoa powder and orange zest. If you are too full to have dessert, this is another blissful way to round off a meal here at FOC.

Like... Whao... We were caught completely off guard by this quiet place with their great dishes and unique offerings! You'll want to get their Monjayaki which is this cool pancake like thing (it's so hard to describe) but that deserves its own post.

The squid, recommended by their staff, was sweet, plump, and tender. Waiting for it sizzling on the grill was torture but we were rewarded well for our patience. Dipped in your choice of mayo with chilli or ginger shouyu, it was one of our favorite items we tried for lunch.
