Thought I could use some quiet moments before the day's hustle and bustle at this beautiful Belgian-inspired bistro nestled within House of AnLi furniture shop in Tanglin Mall. But alas, the outlet itself was buzzing, and somewhat crowded.

Snagged a table by the window and was treated with a view of greenery overlooking Nassim Hill. The panoramic view was a tough competitor for attention, but the food held its own.

The smoked eel brunch plate with avocado, grilled asparagus and caviar served on sourdough toast, I had, was simple and light. Wished I had a second slice of toast to mop up the rich, yolky remainder.

There’s something incredibly honest about a solid slab of meat coaxed over open flames into a lovely charred outer while remaining tender and juicy on the inside. Not just the meat, the sauce is dizzyingly impressive too. Both work perfectly together, the flavour profiles of each being brought out by the other.

The objective was to taste as many OMG dishes as possible, and sticking to two courses and dessert was no way to win. The only limitation was the size of the table. Our third plate - roast beef and tartare salad.

🗒 Roast Beef and Tartare Salad ($14)

The very best bits of a roast, but on toast, with mayo and sweet pickles. Why must the most delicious things also be the trickiest and messiest to eat?

Currently ranked 70th on the World's 50 Best Restaurants list and 14th on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, Burnt Ends is a modern Australian barbecue joint tucked away in a narrow strip of shop house space in Chinatown’s Teck Lim Road.

The restaurant features a 8-seater chef’s table tucked at the far end and a burned rain-tree-wood counter table with a seating capacity of 18. The casual dining approach encouraged you to relax, chat and eat freely with your date, or whoever you were with. The table is minuscule, sure, but that was all part of the intimacy as the menu is geared toward small plates meant for sharing.

We were recommended some excellent appetizers. Our first starter was the Jamaican Chicken with Lime Crema. Packed with tons of bold flavour, it was fragrant, savoury and smoky all at once. And the grilling gave the outside a nice crispness while the inside stayed nice and juicy-tender.

At this choux shop, no frills are wasted on decor. Any bling is provided by the choux. Notable for their couture good looks and fabulous flavours (which include Apple Cinnamon, Dark Chocolate, Lemon Meringue, Lychee Rose, Matcha Azuki, Raspberry, Tiramisu and Vanilla), it's no surprise that each choux will set you back around four to five dollars. But I must say they're ideal for an afternoon treat, a unique gift for someone special, and are the perfect addition to any celebration or event.

🗒 Vanilla ($4), Lychee Rose ($5) , Lemon Meringue ($4), White Coffee ($4.50)

First work day. But, coffee first at this laid back, simple and uncluttered cafe. The tanginess of lime with the sweetness of meringue make this a well- balanced and tasty treat.

This little store at Tanjong Pagar specialises in maze soba, a type of soupless ramen that requires you to mix the noodles with vinegar or chilli oil before digging in. Their signature Mazesoba Nagoya Style consists of delightful chewy noodles with spicy minced pork, seaweed, vegetables and a soft-boiled egg. A carboholics I am, so simply can't refuse the free noodle upsize and the dollop of rice to polish off the remaining sauce.

Enjoying a slice of delicious sachertorte complemented by a compulsory mound of whipped cream is an essential thing to do when visiting Vienna. We had our fix at Demel - a famous pastry shop and chocolaterie established in 1786. The company bears the title of a Purveyor to the Imperial and Royal Court (k.u.k. Hofzuckerbäcker) up to today.

The brioche roll version got top marks from my dining companion too: the lobster was fresh, quality specimen, perfectly cooked – and tasted divine with mayonnaise.

Probably London's cheapest lobster in one of London's priciest areas - and no stinting on quality. I had mine served in both the grilled and steamed versions.

Meet the poke at A Poke Theory. This raw fish salad marries fresh seafood (tuna or salmon) with flavourful add-ins like tobiko, furikake, sesame seeds, pineapple, carrot, cherry tomato, Japanese cucumber, edamame, and nori flakes. It's a really tasty way to up my omega-3 intake.
