This bowl of goodness had me scrapping so hard to get those burnt pieces off that I almost broke the pot! 😂

The menu at Social Place is quirky but the food is solid. Plus, the eatery is a whimsical place to hang out and chill.

Steamed rice grains steeped in piping-hot broth made with a medley of seafood, topped with a shower of crispy fried rice puffs. Perfect to stave off my cravings for something warm and soupy with the chilly sweater weather in Singapore these past few weeks.

🗒 Seafood Pao Fan ($6.90)

Crabtivatingly delicious crab bee hoon from @lovechowsg

With only one thing on the menu, this humble stall rakes in long queues every day. Its laksa gravy, cooked the old-school way over charcoal, offers the right balance of spice and coconut milk. It’s served with a generous amount of cockles, making me - a lover of this mollusk - very happy. I polished off a whole bowl in under 5 minutes so I recommend getting two.

🗒 $3

The modern Chinese tapas restaurant sits on the upper floor of The Riverhouse, and aptly named ‘secret’in Mandarin. It brings to life the enchantingly melodious blend of tradition and modernity. Each plate is well-presented and carefully curated showcasing intriguing flavours from Sichuan, Shanghainese, Cantonese, and Mongolian cuisine.

There’s just something about Singapore Coffee. Nestled within Singapore's Grand Old Dame, Raffles Hotel, this coffee shop offers a setting, a particular aura that’s inviting and cozy. The eye-catching design aesthetic, the buzzing of the espresso machine, the perfectly calibrated coffee grinder going round and round, and the aromas that fill the air. Did I mention the Kopi Shake is absolutely yum?

🗒 Kopi Shake $9

Consisting of a flavorful, clear broth, shaved beef, tender Chinese radish slices, lots of cilantro and scallion, deep red chili oil, and chewy handmade noodles, this bowl of beef noodle soup is hands down one of the best I have tasted. I almost thought I wouldn’t be able to finish the mountainous heap of noodles, so large was my bowl, but of course I did.

The hand-pulled noodles possess the perfect chew and just-cooked bite in the impossibly long strand that forces you to enjoy the slurpability. Do not wear a white shirt if you plan on dining here, even if you think you’re a chopstick expert.

🗒 Signature Beef Noodles ($8.90, plus top-up of $4 for set lunch)

Though I’m not a big fan of foie gras, I must say the standout at this two Michelin starred restaurant is the Foie Gras Chawanmushi with Crab Roe Soup, a sublime combination of Japanese and Chinese influences. Imagine decadent goose liver covered with soft and luscious chawanmushi, topped with a thick crab roe soup, served in a beautiful bespoke bowl with a candle below to ensure the soup is maintain at the right temperature while being consumed.

Far East Plaza might be the slightly-shady mall along Orchard Road that sells cheap street clothes, but it’s also the homeground of what’s arguably the one of the pioneering yakitori restaurants in Singapore. The yakitori bento is Nanbantei’s most well-received lunch set. At $15.50, it’s value for money. One gets five sticks of yakitori: shiitake mushrooms, asparagus wrapped in bacon, pork seasoned with garlic, chicken balls 👍🏻, and chicken with leek😍; and rice with mushroom, seaweed and minced meat; and a small handful of raw vegetables, to be eaten with a rather forgettable dip. The set also comes with miso soup.
