The special cupcake of this month is made up of a light vanilla sponge and lavender blueberry buttercream. It has a beautiful floral taste which is just enough to linger in your tastebuds. The best thing is that this visually appealing dessert isn't too sweet at all. Two of my (many) favourite flavours in a cupcake? It knows the way to my heart.
Drown this fluffy layers in maple syrup and breakfast is good to go! Simple and delicious!
My favourite to-go restaurant for dim-sum since I was young. But what's ironic to me is that the servers speak Cantonese instead of Teochew. Well of course they do communicate in Chinese too! Hmm..😆 With reference from the picture, I usually order the salted egg yolk bun (流沙包), steamed char siew bun, chicken feet, pan-fried carrot cake, roasted duck and pork (dipped in sweet plum sauce and Chinese mustard respectively. The skins are so crisp and the meats are succulent!) and steamed bamboo clams (with tons of chopped garlic and chilli!). Also, do order the deep fried silver fish, chilled intestines marinated in soy sauce, the best ever chee cheong fun with shrimps and the fried version (only available on weekends) and the pan-friend yong tau foo with bean paste (also only available on weekends). This restaurant also serves various seafood, congee, wok-hei dishes etc; think classy zi-char 😏 The service is good given their sheer attentiveness- think one server to 3 or 4 tables! If you're planning to go on weekends, remember to place reservations!
😵 This was our expression when we saw this plate of beef ribs when it was being served to us. 600g of meat, cooked to perfection, fell off the bone easily, coated with homemade BBQ sauce, alongside huge chunks potatoes and carrots plus salad. It was lip-smacking delicious and boy were both of us full! Luckily we only ordered this dish to share! My friend tried their recommended salted caramel drink and I took a sip - it tastes like you're having ice-cream, but in liquids instead. A bit too rich for my liking, but if you're a fan of sweet creamy drinks, you can give this a go! Everything here is served in huge portions, so it's either you come with a big appetite or pull more people along! And did I mention that the prices are pretty reasonable for the portion you're receiving?
Chunks of fresh sashimi above a bed of lukewarm pearly white rice, drenched with in-house sauce. Super filling but yet so addictive. There're still side dishes such as braised daikon that you can help yourselves with. It's my second visit there and definitely won't be the last. Try to visit during weekday lunch, around 1pm when the crowd gradually disappears.
Slabs of delicate, fresh sashimi is always a winner. And the miso soup is the best I've ever tasted- slightly sweet and earthy. (You'll know why when you see prawn heads swimming in it 😏) The set-lunches are worth the quality of the food you're paying for.
Thinking of having a meal with a different view? Grub is a place one should try. My friend and I ordered the Sakura Ebi Pasta, cooked al-denté with freckles of dried ebi and fresh prawns; the recommended Mentaiko fries, which is pretty good except that the fries could be less salty since the dip is full-flavoured; the slow cooked pork belly with sweet potato and braised leeks - really soft and succulent meat paired with creamy sweetness from the purple potato, but the gravy from the leeks could do with a little less salt. We also ordered the churros, which was thick and huge and paired with white + dark chocolate, though I would prefer more cinnamon flavour in my opinion. The service staff were friendly, and even asked us for feedback about the food and took our comments wholeheartedly. 👍 Willing to give this place another go sometime soon.
I have a terrible soft spot for waffles and ice cream. And a beautiful table to enhance the look of the (already) photogenic dessert makes it even better. Shallow minded, ha! Well, it's not all looks- this waffle is warm, has a light bread texture and crisp on the outside, yum! Top it off with a selection of ice-cream: I chose the raspberry rose- a little tangy and sorbet-like & a lovely earthy scoop of earl grey. Happiness on a plate.
Yes, as stated in the geotag, this cafe is hidden behind rows of factories. The facade of this rustic, industrial-chic place is painted bright, orangey-red, so it's hard to miss! My Malaysian friend and I (so thankful to have her drive me to this inaccessible place) tried the poppyseed bagel with cheese sausage, ham and eggs (not pictured), waffles with chocolate + banana + ice-cream (which were quite dense, similar to those Chinese cake 鸡蛋糕, not bad!), hot chocolate (imagine 70% cocoa.. Not too thick but equally luscious. Should consider having churros on the side, hmm) and of course, coffee. I tried the rose latte: the coffee had just the right warmth, smoothness and nutty flavour, with a hint of aromatic rose at the back of your throat. Mmm, pretty damn good coffee, I must admit. As you know it, I've already told my friend to drive us there again the next time we meet for coffee in JB. 😏
Nestled away from the bustling city, this restaurant serves one of the best Italian cuisine I've ever tasted. The Italian cold cuts are paper thin, but full of flavour and not too salty. Do order the fist-sized burrata (not stated in the menu though). Slightly tough on the exterior, but super creamy once sliced. Smear this goodness on freshly made focaccia, drizzle quality extra virgin olive oil, top it with Parma ham, arugula and organic cherry tomatoes. Ahh, such magic to devour on. *wipes drool*
Entering this cafe is like being transported back to Paris. This cafe serves up a hearty variety of tartines to choose from, two types of cold platters, salads, desserts and a large selection of alcohol. My friend and I shared a duck cold platter, with each rillette, pâte etc being so flavourful when paired with rye bread; and also an eggplant caviar with ham and ricotta tartine. We were also served complimentary rose wine as it was ladies' night on Wednesday! Mmm, perfect pairing! You know where to head to if anyone asks, "Qu'allez vous manger ce soir?"
