Cafe Worthy
Step into the whimsical world of kitsch interior decor and be enchanted by the small yet drool-worthy selection of gourmet burgers and sides. My friend and I tried the Baby Huey (think juicy beef patty. Mmm!), Honky Tonk (crispy deep fried chicken with onion relish) and Naughty Fries (hand cut potatoes topped with minced beef and deep fried shallots. A little Asian twist to your normal beef fries). The buns were fluffy and soft, and the best part was that they don't get soaked in the juicy patty/sauce. I personally felt that the fries had a very oily aftertaste once we were halfway through it, but it was pretty interesting and tasty I must admit! Bless my clogged arteries! šš
šµ This was our expression when we saw this plate of beef ribs when it was being served to us. 600g of meat, cooked to perfection, fell off the bone easily, coated with homemade BBQ sauce, alongside huge chunks potatoes and carrots plus salad. It was lip-smacking delicious and boy were both of us full! Luckily we only ordered this dish to share! My friend tried their recommended salted caramel drink and I took a sip - it tastes like you're having ice-cream, but in liquids instead. A bit too rich for my liking, but if you're a fan of sweet creamy drinks, you can give this a go! Everything here is served in huge portions, so it's either you come with a big appetite or pull more people along! And did I mention that the prices are pretty reasonable for the portion you're receiving?
Thinking of having a meal with a different view? Grub is a place one should try. My friend and I ordered the Sakura Ebi Pasta, cooked al-dentĆ© with freckles of dried ebi and fresh prawns; the recommended Mentaiko fries, which is pretty good except that the fries could be less salty since the dip is full-flavoured; the slow cooked pork belly with sweet potato and braised leeks - really soft and succulent meat paired with creamy sweetness from the purple potato, but the gravy from the leeks could do with a little less salt. We also ordered the churros, which was thick and huge and paired with white + dark chocolate, though I would prefer more cinnamon flavour in my opinion. The service staff were friendly, and even asked us for feedback about the food and took our comments wholeheartedly. š Willing to give this place another go sometime soon.
Looking for something light to share (or maybe even have everything to yourself!)? Sarnies is the place to go! Tried 2 dishes, first being the pulled pork tortilla. The tortilla was filled with purple cabbage, tender marinated pork and guacamole. I wish they could be more generous with the avocado goodness! The second dish was the Cajun-spiced kampong chicken, which was cook to perfection. Juicy, full-flavoured and piping hot when served. Yum! Would love to give the other dishes a go next time!
Healthy? Check. Flavourful? Double check. Delicious? Check check check. This charming cafe serves up light, hearty fares. Here, I've devoured on the pumpkin, beetroot, quinoa and mixed veg salad, dressed in vinaigrette that wasn't too twangy at all; in-house smoked mackerel and salmon (which tasted pretty raw and that's a plus point! And these smoked fishes don't leave a weird aftertaste unlike some which you get from packages); roasted beef with mustard in toasted rye bread, which was divine but I wished it was a tad more salty. The smooth, nutty coffee was perfect and the mixed berry smoothie could be a bit thicker. Overall, this meal was pretty damn good and I can't wait till my next visit.
