Sweet Treats
For those who crave and yearn for Bangkok's famous coconut ice-cream, fret not! This small store not only serves the coconut flavour, but also other tropical flavours such as banana, mango and passionfruit. Each flavour is smooth and creamy, almost similar to the consistency of a gelato. On top of this, you can choose 2 to 3 toppings, giving this dessert different textures, plus, you'll get a cup of pure coconut juice to go along, making this entire combination a refreshing treat!
Everyone's making a bee line to try this famous soft serve and obviously, I had to join! I tried the 'organic cotton candy affagato'. The soft serve was thick- almost having the same consistency as a gelato in my opinion. It is then topped with cotton candy, with hot espresso poured over and topped with more cotton candy. The coffee tones down the sweetness, which I like. I feel that it's pretty pricey for a small cup, and not really cream of the crop (as mentioned in my title!), but still deserving enough as a treat! 🍦
I didn't get a chance to visit the one in Tokyo earlier this year, so I'm pretty psyched about this famous outlet here. Ordered the lemon tart - I have a soft spot for them- and this version is excellent! Some people may find it a tad too sour, but I enjoy it the way it is. Also, I can't miss out on the recommended Crêpe Suzette, flambé in front of you, has a strong Grand Marnier flavour alongside the orange syrup. The matcha caffe latte has a strong flavour so I enjoyed it as well! The prices of the crêpe and latte are steep in my opinion. As for the service, it can be further improved, but I suppose the lack of staff could be the partial contributing factor. I wished they could be more attentive given that the restaurant wasn't packed on a weekday afternoon when I was there.
The special cupcake of this month is made up of a light vanilla sponge and lavender blueberry buttercream. It has a beautiful floral taste which is just enough to linger in your tastebuds. The best thing is that this visually appealing dessert isn't too sweet at all. Two of my (many) favourite flavours in a cupcake? It knows the way to my heart.
I have a terrible soft spot for waffles and ice cream. And a beautiful table to enhance the look of the (already) photogenic dessert makes it even better. Shallow minded, ha! Well, it's not all looks- this waffle is warm, has a light bread texture and crisp on the outside, yum! Top it off with a selection of ice-cream: I chose the raspberry rose- a little tangy and sorbet-like & a lovely earthy scoop of earl grey. Happiness on a plate.
The Japanese have done it again. Two cakes for breakfast? (Okay, I shared). Tried the poached pears and caramel millefeuille; crispy thin rough puff pastry with lightly whipped cream and soft sponge, filled with delicately poached pears and caramel sauce. It was divine, but I don't recommend (and neither the store would dare say) keeping for another day as the puff pastry became slightly tougher to cut. The banana chocolate roulade was lovely; the sponge was light and moist, with a slight crispy exterior, filled with cream and big slice of glazed banana. With a few outlets around the island, it shouldn't be too hard to get a cake or 2 to satisfy your sweet tooth. (;
This is one treat that you must eat in a flash! This fish-shaped pancake stuffed with your choice of filling (custard, matcha, red bean, chocolate) is slightly crispy on the outside and mochi-kinda chewy on the inside. Would skip having the ice cream and the works next time as it melts in a flash due to the warmth of the pancake. But I'm definitely getting just the pancakes in various flavours the next time! :D
I've always been a fan of Creamier, but it's just quite out if the way for me. This sister outlet of the popular latter is the latest up-and-coming ice-cream spot. Imagine customised soft serves on waffles or cones with plenty of toppings to choose from? What a dream! Ordered my favourite earl grey lavender flavour (aside from my other favourite: roasted pistachio), topped with lavender konnyaku, gula melaka mochi and berries on crispy, fluffy waffles, which never fail to disappoint. I adore this beautiful flavour as every mouthful is packed with a deep, intense floral taste. I also tried the matcha roll (not pictured). The cake's texture was light and fluffy but the tea flavour could be stronger, in my opinion. I'd like to try their other in-house baked cakes the next time! Another perfect spot to satisfy my soft spot for waffles and ice-cream- these folks do it well.
Located at the 2nd storey of an old building, a small brightly lit patisserie serves up this well-known chef-patisser's exquisite Japanese-French style creations. His latest invention, the Luna Wrap, has the fluffiest sponge cake (similar to a pancake) filled with lightly whipped flavoured cream. I tried the matcha one, which also includes a layer of azuki cream and chestnuts on top. Also, I tried the Mount Fuji, which has the moistest chocolate cake, layered with super light chestnut cream, chestnuts and a thin layer of rough puff pastry (slightly salted), resulting in this winning combination. What stood out about his delectable cakes is that they're aren't too sweet, which made devouring 2 cakes all by myself less guilty. 😂 I'll be back for more.
