For $3.50, Yam Mee’s stall won us over. You get a bowl of mee kia with two fishballs, one meatball and a vegetable ball, topped with minced meat and juicy stewed mushrooms. The fishballs are succulent and have a nice bite to them. The noodles are tossed in lard, and their chilli packs a punch! The addition of fried shallots gave this dish a good crunch and a fragrant aroma. Really satisfying lunch, definitely one of the best!

Noodle Thai Thai Kitchen sets the stage for simple yet unique flavours of northern Thailand.
.
Clams with Jade noodles ($12) - an amalgamation of basil, garlic, fish sauce and oyster sauce with “lala” tossed with green spinach noodles with a texture similar to wanton noodles. Moist, fragrant and simple, it’s a unique dish that is spicy yet not overpowering.
.
Dry Pork ($10) - stir-fried and with a honeyed sweetness, dip the pork strips in the tangy hot chili sauce for a kick, and cool it down with raw cabbage. Worth a try while passing by! ;)

Let me start by saying how huge a coffee addict Doug is (!!)
.
These cookies are fantastic. The buttery flavor comes at your first whiff, then the rich and slight bitterness of the ground coffee hits. The chopped walnuts make everything flow together beautifully like a dream. These cookies will definitely be a huge favourite, more so among adults. And i have to add that the cookies here are made with only a touch of sweetness, so you can properly savour the ingredients!
.
And of course we couldn’t get enough of just Coffee Walnut cookies, so here goes - the Egg Free 24K Gold Lucky Pops ($30)! They are prettily topped with 24k gold sprinkles that sparkle like a hundred diamonds if you are blessed with a fervent imagination.
.
In addition to the visual appeal, this cookie produces an ideal texture, the cookie tender and crumbly from ground almonds, which also makes it extra smooth on the tongue. Matcha powder gave the pops a delicate grassy flavour without overpowering the round notes of butter and almond. Truly a delight to savour!!
.
So glad to also be able to meet the baker behind the brand, Christine. It was so heartwarming to hear her talk about her passion, and you have no doubt she uses only quality ingredients and no artificial food colouring in her recipes! Christine’s cookies are egg free, who would have guessed! They are great for anyone vegan or allergic to eggs. Definitely a great alternative for those who had their fair share of common vegan baked goods 🙊

Sesame oil, a little light soy and chilli flakes are tossed with the noodles, while several pieces of meat dumpling pillows and blanched greens sit on top. Although the noodles might be too plain for some, we like simplicity of the dish.

This ramen place has a similar concept in Ginza, Japan and is the first time it is being brought to Singapore!
.
Doug tried the Hybrid Duck Maze Soba ($14.90), or dry noodles, with deep fried egg wrapped in seaweed. Break the seaweed-wrapped egg and mix it well with the noodles, and the result is a bowl of delicious dry noodles. After having it with the original flavour, add some maze soba chilli and orange vinegar sauce separately to the noodles and taste profile changes. The orange vinegar balances the heavy flavour of the noodles well, while the soba chilli sauce reminds me of our local noodles, though we’d love it best with the red chili oil!
.
Jo had a rice option - Kamo Wasabi Gohan ($8.90). While it looked like a really a small bowl of rice, I kid you not, this dish is pretty good! It's topped with tender soft Irish duck meat slivers seasoned in a wasabi sweet sauce over sticky Japanese short grains Super wasabi-shiok and oishi!
.
Totally no qualms about Ginza Kamo Soba Kyudaime Keisuke being the next hit in Holland Village!

Really reasonable price and it's everything you'd ask for in a carrot cake. The carrot cake bits were so soft and fluffy!! The elderly uncle steams it fresh every morning, so that you can taste that light bouncy texture in every bite! The large pieces are unevenly chopped up and doused with a generous amount of flavourful eggs, before being heated and then fried on a large sizzling hot plate.
.
We got both the white and black mixed version ($4), and this dish totally hits the spot! It has a slight spicy heat with just the right amount of chye poh! We like the white version, with the fragrant flavours of the egg and kueh coming through, while the black would be a favourite if you enjoy a sweet touch!

I'd frequent this stall whenever I'm sick of the ban mian stall few units down or the super cheap cai fan stall just opposite. Got a platter of rice with veggies, beancurd and egg tofu ($3.60). Boyy they do not disappoint. Super love the sambal long beans, it hits just the spot for me. Everything else was flavourful and satisfying - I wouldn't mind having lunch here everyday!

Loved their sliced fish soup, it’s $6 but comes with a generous serving of sliced fish and fried egg! Soup was sweet though most of the fragrance was due to the 炸蛋, silky and smooth from the milk. Especially loved their fresh fish and unique crude-cut garlic chili! Spinach is their vegetable of choice for this dish, which lends a unique texture since it’s thinner, softer and goes down easier than the usual chye sim.
.
Would have loved it with a stronger fish flavour, maybe next time sans the milk!

If you’re looking for alternatives and craving a chinese palate, 大众美食’s wanton mee ($4.50) is worth a try!
.
We swapped the deep fried wantons for boiled ones, much to our preference since deep frying renders them just a crisp. Especially loved their generous plump fillings and 6 per bowl made this a pretty steal!
.
The noodles were tossed in their special stewed black sauce and a tiny scoop of chili on the side. Mixed it up together, and only did we realise how potent that dollop was. With a savoury and spicy twist, the noodles soaked up the sauces, delivering flavour and heat in every bite!
