Fret not, because tucked away in a little corner of Far East Plaza is Kra Pow! Swelling with street flavours, this place is run by Thai's and packs a mean menu. (Swipe ➡️for visual sensation)
.
Their Dry Suki ($9.90) is a blend of the Japanese “sukiyaki” but in dry style with strong Thai elements. The fragrance from the lemon basil and fish sauce with strong heat from the chili bits delivers every bite with a flavour reminiscent of the streetside stalls of Bangkok.
.
The Drunkard Noodle Pork ($7.90) boasts a hefty shaoxing wine flavour (hence the name), lending a fragrant yet lingering sweetness to the dish. The minced pork is mildly peppered and the thick kway teow soaks up the flavours of the dish, tasty appetising and really makes you wanting more!
.
Crispy Thai Wings ($6.90) were not too bad, slightly smaller sized, but well seasoned and tender.
.
A good dessert is always the best way to end a meal! Red Ruby Green Emerald ($5.90) is Kra Pow’s specialty dessert. Finely blended ice with coconut milk is served with chestnuts in tapioca - similar to your common red ruby dessert at a hawker centre but what took the cut for us was the freshness of the coconut milk and the fineness of the ice. The fine ice melting in your mouth feels like the sweet finishing touches of a good cake, a refreshing way to end a spicy meal!
.
A definite must-visit if you’re in town!

Hungry us ordered a Claypot Ee Fu ($5.50, swipe ➡️ for more pics!) that came within minutes, piping hot and bubbling away, cooking the raw egg that sat on top. Chinese cabbage, yam cubes and prawns are drenched in a thick gooey sauce that coats the generous portion of noodles.
.
Their Chicken rice ($4) was a simple rendition of the traditional Hainanese flavour, very tender chicken breast doused in fragrant sesame oil. Rice is aromatic and not mushy, and the mix with the blended chili sauce just sealed the deal for us!
.
Couldn’t leave without getting their infamous Kaya Toast ($1.20)! Baked in house, there is no wonder their breads are so soft and fluffy!! Paired with their kaya and a slab of butter, this simple goodness is an all day heavenly breakfast. For the full wholesome breakfast experience, get the set ($3.70) which comes with a coffee/tea and two half boiled eggs!
.
Definitely a must-try even if you’re not in the area!

Just round the corner of Holland Village, there hides a good ramen fix that will leave you wanting more!
.
Doug’s choice - Rich Dried Sardine Tsukemen ($16), a dipping noodle dish with a potent sardine and bonito broth. The tsukemen dip was rich and smooth, boasting strong bonito flavours. The soup was so fragrant and thick, peppered generously with lightly charred tender char siew bits, coating the springy noodles with every mouthful.
.
Jo‘s pick - Rich Tori x Miso Ramen with flavored soft-boiled Egg ($17). The soup base was chicken stock mixed with Sanpoutei's original miso blend. The flavours were so intense from the premium ingredients used, but didn't come off salty nor jelak. Ramen came with two slices of tenderly stewed aburi chashu, flavored soft-boiled egg, dried seaweed and black fungus.
.
If you love a hearty and savoury ramen dish, you will love this this place!

Where storks nest and people rest, Mr Stork is provides an amazing ambience amidst the busy town with a clear view of the cityscape. Perched on the rooftop, the 39th floor of Andaz hotel, this place is just a stone’s throw from Bugis!
.
A novelty with its tepee huts ⛺️, Mr Stork boasts a mean menu, with cocktails at $20, beers at $14, and really awesome chicken wings at $12!
.
If there’s one thing on the menu that you have to order, it’s got to be their chicken wings! They don’t look much but we assure you they are the bomb! The most memorable wings we’ve had at a bar! We ordered double servings as they were so good, lightly charred with sriracha sauce that we think comprises chunky black beans and hot jalapeño sauce, but we can’t be too sure. Every bite leaves a warm heat in your mouth! You’ve definitely got to try this one!!
.
We found the cocktails slightly pricey though they were fruity and refreshing! (Elephant mug courtesy of Ceylon Arrack) Served on tap, their Andaz Pale Ale boasted a rounded head with bright and clean flavours. Complimentary murukku is provided for beers!
.
Considering that this bar is located in a hotel, we find the majority of prices very reasonable, i.e. your typical bar pricing but with the additional appreciation of the tepee hut concept, this place is pretty much a gem!

Still one of the best and most amazing ytf featured in one of our early posts. If you detest sweet sauce, this place will be life changing for you. Their spicy chilli sauce is blended from hae bee(虾米), shallots, garlic and mixed with homemade sweet sauce that we think pair beautifully well with dry noodles. The soup gets its thickness and flavor from yellow beans simmered til tender, ikan bilis and dried scallop which lends its natural sweetness. Pick 5 types of ytf for $4. All servings come with default kang kong and beansprouts! You can also choose to have 猪肠粉 in place of the usual noodles too!

We visited Man Man’s little quaint branch along Keong Saik, boasting soft unagi seasoned to perfection, comforting on the inside with thin skin on the outside, grilled to a crisp! For those with don't like the fishy, slimy and muddy taste of eel, Man Man will change your mind!!
.
We ordered the Large Hitsumabushi ($35.80+), a portion good enough for two! With a slight smoky fragrance, soft meat, and slightly charred skin, you can eat the dish on its own, or with negi and wasabi or daishi stock (swipe ➡️for more pics!). The spicy sweet sauce at the side had a hint of ginger, our favourite among the three. The light bonito fragrance from the daishi stock lents a warm and comforting touch to the meal.
.
Great unagi, great ambience, and definitely a dining experience to remember.

Also great for supper if you want something simple and healthy! The texture is smooth, not too thick yet not too watery.
.
The warm boiled rice aroma was nicely blended with the fish, spring onions, eggs and white pepper. At $4.50 a bowl (add. 50c for raw egg/century egg), every bowl comes with a good serving of youtiao 😋

Jo's Buta Shogayaki Don ($11.90) boasted a very generous serving of tender pork strips stir fried in soy sauce, sake, mirin, along with ginger and onion. There were still a few slices left even at the last spoonful of rice! Scrumptious, savoury and highly addictive when paired with the warm fluffy rice as a donburi. Break the onsen egg for a creamy addition to the delicious dish!
.
Doug had their Garlic Tonkotsu with all toppings ($15.90), and opted for the hard noodles and strong soup. Out it came piping hot with a dash of dark garlic oil, topped with black fungus, tender caramelised aburi belly chashu, and a large slab of chashu that spanned the diameter of the bowl (tastes decent but not quite as satisfying as the aburi belly). With strong flavours of Japanese shio, the rich and creamy soup was fragrant with a smooth velvety finish like melted butter.
.
Ramen Hitoyoshi also offers a free flow of beansprouts and sweet corn. The fresh beansprouts are seasoned in chili oil and sesame seeds, refreshing on the side!

Really love the thick pastry base, one bite in and you’re already in heaven. The accompanying egg custard filling was nothing short of amazing - fragrant, wobbly and silky smooth.
.
SL II muffins are a definite must-buy. We had the banana-walnut muffin ($1.50, my goodness, where can you find tasty delights at such prices?!). Studded with walnuts and banana slices embedded within, their muffins are soft, fluffy and thankfully not too sweet. We were told that they are butter and margarine-free, so that surely gives a peace of mind if you’d like 2 instead of 1!
.
I have heard really good stuff about their coconut tarts and cannot wait to try them one day!!
