Think chou dou fu (Taiwanese smelly tofu) in deep fried glory. Remember to dip it in the sweet, slightly tart plum sauce that comes with it. Delish.

The idea of coagulated pig trotter may render one apprehensive at first, but this was surprisingly delicious! A cold, savoury jelly which melts in your mouth to form a gravy like consistency, with bits of crunchy trotter. Very unique dish — highly recommended!

ANOTHER STELLAR SIDE DISH HERE. Featuring an addictively savoury and spicy green pepper sauce derived from a mixture of charred green pepper and Sichuan pepper. This is then ladled atop eggplant that is first peeled before being boiled, which helps it to absorb the sauce better and makes it softer. SO SIMPLE, YET SO DELISH.

OMG. So GOOD. Fried to a perfect crisp and super umami. Genius idea of stuffing that Japanese leek inside the intestines as well. Dip it in that addictive chilli powder at the side and you have a winner. Sold!!!!

We opted for a mixture of clear and red soup on this one. Verdict: if you like your spice, go for the purely red broth instead, as the clear soup neutralised the fire in the red pepper broth quite a bit. However, beef chunks were melt in your mouth and tender, and noodles were chewy and QQ — certainly did not disappoint!

If you love ma in ma la, you will enjoy this broth very much! Don’t take its plain appearance at face value, because this was super numbing and highly addictive. We opted for rice noodle, and it turned out as we’d expected — QQ with a nice bite! Fresh prawns as well. Pro-tip: Do pair your noodles with pickled vegetables (provided as a side dish at every table), as the saltiness compliments the noodles to a tee.

Tucked away in a row of industrial shophouses in Tai Seng, this quiet cafe serves up pretty delicious lunch sets! Mushroom aglio olio was al dente and generously laden with meaty, well-seasoned mushrooms, whilst the Louisiana grilled chicken rice was excellent too! Wholesome portion of chicken grilled to a nice crisp on the outside whilst retaining tenderness. Appreciated that the brown rice was neither mushy nor dry, but had a nice bite and was seasoned in this fragrant slightly nutty and sweet sauce. Yum! Office folks around the area should really consider the lunch set here. Consists of a main and coffee/tea of choice.

As a sucker for all things pancake/mee chiang kueh, I knew I had to get my hands on this. Soft and chewy on the inside whilst retaining a nice crisp on the outside, I had no regrets getting this! Ordered chocolate cheese flavour, which came with a generous amount of chocolate (made with melted chocolate rice) and sliced cheese. Loved the savoury sweet combination of the two flavours.

This no-frills skewer and dranks joint housed in Grandlink Square (next to Little Vietnam) is my newfound hangout. Expect fresh, affordable and expertly grilled skewers from meats to veggies, and cheap drinks (highballs at $6, say whaaaat?). Plus SUPER FRESH oysters at just $4 per oyster? I highly recommend getting the assorted mushroom-bacon skewer pairings too — all were JUICILY SOLID.

Love the unpretentious and buzzy vibes of this place. Al fresco seating located next to river with dim lighting; a really great spot to unwind at after a long day at work.

Casual skewer kiosk at the food basement of Causeway Point! The set comes with regular chicken, chicken ball, pork zigzag, fried kimchi-stuffed dumplings and a choice of ramyeon, regular rice or seaweed rice. The chicken skewer was grilled to a nice tender char, and the chicken ball was juicy. Pork zigzag was a little tough, but flavour was there. Appreciated that the rice was mixed with seaweed, which provided a nice savoury touch.

Final verdict? Somewhat on par with ToriQ quality and price wise, but with a Korean spin. Would recommend this if you’re looking for a quick takeaway option around here.

Skip the average regular fries and go for the SPICY fries (pictured on the left)! Crispy, cut to just the right thickness and dusted in an addictive chilli powder for a spicy kick. I really enjoyed this very much. And this is coming from someone who doesn’t really appreciate fried nosh! A worthy savoury snack to munch on if you’re feeling peckish around the area.

Looks like pita, but tastes like a mix between a fluffy Korean bun and pita, with a soft and chewy mouthfeel. Edamame battered to a crisp and fried, which made for a nice crunchy texture, coupled with a creamy, slightly spicy wasabi mayo made this a very nice combination. A good alternative if you’re looking for a fast and quick meal around the area!
