Meat
This no-frills skewer and dranks joint housed in Grandlink Square (next to Little Vietnam) is my newfound hangout. Expect fresh, affordable and expertly grilled skewers from meats to veggies, and cheap drinks (highballs at $6, say whaaaat?). Plus SUPER FRESH oysters at just $4 per oyster? I highly recommend getting the assorted mushroom-bacon skewer pairings too — all were JUICILY SOLID.
Love the unpretentious and buzzy vibes of this place. Al fresco seating located next to river with dim lighting; a really great spot to unwind at after a long day at work.
Beef steak with teriyaki ginger sauce. Flavour was good, but it was a little too done for me. Would suggest getting the foolproof cod fish instead if you’re planning to dine here!
Part of its signature menu, this charcoal grilled miso-marinated cod fish was simply divine. Flaky, slightly oily, tender and grilled to a smoky char which balanced out the sweetness of the miso really nicely. I suggest consuming this oily fish with intermittent bites of that tangy white radish purée to cleanse the palate, but don’t worry about not finishing your dish — you absolutely will.
Deep fried diced chicken with chopped dried chillies, cashews, chives and Sichuan peppercorn served with crunchy youtiao fritters topped with maple syrup. Spicy, fragrant, super sinful and shiok.
Keisuke group has done it again! Would you just look at this beauty — moist, flaky, slightly oily and a little smoky. Pair this with the perfectly cooked pearl rice here (remember to top it with the complimentary onsen egg) and this makes for a perfect lunch.
Wouldn’t recommend ordering this. Slathered in hot sauce to cover up the fact that it tasted like the kind you’d get from the frozen aisle section.
As smoky, tender and delicious as smoked duck could get. One mouth of this and I was floored, and I’m not even a duck person to begin with. Flavour profile tastes a little more like beef, just smokier and softer. Deeeeliiicious.
Thick slab of sirloin grilled to a nice medium rare. Wouldn’t call this the most tender steak I’ve ever had, but it is good enough to satisfy steak cravings. Fries were crispy, with a slight hint of truffle. Love the chill vibes and stellar view at this rooftop bar cum diner. Service was great too, as the waiter was very engaging and obliged to our requests promptly. Will come back again, especially since mains are 1-for-1 with Burpple Beyond!
Stunning appearance and equally impressive in taste. Loved how the tender and slightly oily trout complemented the tangy basil, confit tomato and olive oil dressing. Big portion - good dish for sharing!
Fried to a nice crisp without being oily. Pry the golden exterior open to reveal tender and moist meat that will leave you yearning for an endless cycle of “okay, just another piece”’s. Love the laidback, slightly mysterious vibe and stellar Japanese-themed bar bites at this joint. Already planning my next visit here. Oh yes, and best of all — it’s a freaking highball den. What more could an ardent whisky fan ask for? 😛
Ooooh lordy this was so gooood. Tender, melt-in-your-mouth striploin grilled to a nice char on the sides. Paired well with the slightly sweet umami soy reduction and tangy black garlic cream reduction. Interesting use of sunchoke (Jerusalem artichoke) chips, which flavour-wise tastes a little like chrysanthemum and texture-wise like tapioca chips.
Smoky and well-charred. Tending a little too much on the fatty side for me, but doneness was executed well. Nice touch with the kombucha butter and salsa verde, which I can imagine would be suitable for people who like stronger flavours. Not for me though, as I felt that the fatty cut of the meat was flavourful enough. Portion pictured here was taken at a tasting, not to actual scale.
