Got invited to try out their improved recipes for their waffles. Version 3.0 differs from 2.0 with the chicken being marinated for a day in milk before frying, and the change from a Wasabi Slaw to a Southern Mustard Slaw. Must say that I like the slight char of the waffles, and the light and crisp batter so it doesn't get too overwhelming. The wetness of the slaw seems to get in the way of the fried chicken despite its slight spiciness, and the fried chicken somehow felt dry yet tender; a weird sensation. Didn't quite like the corn dip that came alongside too, which seem to add a weird tinge of sourness to the waffles. Preferred the Mac & Cheese one any day.
Waffles here are a bit on the unconventional side; some might disagree because the batter doesn't cover the waffle grill completely or because it's pretty flat, looking somewhat like your average neighbourhood waffle but I guess it's just the cafe's take on the waffle to make it unique to themselves. It's a mixed breed in between buttery pancakes and the chewy neighbourhood waffle; a combination that I actually felt was rather decent and special compared to the myriad of waffles available in the market now. Grilled Chorizo is big, juicy and full of smoky flavours while the sunny side-up's runny yolk and crisp white was a winner.
Went back for their waffles and glad that they now offer Petit-size waffles which comes with only one piece of waffle for smaller appetites. Waffles were pretty good today; crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle with buttermilk flavours, while the Sea Salt Gula Melaka soft-serve was pretty rich in its palm sugar flavours. Also impressive was the chocolate and caramel drizzle on the plate; it gives the waffle a bitter yet sweet goodness.
My first savoury waffle ever and definitely will not be my last.
Their sea salt caramel and bacon waffle is a pretty picture. Just from the plating alone made me drool, coupled with the fragrant buttermilk aroma of the waffles and bright scarlet red strawberries.
I was never a fan of salted caramel because I felt that the saccharinity of the caramel just does not work out for me. However, i decided to take a leap of faith and try it out. It came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream drizzled with the titular sauce.
Vanilla ice cream: i sampled this first, and was pleasantly surprised. The vanilla smooth and creamily dulcet, was rich and slid down my throat sinfully. Pair that with the salted caramel sauce and a good balance between sweet and salty is achieved.
Bacon: The bacon slices possessed a slightly charred and fragrant aroma, salty in the right places and amount. It was also crispy at the edges, provided reasonable crunch to the entire dish.
Strawberries: Surprisingly sweet unlike many other places serving fresh strawberries. Mine was served cold and fresh, possessing a subtle tartness which provided good balance between the waffle and ice cream to a great extent.
Waffle: Very impressed with the crispiness of the waffle. Ultra crispy I must say, producing a resonant crunch sound when knived into. The insides were not as fluffy as expected, which let me down just a little because I love that extra fluff in my waffle. Light body overall which left me satisfied and satiated, not overly bloated.
Overall a surprisingly wonderful experience. Portions were just nice for me alone, but thats just because I have a ravenous appetite. Will be back for their famous Peanut Butter and Jelly French Toast.
My favourite Japanese buffet is always Kushi Dining Bar but a lot people says it's very expensive. So this is a cheaper alternative! Shin Minori! I hate sashimi on buffet counters. Therefore I only go for ala carte sashimi buffet where they sliced the sashimi only when you order it. So if you're craving for good sashimi and looking for wallet friendly place, look no further! Always call for reservation before you go.
A little pricier and inaccessible without car, it's still one of my favourite places to go to! Love the ambiance and great food. It's always packed so remember to reserve before heading down.
Another waffle spot unlocked, featuring the Special waffle of the month - Red Velvet Nutella Waffle from Spatula. Last four days to try this before April's special arrive. This bakery is halal-owned in case you're wondering.
From Something Sweet at Victory8; the same building that houses Mootime. I initially went "Not another waffle again!" when I heard my friend was going to order this, but having my first slice got the hooked that I could not stop. Its pretty wholesome, coming with fresh fruits and a pretty flavourful Matcha ice-cream that has a strong tea flavour that Matcha lovers will not get enough of. Coupled with that was a classic waffle batter that's eggy, buttery, fluffy and light made sweet with a squeeze of maple syrup. I find this not only one of the better items that they offer here, but also made the cut to be one of the better waffle to have in the north!
Here to try their waffles yet again. Their batter was brilliant with buttermilk flavours and being fluffy but fell short on crispness. D24 durian fibres are aplenty but frozen and served in blocks, while durian ice-cream was pretty standard. Addition of the fruits such as bananas, kiwi and strawberry is a good attempt to make it look healthy and adds variety, but seemed a tad out of point. Wished maple syrup was used instead of sweetened mango syrup.
served with a hint of yuzu, I stuffed the entire aburi salmon sushi into my mouth. So good.
Charcoal waffles with Hay and Honey ice cream drizzled with salted egg sauce. Yummy.
Today, I am happy because it's NATIONAL PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY DAY and such a day, it is impossible to be a grumps. If you know me, you'd know that peanut butter is one of five foods that I absolutely cannot resist.
I must admit rather guiltily that I forgot one of the ice cream flavours here. I know there's dark chocolate and peanut butter & jelly, but I cannot for the life of me recall what the third one is.
But anyway, I do think the waffles here are among the best in Singapore, and their ice creams are quite dope as well. Too bad it's so out of the way for me to travel to!
