Imagine having your duck rice or noodles but burger.. Same same but different #burpple #foodporn #instafood

The long weekend is almost here and it's time to knock back a pint or 7. And what better accompaniment than $1 buffalo wings! Yes, your eyes do not deceive you, from 5-7pm you get a trio of buffalo wings for only a dollar with every drink ordered. Whilst lacking in heat, the wings were tasty and I can't complain at that price.

Whenever I hear of Seng Kee, my immediate reaction would be either the bak chor mee at Serangoon Gardens or the herbal soup at Changi Road. Little did I know that there's actually a Seng Lee Black Chicken Herbal Soup near my place.

Fortunately for fellow foodie-in-crime, @rainraineeataway who brought me here, I wouldn't have known of its existence (shame on me). For just $4, you get a choice of either kidney/mixed organs/lean meat cooked in a flavour-packed bowl of hot black chicken soup with mee sua that's sure to satisfy your late night hunger pangs. The stall opens from 11am in the morning till 12am at night.

.
The salted egg yolk rave strikes again, this time invading the French croissant with its orange luscious substance.
.
Croissant was done right with its light and crispy exterior plus a hint of butter fragrance to complement the salted egg yolk sauce. But the sauce was slightly thick and hence hinders a little on the flowing effect.
.
Looking at the $7.50 price tag, I will think twice before laying my hands on a second helping.

Food is really great but the company's greater and I will definitely return. :)

Expect to see a rustic touch in the interior with a warm and cozy ambience as you feast on their famous burgers!

Smokey Beef Bacon Burger (SGD 14.80) - 175g worth of beef patty that was so tender and moist with smokey BBQ sauce and melted cheese drizzled on it. The toasted buttery sesame buns were firm and crispy and one of the better Halal cafes we had been to so far. The weakest link was the beef bacon which was different from our usual crispy bacon.

Location: 28 Aliwal Street, 0101 Aliwal Art Centre
Opening hours: 11am - 11pm (Mon-Sun)

We were very pleasantly surprised when we went to this Japanese restaurant at Kandahar St called Box n Sticks. The food was so affordable and value for money!

Pictured is the buta shogayaki (pork) don with onsen egg, chawanmushi, kakiage tempura, miso soup and iced lemon tea. All for $16.90! The marinated pork and rice were tasty while the chawanmushi was silky smooth.

They have even cheaper set lunches available. Even their dinner ala carte menu items are affordable too! You ought to check it out.

I was craving from stir-fry so I opted for the chicken pad thai from Thai Gold Food. This place looks as authentic as a Thai restaurant can get.

The dish itself is pretty average. The rice noodles were actually leaning more towards being gooey than firm. I love that there's an abundance of aromatic ingredients and spices as it really brings a sense of freshness to the dish. The restaurant allows you to add as much sugar, roasted peanuts and chili flakes to cater to your preferences.

WA Cafe recently opened its second outlet at Shaw House last week and having a peek in was pretty irresistible. With an open glass facade, hanging tungsten lights and a queue, it piqued our interest.

We had to try the famous Matcha & Ogura Honey Toast ($16.80++). Yes, we find it pretty pricey, best if you share the dessert. (Share the love, right?) The exterior of the toast was crisp yet the centre was soft and fluffy where you can taste the sweet infused honey. The matcha ice cream was spectacular and the ogura added a somber taste to all the sweetness. Overall, it was good but a tad too expensive for essentially ice cream and bread.

We'd also recommend their omu/curry rice dishes if you're hungry and their coffee/soft serves for tea.

The brunch menu is only available on weekends and public holidays from 11am - 3:30pm.

Open Door Policy offers many traditional brunch items but with a twist such as Eggs Benedict with green curry hollandaise sauce, truffle scrambled eggs with oysters and breakfast burgers.

Pictured is their roast wagyu rump ($30++) served with ratte potatoes, poached eggs, red onions, chilli bearnaise and a brioche bun. It was definitely a gastronomic adventure with every bite.
