Xie Kee is kinda a personal favourite because they are one of the few stalls at Bukit Timah Food Centre that remains open late at night after training.
I always found it interesting that the stall is 'structured' in such a way that you have an unobstructed view of the wok whilst waiting in line for your order.
It appears that the uncle's son has taken over the ladle but what remains unchanged is that you get a plate of noodles swimming in a moist gooey zhup. The stock used is certainly hearty and flavourful and they definitely aren't stingy with the sotong and prawns. Interestingly, they also use flat yellow noodles instead of round yellow noodles.
The market is due to shut and shift to a temporary location across the road. I am not sure if Xie Kee will continue operating so do check them out soon!

Not a fan of their sambal, a little too sweet for my liking.

This is the much vaunted Xie Kee Hokkien Mee in Bukit Timah Market and Food Center. The market is always crowded during lunch and with safety distancing, there are not many seats left for dine in. So I decided to packet home for lunch.
Big mistake. When it was being cooked and packed, I saw the noodles being slurpy and wet. By the time I got home, it was clumpy and the noodles all bloated.
I have to go back and try on the spot. And brave the rant of the owner about the pandemic and the havoc it has created for him.
They use flat yellow noodles instead of your typical yellow noodles and though it might be a small change, it makes all the world of a difference texture wise. Might be a bit bias when I say that this is my favourite Hokkien mee in Singapore but itβs really quite up there.
The flat yellow Noodles were rather hard, possibly because it's been left alone for a while. Lacks wok hei but the gravy was thick and flavourful. Chili had a sharp zesty aroma, but wasnt too strong or spicy. Not rlly worth a trip, i would advise only getting it when it's freshly cooked(since it's cooked in batches)
The only thing it might lack compared to the one at ABC Brickwerkz is the wok hei. Other than that, a wholesome plate of Hokkien mee with rich broth and flavourful noodles.
